'Birds of Prey' to feature Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, Renee Montoya, and a Batman villain

Margot Robbie has been talking about her Harley Quinn "girl gang movie" for a while, and now we know which DC characters will be part of that gang.

According to The Wrap, Margot Robbie's Birds of Prey will feature Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and detective Renee Montoya. As for the movie's villain? It will be a Batman villain that hasn't been in a movie before, but The Wrap didn't have a specific name.

Noticeably absent is Barbra Gordon, aka Batgirl, who has played a big role in the "Birds of Prey" comics and was reportedly in all versions of the movie script.

Robbie hopes that Birds of Prey will begin shooting in January, so expect casting for all of these roles to come very soon. What do you make of this news? Who do you hope the Batman villain ends up being? Let me know in the comments below!

okay NOW we are talking. So Batgirl (Cassandra) IS in the movie after all. Huntress and Canary there is what REALLY sells me on this as a legit BoP movie.
Now have Barbara as Oracle and we`re golden.
As for the villain - I hope it's Black Mask. Could be Mad Hatter too. Though I would not be too thrilled about the latter

  I'm not willing to go all in on Cassie being Batgirl in this, but I love Huntress and Black Canary being in this! And I always liked Renee Montoya. Still, that's more heroes than villains, although Cassandra Cain IS a bit more in the gray than most DC heroes.

    I mean, if we want to be technical, Bette Kane should be the first Batgirl.
    But there's also rumors that Barbara will be in this movie as Oracle and the previous Batgirl, while Cassandra will take over the role of the new Batgirl. It makes sense with the world the DCEU is building, with Batman being much older and already a lot happened in his life (a dead Robin, Nightwing around etc.). It could also allow for a new Robin to appear, like Tim Drake or Damian Wayne.

  If I remember correctly, Black Mask was rumored to be the villain in Sirens - maybe they changed the focus to Birds of Prey whilst keeping some of the story elements that were meant to happen in Sirens?
  If it is Black Mask, i hope it's REALLY Black Mask (Sionis). With a mask being involved, the writers might want to include a "identity twist"... as it has been done before.

It will be interesting to see if Arrow has to remove Black Canary from the TV show now, with the character appearing in the films. I really hope not. Green Arrow without Black Canary just does not feel right.

        And obviously I was talking about the Black Canary mantle.
        And since Sara is White Canary now and Laurel is dead, there is only one Black Canary currently on the show anyway.

    i think when people say "first female superhero movie" they mean it was the first really big successful blockbuster female superhero movie and with a female director as well. The landscape for this genre is obviously completely different now than it used to be. Ya stuff like Elektra and Catwoman and Supergirl happened, but they all supposedly sucked and didn't do well. Now CBMs are some of the biggest franchises out there. A franchise like the MCU would be expected to have a female lead film in its arsenal but its taken them over 10 years since the franchises inception to actually do one. Do you see the problem some people have with this and why DC is praised for doing it before them?

If Babs isn’t in this movie at all and they’re trying to set it up as Harley and Black Canary that start the birds of prey, that’s kinda fucked up in my opinion. Not only is Harley the girlfriend of the man that crippled her, but she’s known to have been apart in the murder of Robin. I don’t like how notable allies of Bruce would team up with her by choice, I wanted Harley to be the wild card that Babs and the others had to recruit in order to gain some info about Gotham’s underworld

  In the "Batman: No Man's Land" CB arc, she's a strong asian girl who doesn't/not able to talk, she's the daughter of a mercenary called David Cain, in this arc she becomes Batgirl. In other incarnations, she's "Orphan" (Orphan is not Batgirl).

Interesting line-up. Batman villain who hasn't been in a movie before? So, not the rumoured Penguin (Birds of Prey, would've been perfect). Black Mask is a good guess, but surely it'd be a female villain? Not Poison Ivy, which would've been perfect (she goes good by the end!).

I'm sorry this is just so fucking stupid. Harley is not part of the Birds of Prey. She's a siren. This was supposed to be a Harley/Poison Ivy/Catwoman movie. I am done with DC trying to make Harley the hero.
