Zack Snyder shares new photo of Knightmare Batman from 'Batman v Superman'

Zack Snyder shared a new Batman v Superman set photo this afternoon on Vero. It's a new look at Batman from his "Knightmare" scene. Ben Affleck's stuntman Richard Cetrone is in the Batsuit, and Snyder shared some nice words about him.

"On lookout at Manor base... also much love to Richard Cetrone for his work on all my live action movies," Snyder captioned the photo.

In addition to working on all of Snyder's movies, Cetrone has worked with Affleck a lot too. Cetrone has been Affleck's stuntman in five movies, including Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, Justice League, The Accountant, and Affleck's upcoming Netflix movie, Triple Frontier.

  none of those were standalone films and one was just a tiny cameo and another one was not the dark scary hardcore batman from BvS that many of us wanted. Honestly, in general, batman in the context of the Justice League just isn't as exciting as Batman in his own world. Thats how i feel at least

      one can hope. Though the DC slate has been getting so packed, its really hard to say honestly. The Harley movie will apparently be shooting next year which would indicate a 2020 release. Then they said Suicide Squad 2 might shoot right after which could also potentially mean 2020. Then you have the flash movie getting ready to probably shoot next year. The rock said Black Adam might shoot next year too. There was that rumor that WB wants a Superman movie for 2020. A lot of stuff....no idea when some of this stuff is really going to come out

      I'm a huge DC fan, and I was a big fan of the DCEU (even though I guess we're not supposed to call it that) but not many if any of these upcoming films gets me hot and bothered. I'm looking forward to Aquaman, Shazam, and WW II, but everything else I've heard about not so much, I mean how can a shared DC universe be this many films in before Batman gets a solo film? You literally wouldn't think it would be possible, especially since they're struggling and Batman is Batman!!!! New God's could be cool with the right director, however I don't feel like the project had the right director. Ironically I think if he hasn't worked on DC previously except for watchmen Zack Snyder would have been a terrific candidate for New God's, I mean I still think he would be it just won't happen, so Peter Jackson would be my other choice.

      well I think DC is going back to the "Standalone movies" method honestly. It might technically be connected, but when watching a lot of the films, they will just be completely their own thing. I dont mind this approach personally. I think they need to move away from the cinematic universe structure and just started making cool movies and not worry about all this inter-connectivity and the order that certain films come in. Then, maybe down the line when they feel they feel the brand is in a better place and they feel they have all the characters they want, do another justice league

Despite how bad the scene is storytelling wise i do admit visually its one of the best scenes of the film and i do love the look Batman has in this scene, as for this picture yeah its pretty awesome and he looks amazing in the suit maybe better then what even Affleck did.

If it weren’t for the Parademons, Omega symbol, Superman quote, and Flash moment - which all make it unlikely it is just a dream - it would be a great scene. It stinks we couldn’t get the resolution to that stuff in JL like was originally planned :/

  If they removed the JL set up stuff and Flash it could off been a great scene like Jack said in his reply to me of Bruce's fear and PTSD of Superman going bad and ruling the world but as it is the scene doesn't work in BvS because it doesn't go anywhere and works even less now that we will never see or know the pay off it meant to had in JL.
  Problem with scenes like this in these films is they are only there to set up a future film and don't do anything to the actual film its in, if you were to remove this scene in BvS it wouldn't impact the film one bit except making it better, Bruce was already heavily against Supes and plotting to murder him so you can't say this scene led into that. From a storytelling view its a awful scene because it does nothing and only confuses the audience especially when its never mentioned or brought up again in the film. Now this isn't just on Snyder or WB, Marvel have problems with this as well especially with Age Of Ultron with Thor's subplot whats their purely to set up stuff for IW and overall drags the film down and just confuses the viewers, hopefully this type of thing goes away as it only harms the films their in.

    This scene didn't help BvS' story, but:
    1. It was a pre-installment for JL, when Cyborg see through the Mother Box during the Steppenwolf fight and Darkseid make his first appearance #untilitwasnt
    2. It helped the audience to see more clearly the reason why Batman is afraid of Superman. It's like Batman telling to Alfred about the kryptonite spear when he's in the Batplane, we are not stupid, but it helps the audience.
    3. A way to introduce Flash (even if it feels forced like the Flash/Cyborg/Aquaman footage scene).

    right. i wouldnt be inherently against this scene if it was meant to set up future films because they continue that ptsd element that we saw previously in the nightmares bruce has. but when you add the parademons and supermans "you took her from me" and flash's "save us bruce" it becomes a jumbled beautiful mess of a scene that kills the pacing of the movie. thought at least it wasnt as bad as the JL videos. good lord what a terrible editing decision.

    This entire scene should've never gone further than the drawing board. It is inherently pointless and narratively stupid in every way that matters. It's only there because it looks cool - and it does - and that's the only excuse Snyder needs, even if it ends up being detrimental to the overall quality of the film

    Yep, totally agreed. I’ve always felt the Knightmare Scene was good apart from those future elements, but with them is just too confusing and irrelevant for the rest of the plot of BvS. It’s one of the movie’s genuine flaws. But at least it would’ve potentially been more redeemable if we would’ve gotten the conclusion to it. Now that we can’t its just plain irritating.

      I disagree. just because a scene isn’t explained doesn’t mean it’s pointless. In 2001 a space odyssey, the entire intro is never explained. the black box that seemingly leads to a higher evolution. We don’t know how it got there or who it’s from. the narrative skips from prehistoric man to space travel. A scene like that and the knight mare scene is intended to throw you the viewer off your base and leave you with more questions. It’s something that Ridley Scott does with the Alien franchise JJ Abrahms did with the force awakens.

      But it was completely irrelevant to the rest of the movie, so I can't really fault people for criticizing that. Still not nearly enough to make it a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination, and I still love it, but that doesn't mean it's without flaw.

      It’s not irrelevant in the slightest. it plays off Bruce’s own fears of a Superman gone rogue which then influences his actions after. Yes it’s overall purpose is to plant the seeds in future films but to say that it does *nothing* for the story is inherently false.

    The thing is though is that the Knightmare scene is brought up later on, vaguely though. It's part of the reason why Bruce says to Diana "Just a feeling" when she asks why he wants to find the other League members. Yeah Lex had told Bruce that "He" is coming, but the Knightmare scene does still play a part in Bruce's recruitment decision.
    And at least JL was gonna explain the scene more. Thor's water visions weren't addressed until four or so films later after AoU. By that point, barely anyone remembered the visions.

      Not that i'm defending Thor's visions because i hated that part of the film for the same reasons i don't like the Knightmare scene but his visions are addressed in AoU, it gives Thor the info what he needs to awaken Vision and at the end he goes off in search of the Infinity Stones because of that vision. The Knightmare is never addressed in BvS, the "just a feeling" line is you reaching as like you said he just had Lex drop some info so its clearly based on that, fact is though storytelling wise the Knightmare scene is bad and does nothing for the film, any half decent film writer or director would say the same thing as me.

Frank Miller talked about how much hate he got from OTHER Batman writers, when The Dark Knight Returns came out. Miller's attitude was that he wasn't afraid to stretch Batman a little bit, and try to give fans something that they DIDN'T know they wanted. That approach won't always be universally beloved, or even well executed. But Snyderbots (whoever came up with that name, "I WILL FIND HIM"!) appreciated Snyder for that ballsy ambition.

damn, how I would've liked to see continuation of this scene with the Hall destroyed and Darkseid looking at his work. Pity we were left without a proper conclusion.

Also, Snyder has said Flash went back to the past from the future Batcave using the cosmic treadmill and hinted that, because he was "too soon", there was another attempt.

I know people still say there was no plan and such, but I'd argue that there was indeed a plan, only that WB didn't have enough patience at playing catch-up. Had it been otherwise, I'm sure people would have seen this differently with the proper pay-out

Marvel's consistent success, definitely played a factor. But it was less about WB trying to play catch-up, and more about worrying that moviegoers wouldn't support Zack Snyder's full vision, after the BvS backlash. The only way WB can really compete with the MCU, is by having complete confidence in the DC movies that they greenlight. No confidence, or false confidence, usually ends up being revealed, and hurting the movie.

  bvs backlash occurred because of a lotta things but i am curious how general audiences wouldve responded to the ultimate cut. i admitedly still disliked it bc they butchered my favorite comic death of superman but i cant deny its a better movie. would that have made it more enjoyable for regular moviegoers who spread bad word of mouth for bvs's second week?

I discovered this myself while analyzing the scene not long ago. I always assumed he was just somewhere on the edge of Gotham, and the big desert was actually the bay between Gotham and Metropolis dried up, but actually, if you look closely at one point, they showed a ruined Wayne Manor behind Bruce, so this must actually be the water between Wayne Manor and the Gotham City mainland.

Snyder actually indicated in some Vero comments that the door he's coming out of is the Batcave. When questioned if it's smart for him to hang out in the Batcave when Superman is out to get him, he said Batman knows this, but needs to be there so that Flash can run on the cosmic treadmill and talk to Bruce in the past at that same exact location... This part is something I did not connect at all... That Flash had to be exactly the same spot in the future to talk to Bruce in the past when he warned him.

This guy looks even better than Affleck as Batman. He’s got a stronger face than Affleck. Always found Affleck’s stuntman looked perfect as Batman in the costume.

Out of the costume, the guy does not resemble Bruce Wayne at all if I recall correctly.

Imagine his MOS was the CBM equivalent of Batman Begins and his BvS the CBM equivalent of TDK in terms of how they were received. The world would have waited with anticipation for the next thing Snyder was going to give us. How things turned out isn't on the fans and it never was.

      a CB cannot be 100% translated to a movie, so even if the CB is perfect it means nothing.
      Example of financial success:
      Thor: Ragnarok, it's a comedy movie inspired by Planet Hulk, you see an arena where Thor and Hulk fight but that's all, it's not Planet Hulk. The competition's movies work because todays standard requires to produce comedy movies that doesn't fit DC's Trinity behaviour.
      Exemple of underated movies:
      Watchmen, you can feel every drawings directly taken from the CB, translated to reality, Nolan's successful Dark Knight doesn't even deserve the "Dark" keyword when you watch Watchmen.
      You're showing us Wonder Woman's success, but Wonder Woman is not a reboot like Superman's movies (or Batman in BvS). Hulk and Spider-Man have been rebooted several times, and because of that they are now assisting the other characters who have earned people's heart (like Spider-Man with Iron Man), MCU's Trinity are not reboot characters and they are allowed to be funny. That's why sometimes I think Shazam! (based on a character that I don't really care) can possibly be more successful than the great James Wan's Aquaman.

  If the UC had been released in theaters and been critically acclaimed by critics who appreciated it as a reexamination of these 75 year old characters, it still would have been rejected by fans and the GA who really just wanted a new MCU with different characters. WB was trying from the start to do something different, as one comment I saw said "superhero movies for grownups," but they didn't realize that the other guys had already turned a big chunk of the audience into Marvel Zombies.

    What a silly comment. Fans will embrace non-MCU type CBM's if they are good... Deadpool 1/2, Logan, Xmen DofP, etc.... just fucking stop spouting bullshit. Fans didn't embrace BvS because it sucked, and the GA failed to connect with the main characters. No one gave a shit that Superman died... The UC wouldn't have changed that. Chris, I think you should stop posting articles about what Snyder posts. Especially since BvS came out three years ago. As a DCU fan, we all need to move on from this era.
