We can add Supergirl to the list of DC movies that Warner Bros. is working on.
Deadline says that a Supergirl movie is in the works, with 22 Jump Street writer Oren Uziel working on the script. Not much else is known about the movie at this point, it's in very early development.
Melissa Benoist plays Supergirl on the TV show on The CW. Who do you think would make a good Supergirl for the movie? Let me know in the comments below.

I think this news pretty much puts the nail in another Superman movie coffin.
Rumors were that Cavill wanted more money, but WB wanted to move forward. Looks like they did, just do is it with Supergirl, they donât have to recast Superman and get a younger cheaper actress.
Makes sense they would want to really focus on female characters after the success of WW. I'm not not excited. At least its a Supes family character. But at certain point it's like...are they really just not interested in doing another superman movie?
They can't begin development on another Superman project until they know if they are moving forward with Cavill or rebooting. It's not a case of them just not wanting to do Superman.
I get what you're saying but If they're doing a Supergirl movie it'd be odd to not include Superman at all, so it seems like either way they'd have to make that decision beforehand
Well this movie is in the very early stages of development, so if they write in a Superman cameo or something, it can be scrapped in the final draft. Also Henry/WB would definitely have made a decision by then.

She's definitely due for an update! I was all about the '80s movie when I was a kid, but it hasn't aged well.
I've been all about the casting in all of the DC movies up to this point, so I'm sure they'll find someone great. Plus, the women in the DCEU have been proud of their roles, so I'm also sure the next Supergirl will be equally into the character.
WB need to stop hiring French directors. It was horrible and then they hired another frenchy for the Catwoman movie.

Nobody had heard about Iron-Man as well once upon a time. He can't move planets nor is he even remotely as powerful as Superman. And still, the third Iron-Man, which came out the same year as MoS, made over a billion, and MoS made Doctor Strange money. Um... lol?
This is actually retarded. The only movies we need right now (that aren't currently filming) are called The Batman, and Man of Steel 2. The rest should be secondary. Come on WB, literally everyone is asking for MoS 2 and you're giving us this shit? Why?

I believe the feeling at WB is that there's far more money to be made in opening up the characters that haven't been done in the movies and TV tons of times. Remember that the original slate didn't include The Batman or a second Superman solo film at all (unless you count BvS as MoS 2). The goal of the project is to open up more possibilities for the other characters.
But again, we barely know anything about one of our two main characters in this universe. Marvel did 3 Iron man movies early for that reason. Expanding the universe is fine. But if you're characters are flimsy because of a lack or proper representation that's not a solid foundation for other characters to build on.
I'm in no way speaking for anyone but me. I'm simply stating my opinion on what we as fans want. Wether you agree or not doesn't change that.

I think it can be very successful. Much more than Wonder Woman. Especially if they have a teenage Supergirl instead of a young adult. With hopefully the success of Shazam! we can get movies like Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle and Static Shock. Even a Firestorm movie would be great. WB can make a lot of money from the family audience with movies like these.
I always knew WB should do something different with Superman. It was either have a movie of Supergirl or Superboy. A movie with Jonathan Kent would be awesome too. Pretty much any of these would be nice to see because Superman can relate to them and be their mentor. I would of voted for Superboy because the budget can be lower if they base his powers from Young Justice.

Superman can be successful if you make a movie that is actually enjoyable. It's not that hard. They just keep hiring the wrong people.
First off I know they can make a successful Superman movie. I'm just being a realist here and that's why I believe they have to explore other options. If they want to continue Superman it's best to try something new. I know they made a movie of Supergirl in the 80s but that was long ago. There's a new generation that can grow up with a new Sueprgirl. With diversity being a big thing these days people would be excited to see another female lead superhero movie. The other option is Superboy which I believe can work if they keep the budget lower with his power set from YJ. They tried multiple times with Superman. It's time to try out the other heroes in his family.

Diversity is not gonna save a bad movie
They're hiring new directors and writers. The fact that it has diversity is a huge plus. Also if Supergirl is a teenage hero then it attracts the family audience. Diversity and family audience equals making money.
I'm just waiting on the Blue Beatle (Jaime Reyes) movie announcement. The Batman and GL Corps are in the works so I'm cool with whatever stuff they wanna make now

They're doing well with the audience they're aiming for (which may have only coincidental crossover with comics readers), so I doubt they're going anywhere. They're already developing a Batwoman series which I think will be their go-to when they decide it's time for Arrow to go.

No offense, but you're putting way too much stock into how much people actually care about Henry Cavill as Superman. He may be associated with the role, but if they put out a new Superman and the movie is actually good? Nobody is gonna care that it's someone else wearing the cape instead of Henry.

How exactly? We're living in an age where the popularity of a character doesn't matter in the cinema. If they make a Supergirl movie that actually looks good and has positive buzz, people will go see it.

Not really. Right now Henry is less Robert Downey Jr. and more Andrew Garfield. He has his fans but his movies have been panned. The attachment to him is not so great that a new actor couldn't take over the role in a more successful movie.
My pick for Supergirl would be Vanessa Kirby or Jodie Comer if they don't get the Birds Of Prey role. Also Saoirse Ronan would be a good choice for the role in my opinion.
I love Vanessa Kirby but she's aged out of '-girl' roles.
The future of DCEU is very much female. I'm down with that, I would love to see a World's Finest movie with Batgirl and Supergirl. DC has excellent female characters both heroes and villains, which MCU does not have. DC/WB seems like they are finally learning to capitalize, I mean it all has been right under their noses this whole time. I'm pretty excited about the future of the DCEU.

I'm all for more female characters in anything tbh. But that doesn't mean the males should be left in the dirt. The key is balance otherwise they'll end up in a place they do not want to be in.
Oh, I agree.....I think my comment was misinterpreted, I mean that the great female characters are going to differentiate this universe from the competition, and that is something not even MCU can compete, for the most part. Thus, I am glad that they are finally willing to take the chance, thanks to Wonder Woman of course, the only truly undivisive DCEU movie so far.
How about the future of DCEU being about quality? No more subpar tainted movies.

Very pleased to see Supergirl get a solo film in the DCEU; DCTV Kara Zor-El showed her stuff on TV so we should expect the same for the DCEU Kara as long as it's in good quality like WW. ^_^
So, SuperCavill must be part of this movie, since he is an integral part of the Supergirl story. He teaches him about the Earth and how to use his abilities. He shows her that her family has not left...

I really hope they don't go this route, as it really does take away from Superman as a character. I was fine with the prequel comic to MoS explaining the empty pod in the ship had been Kara.
I always assumed that they would use her to explain the race of Atlanteans. Kara arrived on earth millenia before Kal and fell in love with a human and their offspring birthed the race of Atlanteans. Not exactly comic accurate but it would explain how there is a superpowered race alive and native to earth.
Id prefer that than having Kara show up in modern day all of a sudden. I'd much rather they focus on Supes and get him right in his own major solo movie.

Funny enough your mistaken. I actually replied to another comment on this thread earlier and in it, i said "the Bat-family is the one exception i would make". As when it comes to them, they actually enhance Batman/Bruce as a character and his world. I find Supergirl takes away from Clark. I prefer him to be the sole surviving Kryptonian, having another surviving one, who also happens to be his relation, just doesnt appeal to me.

No, it's probably in response to the writer going to Hamada and asking, "can I take a crack at Supergirl?" A lot of these things are driven from the bottom up until they start costing money.

I am just so sick of Warners hypocrisy. So somehow we can have Flash, Superman, Supergirl and Black Canary on TV and in movies at the same time but Deathstroke has to be written out of Arrow and Batman can never show up in either Gotham or the planned Batwoman series ?
