'Gotham' producer says a time jump is "possible" for Season 5

Gotham is coming back for a fifth and final season this fall, and there have been a lot of fan theories as to what may happen. A popular theory is that there will be a "time jump", and we'll fast forward in time a bit as Gotham wraps up its story. In a new interview with ComicBook, Gotham executive producer John Stephens didn't rule that out.

"I would say that's possible," Stephens said. "I would say that's not a crazy theory," he added, with a laugh.

Gotham producers have always envisioned Bruce Wayne becoming Batman in the very last episode of the series. David Mazouz, who plays Bruce Wayne, is 17 years old and his character on the show is around the same age. A theory I've seen online is that they'll jump ahead and showcase an older Bruce Wayne finally suiting up as Batman.

While I don't like the idea of a teenage Batman, I hope that's not the case. Mazouz has done a great job as a young Bruce Wayne, and to see someone else get to become Batman would be a slap in the face to him.

David has been growing pretty fast as the seasons roll on. It's possible that since it's not due out until 2019 that another 6 months (almost a year since his last shooting) that he might mature enough to pull it off. Especially if he hit the gym and the protein shakes pretty hard.

David Mazouz can clearly dress up as Batman. Right now, according to Wikipedia he stands a 5'8". That's an inch taller than Michael Keaton.

YES. Exactly what I want to hear. Let's do this.

Mazouz is 17, not sure his age in the show but... we can jump a good 8-10 years, say he traveled all around the world learning various skills and bring him back fresh into Gotham like Batman: Year One. It's been a fun show when you accept the fact that they're letting go of the rules but I want this season capped right.

By all counts, it sounds like it will be the best yet and understandably so with Bruce becoming Batman, but a time jump definitely goes toward the necessary training and development that Bruce clearly needs. Mazouz in a Batsuit would be a laughing matter. We can't do that to him, us, or the show.

We need new actors for our young ones. Not just Bruce but Selina as well.

he's going to turn 18 next year by the time it starts shooting again so it won't be "teenage" batman. it'll be adult batman technically.

The number is 18, it's spelled eighteen. Do you not see the word teen? An 18 year old is still a teenager, in fact, a 19 year old is too... lol

Yeah they're in a weird spot. Even moreso than Smallville, because Tom Welling was a grown man, during most of the show's run. He was an actor asked to play a younger character. I think what they'll do on Gotham, is basically make Bruce "teen Batman". No cape or cowl, but hopefully a better looking mask than his first one. And they'll likely have David Mazouz train really hard to get a little bigger, in the next few months.

They need to have him leave to travel and get his training. They either bulk and age him up for his return, if he can pull it off or they slot in an older actor. Go with what works best and end the show on a high.

I don't want them to do a time jump. This version of the story isn't one where he swore to fight crime as a kid and then trained for it; it's one where he has been searching for his purpose since the murder and got a push from Ra's al Ghul, and now they've thrown him into No Man's Land. Just let David bulk up, and give us the storyline they already set up.

Is anyone else uneasy about the amount of comments that say David needs to "bulk up"?

Guys, he's 17, and if I'm not mistaken, he's playing Bruce Wayne of similar age. What would he be bulking up for?

Let me preface my next statement by saying that; I haven't yet seen this latest season and I dont know if the idea has changed. But we really need to purge from our minds that we're going to see David be Batman by the end of this show, the showrunners explicitly said we wont see Batman and we probably dont have to. If the show ends with him training with the League of Assassins, for instance, then they would've done well.

I'm glad someone's saying this. I'm so uncomfortable reading comments about David's physique, because, a) he is indeed playing a teenager (and actually *is* a teenager), and b) that's just the way he is, FFS. He's just a kid! And I keep seeing people sending him comments on Twitter, telling him he *needs* to bulk up, or that he should be recast because of this. How would you feel if you were in his shoes? Isn't this some kind of body shaming?

Smallville had 10 seasons. If Gotham was allowed to last that long, David Mazouz would be old enough to actually don the cape himself.
