Live-action 'Doom Patrol' series coming to DC Universe from Greg Berlanti and Geoff Johns

Earlier this month, Warner Bros. announced Titans, Young Justice: Outsiders (animated), Harley Quinn (animated), and Swamp Thing for DC Universe, their upcoming streaming service. Today, the company announced another show.

A live-action Doom Patrol series is coming to DC Universe as well, from executive producers Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Jeremy Carver and Sarah Schechter. Production will begin later this year, and the show will premiere on DC Universe in 2019. Check out all of the official details from the press release below.

Logline: DOOM PATROL is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol's members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities — but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of TITANS, DOOM PATROL will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.

Seriously, this DC service thing better have a solid budget. I like the ideas being pitched here (apart from Titans, black star fire makes no sense to me), I'm just worried that a bad budget is going to make it look like a CW show.

    From what I've heard they aren't even going to apply makeup to make her look like a comic book star fire not even cgi(which would cost a lot of money). That's why I said black star fire and didn't mention the actress. Now If I'm wrong let me know.
    Also I don't know what Trump has to do with this.

    I have no problem with them casting a black actress, but from what I've heard they aren't even going to apply makeup to make her look like a comic book star fire. That's why I said black star fire and didn't mention the actress. Now If I'm wrong let me know.

      I dont know if they'll use make-up or not, but does it really matter? They could always use cgi to make her orange, because orange make up on a full body will probably look cheap like in the old movies.

        I feel like using cgi to change her skin colour in almost every episode would cost too much money, then again WB hasn't really made it clear how much money they're investing in this so I may be wrong.
        Look maybe I'm jumping to conclusions too quickly (i'll wait till they release an official image of starfire), but i would be really upset if they released an official press photo and it was just a black star fire. I was okay with black Zod in Krypton, kryptonians are pretty much human beings with superpowers, but I really don't want black star fire (I'm black btw).

        They CGI Martian Manhunter on Supergirl. I'm sure they'll use the same technique on Starfire for some of her scenes.

        I see what youre saying, but i think that they'll give her some sort of alter ego, they'll probably let her stay natural and then make her turn green for action sequences.

        Gamora had a paint job, they didnt use cgi because they had the budget to go through all the procedures that took 5 hours each day.

        my point is that one need great budget to shoot alien characters to make it convincing,and gamora & starfire share same characteristic. whether it was with body paint or CGI affects little. if they gonna use CW-level CGI then fans can bid accurate potrayal a nice goodbye.

        Green makeup for gamora didn't look bad. Or Batista's Drax paint. Its It's doable for sure. I doubt they'll do it. Fucking beast boy had green hair instead of green skin and robin looked like a guy

      I won't watch Titans if they completely ignore Starfire's design. That's insane. That's like making Martian Manhunter a white guy and just saying he's martian.

    There's no green women out there either yet that didn't stop Marvel from having Zoe Saldana be Gamora and having her be green with make up. No blue women either yet Karen Gillian has blue make up for Nebula.
    I have no problem with a Black actress playing Starfire but lets face it if it was a White woman playing her then we all know they would have her in orange make up for the role.

      Those are good examples, but youre comparing a 200 million + blockbusters to a tv show. Zoe had to sit for 5 + hours a day to get her body paint "The things that were coming out of my nose, my mouth, my..." Do you think they'll do all of that on a tv budget? And if they do, it wont look as professional since they also used prosthetics.

    Although I'm going to wait and see, some of the guys reminded me of the martian manhunter cg they used in super girl, if it turns out to just be a black star fire I'm going to get ticked off.
    I don't like going political here but it would be virtue singling put into overdrive. Anyways I'm just going on speculation and not facts so I won't jump on the hate train just yet.

  Maisie Richardson-Sellers from Legends of Tomorrow would've made a great Star Fire, Allison Miller, Christine Adams, Naomi Scott, or Olivia Thirlby. Just my 2 cents.

  CW shows are fine though, Legends for instance is easily the best live action DC show out there.

    I find it to be extremely cheesy and overrated. I can enjoy it, but it's not what I'd consider to be the bar for great superhero shows, that award goes to Legion.

        Very hard to explain but its easily the best comic book related show out there, i recommend giving the first episode or two a try as that's better reading a description of it what doesn't do it justice.

        X-Men related but very loosely, its not in the films universe (we assume) but Mutants do exist as the main character David is one and a very powerful one and the X-Men do exist we think (haven't been name dropped but Professor X is David's Dad in the comics and the show has confirmed that's the same in the show even if he's never been actually name dropped). Have you heard of an X-Men villain called The Shadow King? Because he's the big bad and is fantastic in it.
        I will say the show is very weird and trippy though and it has a style where it looks 70's set but is actually in present day. Its incredible though with fantastic storytelling and acting and makes you question reality and what is and isn't real, safe to its a really smart show and has a ton of depth and multiple layers.

        Its an x-men series based on a character called legion. It's on FX. Basically the guy is the son of professor x and he has a bunch of abilities which he gains by accessing the different personalities in his psyche, the only problem is every ability he uses has its own personality some good, some bad. It's a pretty good show, you should check it out.

    Lucifer is the best comic book show in my opinion. I hope DC Universe gives Lucifer a 4th season because Fox didn't.

      If you forget everything you know about DC comics and pretend you're a kid watching Saturday morning cartoons, Legends can be pretty fun. Supergirl on the other hand is mind-numbingly terrible. The absolute worst show on television. No amount of pretending can fix that.

Curious if dc films cyborg will be connected to this show. Cool way of bringing in all these heroes. Although this nightwing is far too young cause of an older Bruce. Still would be nice to see it all tied together.

Cool! But is WB REALLY trying to go all in on these budgets?   Plus movies... I don't think it's coincidence that the Burton / Schumacher films recently came off of Netflix. OTOH, I think the current exclusive Netflix deals for Gotham and the CW shows (no idea on Lucifer) are far too lucrative to mess with.

    By no means I'm rich, but my finances are good enough that I can do that. I don't mind paying for things I might enjoy, let alone things I do enjoy.
    I'm used to buying UFC PPVs. Sometimes they deliver, sometimes they don't, but I prefer that than streaming from sites with annoying ads, waiting for it to come out...

  It's possible that a lot of these DC streaming shows are being made considering the fact that the CW shows aren't doing that great. Perhaps they'll even need a backup place to go if they continue falling in the ratings.
  Arrow for example is just barely holding on above a million viewers (and it even dipped below that level for a few episodes).

    So ? Just cause they got renewed doesn't mean they aren't losing viewers. By now, if Arrow is struggling to keep above a million viewers now, it's likely to bleed even more next season.

      It's quite rare for shows to gain viewers in subsequent seasons. Even shows that are very popular tend to lose more and more viewers every passing season. That's just the way things tend to work.
      There are exceptions, but they're few and far between.

I seriously wished they wouldn't butch Koriand'r limiting to low TV budget cause she deserves high budget if her origins and intensity were done justice.
She and her sister would be bigger than Wonder Woman cause their hasn't been a superheroine that was sold into slavery by cause of her sister.
She even in my opinion has a bigger will to not break down than Batman and Wonder Woman because they didn't lose their entire planet in front of them she did Tamaran exploded with her parents while she was fighting psions combined with 6 years of slavery at the age of 12.
She could be a great inspiration for young woman about empowerment not letting abuse define who you are she amazing soo full of potential I just wish dc would see they got a billion dollar superheroine under their noses if they do it faithful to the George Perez and Marv Wolfman version it would be one of the best superhero movies but it can't sugar coat the slavery part of her sister selling her to the Gordanians and buying her back to keep torturing her she has to have that unbreakable will to always take life like a challenge with a smile is confident in how she looks but knows she more than just beautiful woman but accepts it cause being beautiful isn't a crime like feminist would like people to believe she's also super smart and a fierce warrior trained by the warlords of Okarra in battle keep her goddess X'hal expression when she's surprise.
They need and actress that can jump from being an Angel to becoming a demon in battle cause she's impulsive and impatient in the comics it would make a fun dynamic with the rest of the team saying don't kill but her culture has no problem killing enemies she would have to learn during the trilogy to not kill your enemies.
Do starbolts in their original red and yellow color depending the intensity of the heat and Blackfire blue cause it's supposed to be stronger cause she was more time in the experiment not green cause their are no green stars and their powers comes from solar absorption.

I have no idea what this is, but I can'rt wait to see it. They're really going "all out" with this streaming service.
The only question I still have is, how will they cater for international markets, will they disregard them like they do their comic-books or will they do a "CBS" and have Netflix do the streaming internationally?
