Warner Bros. finally responds to the Snyder Cut, has no plans to release "any alternate versions" of 'Justice League'

The Wall Street Journal published their highly anticipated article about the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League today. As expected, they got an official comment from Warner Bros and some fans may not be happy with what they had to say.

Warner Bros. isn’t planning to mention a Snyder cut this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con or to release any alternate versions of Justice League, a senior executive confirmed to The Wall Street Journal.

Zack Snyder was also contacted, but declined to comment.

So there you have it. As Henry Cavill recently said in an interview, there's really no point from Warner Bros.' perspective to release a Snyder Cut of Justice League. Fans who had been hoping for it can now move on and look forward to what DC has in store for the future.

        He's right though with that reply, notice how Snyder never replies to comments what challenge his statements or choices, he will reply to people praising him though. Snyder outright lied about that bit in TDKR to justify a bit in BvS and when asked about that he never replies.         Even some Marvel actors have taken shots at DC, I don’t really care if DC folks fired back. And none of the shots were malicious or really noteworthy except for RDJ’s comment.
        Even before Snyder talked about TDKR, I saw people make similar conclusions about the mutant kid, so again I don’t care.
        And the “flavor of the week” is kinda true. It’s already been two weeks since the new Ant-Man movie and there hasn’t been a lot of buzz about it. IW’s buzz seems to have lasted shorter CW’s.

        Well box office actually matters, films don't cross 2 billion with little buzz and in fact its only with a ton of buzz that a film could do that. Of course i'm assuming here you're basing this "little buzz" on Reddit groups you go on, your real life friend base and the odd YT video (what i could easily counter by the fact i've seen a ton of YT videos talking about it) because you usually love to use these things to try and prove a point. I have two jobs what involves people watching or buying films and yeah there has been a lot of buzz and hype, IW opening is the biggest opening my cinema has had since The Force Awakens for instance, the shop i work also has every single tons of people asking when IW is out to buy.

        Well considering that I cared about what happened in One More Day, cares about Spidey dying in Marvel’s Ultimate series,
        This is despite that even on the DC Reddit, the guys there were talking about this film and how good/bad it was to them. But you wouldn’t care anyway since “those guys only care about DC films”.
        And no, I’m not basing this off of Reddit or videos. Just a natural feeling. It just feels like the buzz didn’t last as long as Civil War. Civil War felt like it was talked about for months. When my dad asked if I wanted to see IW with him and my brother, my first thought was “Oh yeah, it’s still in theaters, right?”.

        You forgot to mention IW ran into the unexpectedly extended run of Black Panther, which was still making an insane amount of time in theaters leading up to IW. Also having DP2 release within 2 weeks after, and then Solo a bit after that... Don't act like people just stopped watching IW like they stopped watching JL, just because.

        I don't know if I want to see more of older Batman, specially after seeing its characterization. Older Batman wasn't ideal choice for a shared universe IMO. I would rather prefer other 2 scenarios, but it would be little confusing to casual moviegoers. I can see why Reeves is taking so much time.

        I agree with that too. I think that's what snyder story was about, a bitter, broken, and angry Batman grounded in our current reality, a divided society in which a significant number of police officers have changed from serve and protect to be afraid and shoot, in our reality heroes kill innocent without regard, it's unrealistic to expect a story of a broken bitter vigilante to stick to old fashioned rules. I enjoyed the take but I agree is not for everyone.

        Its never felt right with me when people say the Nolan films are "dark", sure there's some "dark" stuff but i would say its more realistic and serious then just dark. Nolan though did inject a fair amount of light into the film, Alfred had some great funny lines along with Lucius, Batman has the odd line or two what makes you smile and Bale was great at that playboy persona what again gets laughs, i mean the line "a guy who dresses up like a Bat clearly has issues" is bloody brilliant.

        I agree. I never thought TDK trilogy was too dark, or consistently dark throughout, especially Batman Begins. It had its share of its fair light moments. And, it worked wonder with the overall tone and feel. It was more grounded, realistic, and serious than just dark. TDK was darker, the death of main female protagonist in middle of film was a dark, and surprising twist, which basically set the tone for, and led to the 3rd act.
        Snyder just wanted to prove a point, and went overboard. If he had actually read a few Batman comics, post 1939 ones, then he would have known.

      Marvel films largely ARE flavor of the week. It’s widely known that they tend to be formulaic action comedies often times.

        I would like to know how you would describe both the Batmobile chase scene with him /pulverizing/ a car filled with four people in it into an unrecognizable mess of metal and flames 'indirect'. I would also like to know how you would describe the sequence prior to the warehouse scene, where upon he lines up four trucks and guns them all down with anti-material rounds. Anti-Material rounds are designed to detonate at the point of impact. I watched a documentary where they created a jelly-like substance to mimic the density of human flesh and what would happen if a person was struck with a round like that.
        They exploded.
        And please do so without relating to another film. That's often what Snyder (and his cult) does. When someone brings up a valid criticism, they respond with "oh but in THIS film he did THIS".
        And yes, much of the MCU is flavor of the week. But there are standout films. The Winter Soldier, Black Panther and Infinity War, to name a few. I want the DCEU to succeed, because DC characters /deserve/ to have quality films. Unfortunately, in the hands of someone as arrogant and self-righteous as Snyder, it cannot.

        It damaged the car severely, there’s no confirmation they’re dead; this is a comic book movie after all, so that’s typically the rule to go by - no one is dead until confirmed. Heck, even in Arkham Knight, you blow up cars all the time, and everyone is fine. Regardless, he’s stoppig the vehicles in the ways he can think of (while deluded with violent rage), and I concede that he is being reckless and clearly does not care too much what might or might not happen to them, but I do not believe his active, deliberate, direct goal is their deaths. He is just shooting the car, and it happened to blow up.
        As for outside the warehouse, there was a vehicle with one guy outside it, trying to shoot down Batman’s plane with a turret, if I recall correctly. Batman is in a hurry to save Martha and needs to stop him or he’ll damage the Batwing, so he does what he has to, raining down a bunch of warning fire for a good, long stretch as he approaches the vehicle the guy is outside of, giving him plenty of time to run off. Instead, the guy stupidly continues to shoot and stays put. Eventually, the Batwing’s fire naturally lands onto the vehicle. He shoots the vehicle, not the man. And it ends up blowing up, and thus badly wounding or killing the man nearby it.
        Your request not to bring up other movies is ridiculous. Building off of precedent is a totally valid thing to do, and that’s what Snyder did, so allow me to explain something while calling back to Nolan’s Batman for a sec.
        Christopher Nolan’s Batman blew up dojos, flipped police cars with explosive devices, “didn’t save” Ra’s al Ghul, pushed Two-Face off a building to his death, and fatally crashed Talia in her truck. But he is not counted guilty for any of those deaths. Some are explained away, and the rest are indirect or unintentional.
        Now take that mindset, and progress it to the point that the Batman in BvS is - broken, hardened, jaded, more violent - and you get something like what happened in BvS: a more reckless and brutal Batman who lets these sort of deaths happen around him more often, but doesn’t really care too much.
        Zack Snyder confirmed that his intent was that Batman only kill indirectly/unintentionally like Nolan’s Batman did, so it must be interpreted through that lens. It only seems more frequent/overt because this Batman is in a bad state. If one light punch would do, he’s going to punch twice and hard.
        He never shoots people, he shoots a car. If it happens that they end up getting hurt or possibly killed in that process, that’s not his problem - that’s the way he’s thinking, more or less.
        As for the Joker thing, I honestly can’t even remember the conversation you’re referring to. I totally understand business - same here. I’ll get back to it if I can find it again (I never look at my notifications if I can avoid it, or else I’ll get sidetracked for years :P).

Is this the hyped up article from a few weeks ago? Bit of a disappointment really.
Not really learned a great deal plus I think it’s obvious a rough cut exists, he screened it to WB and they deemed it “unwatchable”

  With all that in mind how could you deem a cut that’s unwatchable due to no score visual effects etc as unwatchable if that makes any sense? Surely it would have been in a more finished state to show the executives at WB.
  Anyway all of this could make a pretty good documentary in a few years time.

    Yeah, what WB wanted (which changed halfway trough because they dont have the balls to stick to their artistic vision) was a "light and fun" brainless action superhero movie with lots of humorous moments but forgettable and generic overall, the mcu formula, so they kicked Snyder after making a personal deconstruction of Batman and Superman in his two movies, and hired whedon (who lets not forget, made the terrible Ultron movie) to do a rushed job of "fixing" the movie they already had.

    As I understand, Nolan and WB wanted a director to do with Superman what he did with Batman, Snyder as we know now he pitched a 5 part deconstructive story that incinciuded JL. Now in my opinion, WB took it (probably out of greed thinking they can get in the superhero market) and Nolan was around. So I don't see how Snyder screwed up, we all knew what he'll mak, he insisted that things will get lighter as it moves forward. I put the blame on WB's greed. In food terms WB wanted sushi, got a sushi chef, let him get the ingredients,the kitchen, and when they got served, they were we don't like fish can you make a burger with what you have? And we got a fish-less sushi burger, aka JL. I hope WB choke in their bonus.

      Snyder didn't want to do JL; JL was just something being kicked around when he started MoS (just like it had been for years). Just like Nolan with Batman, he wanted to do a "grounded" series focused exclusively on Superman; that's all he cared about. Then Avengers happened and they decided they wanted a shared universe too.

        The source is a Warner Bros. executive! It's right there in the article. They also reached out to Zack Snyder, but he declined to comment.
        There's no official statement because such a small percentage of fans care about the Snyder Cut. It's not worth their time to talk about it.         While I didn't think it was going to be released- I do know we'd all have to agree that if they planned to announce the release at SDCC- (and they're NOT)- they WOULD NOT spoil the announcement in a newspaper article. Not even one in the WSJ. And yes, I think a "no comment" would lead to "spoiling" things. Still, I don't think we'll ever see it.

  Well, you know how studios and employees can be with PR. Things stay as hush-hush as possible until they happen, which can involve lying to news outlets.
  Remember just recently when Joaquin Phoenix pretended he didn't know anything about the Joker film, and now suddenly he's starring in it and it'll be out next October? ;p
  I'm not saying I believe they're lying necessarily, but I am saying that this won't be a definitive answer for Snyder Cut fans. They won't move on because of this.

      Yeah, I mean, I want everyone to get along and have a good time, but it seems like people are determined to be outraged and bite at each other right now. So disappointed. :/
      It's also frustrating that they basically have to put this big leash on their creatives that restricts their storytelling to a plastic product model because fans are only mature enough to tolerate one flavor of superhero portrayal.
      Some of the greatest comics broke the mold and put an edgy spin on things, and we used to celebrate that kind of creativity and inventiveness, and the concept of taking these things more seriously and exploring them in a deeper way.
      Now if you do that, the citizens cry for a crucifixion.

        By all means, had the DCEU been more mature and less fun, dealing with issues that would affect people in the real world, showing the stakes of the battles with these gods among men...all would have been fine.
        It's that shitty choices were made, radical departures from character were made(such as Batman murdering and drinking and being a shitty detective, Superman not caring about collateral damage, Lex Luthor being a damn embarrassment) and the movies lacked character development and suffered plotwise.
        The problem wasn't with tone, and it is disingenuous to say that is the reason people have issues with Snyder movies.

        I'm not saying it's the only reason, and it may not be your reason, but it is still a common complaint. Not attempting to misrepresent anyone, just calling out an absurdity I've observed.

        From what I've seen the tone complaint was only directed at Superman, not the movies or world as a whole. Which is reasonable...Superman shouldn't be mopey for his first 4.5 hours of screentime.
        I didn't mind the nolanesque tone they were going for in BvS, and I really don't think most would....it was almost everything else that mattered.
        That's my perception anyway.

One last thing about JL from me. I just recently re-watched the movie since its theater run.
So much bad to that film but the first 3 sequences (Batman on rooftop, Bruce recruiting Arthur, WW fighting idiot capers) Whedon-Whedon-Snyder
All three were so awful it didnt matter what came next, the film was already done. That movie gets worse the more you see it. Im glad its over with now.

      That's a fair point with the 'dark ages' line. I figure that's something Zack had padded out more and tied into the plot with the Mother Boxes somehow, like they're religious fanatics on a mission involving Steppenwolf, but the point of it got dumped to the cutting room floor and now without further context it just sounds like random jibberish.
      Too 'grimdark', I'm sure. Unfortunate if my guess is accurate. :/
      The music is actually really goofy and out of place. Elfman totally dropped the ball - but I guess that's what happens when it wasn't passed to him in the first place. ;p

        Why they had to change the score is mind bending.
        Its the whole old comic book caper-style with the museum scene that made me roll my eyes. Im sure Terio would not have written anything like that without context but now we will never know.

        I was actually pretty excited at first when Whedon and Elfman were brought on. I'm a big Elfman fan in general (and continue to be despite my issues with his JL work), and I grew up with Buffy and Angel, and I liked Avengers a lot, so I was keen to see the two of them handle these heroes.
        I knew they were gonna change the tone Zack was going for, and while sad, I was also open to that maybe being good in a different way... I just didn't know they were gonna pull the rug out from under the entire movie and make me feel embarrassed for bringing my friends. ;p

      I own plenty of movies that have bonus discs loaded with cut scenes and storyboards. Don't see the big deal.
      I also know there are plenty of old school Doctor Who fans who enjoy the restoration attempts the BBC has made on lost episodes. They'll happily watch something like still photos or a collection of storyboards from the production while the audio plays. You could call that half-baked too, but it's something they passionately want, and there was nothing wrong with them getting it.

This is the right decision.
1. There is next to 0 chance this cut is better. We can use Mos and BvS as a basis for predicting the quality of a 'snyder cut', and it doesn't bode well.
2. Releasing the cut, if it is in-fact bad, would hurt the DC brand at a time when it is fragile and possibly turning around and redeeming itself.
Leave the cut buried, and don't ever let that goon near a DC movie again.

        It isn't in character for Superman to kill as a first resort.

        Look i'm not keen on the idea of Superman neck snapping Zod but really what else could he do? There was no Phantom Zone to contain him, Green K has yet to be discovered and no prison could hold him. Zod said he will kill everyone on the planet and he meant that, he isn't Doomsday so luring him from the city wouldn't work as Zod would know what Supes is trying to do, you also got to remember Zod is a better fighter then Supes and was learning to use his powers at a faster rate so at some point Zod would have killed Supes. Tell me other then killing Zod what else could Supes do to stop him and make sure he couldn't end the planet?
        The bigger fault here is more Snyder put him in that position in the first place however it could have been a really interesting thing to explore in BvS and how Clark deals with the fact he's killed and how he never wants to do that again, sadly Snyder never actually touched on Zod's death and how Clark coped with that and how it could have changed him.

        I agree it was stupid to put him in that position in the first place, but it is still a failure of characters within that position.
        Like, for fucks sake, they established the kryptonian atmosphere make him weaker, he could have flown him up to the world killers and weakened them both, they are numerous possibilities for how he could have handled it differently.

        I was expecting this to finally be touched on after Superman was resurrected, maybe in JL, or maybe in MoS2, but Zack's plan (whatever it may have been) got kicked out the window, so we'll never know if they were gonna follow up.
        I love that Henry wants to explore that. :)

        Why would he wait until JL? Addressing it in BvS would have made far more sense. If he didn't do it in BvS, I doubt he ever planned to address it.

        I agree BvS would have been the prime opportunity, but honestly the movie was already very crowded and long, and Superman had his hands pretty full with other problems. Maybe it was too many threads.
        One solution might have been Superman finding out from a braggadocious comment from Lex that the Doomsday clone was made from Zod, so maybe Superman tries to talk to Doomsday, and that leads to an expression of remorse, et cetera.
        Might not have worked though, because he (understandably) did actually have to kill Doomsday, so he'd be immediately breaking that oath after making it. lol

        If you had paid attention, you'd have remembered that Ironman was actually directing the Leviathan toward the evacuated areas, away from the exit routes, and into the one guy who could take them on, the Hulk. People still died... but not for lack of trying. I may be wrong, but I don't remember a scene in MoS where Superman tried to help people evacuate, or get them to safety. In the Battle of NY, it was a constant theme. Even when trying to contain an otherworldly menace, the movie always reminded you of who they were fighting for:

Walter Hamada and Chantal Nong bear no responsibility for last year’s craziness, to me the best way to cut your ties to the past is transparency, helping the fans understand how that happened, and in so doing show that you know that was a tragic mess.
I assume this will be an upcoming article at Batman News: the terms for subscribing to DC Universe have been announced. Seventy five dollars for a new channel is a significant ask. You’d like to have more than a few cartoon shows, it’d be nice to give the fans something no fans have ever been given before.
Things change fast in executive suites. Remember Gotham City Sirens and Geoff Johns’ Flashpoint? Let’s see how the rollout of DC Universe goes.

  To me, perhaps Joss’ most basic mistake was this: in calculating the optimum amount of Justice League to reshoot, he failed to take into account what a crappy director he is. Even if you accept that Joss’ comedy was funny, which most people don’t, you have to remember that comedy struggles to survive translation, so in non-English-speaking countries image quality was going to be far more important than words. And even if you speak English, it’s a visual medium. So you have to feel that you have Zack Snyder’s pages beat by a mile to reshoot them, since Zack Snyder’s undeniable visual gifts are going to make your shots look like amateur-hour garbage.

    Literally the only namecalling is the word fratboy, and I don't think it is insulting so much as it is a commentary on his aesthetics and design decisions (hurrrr let's focus on fighting and nothing else!).
    Calling him selfish and ignorant is not meant as namecalling, but, well, statements of fact. I find the decisions he made to be selfish and ignorant.
