Swamp Thing series from 'Aquaman' director James Wan announced for DC Universe

Earlier today Warner Bros. announced that the upcoming DC streaming video service would be called "DC Universe", and now they've announced a brand new show that will air exclusively on the service.

A live-action Swamp Thing series is coming to DC Universe from Aquaman director James Wan's production company, Atomic Monster, and Warner Bros. Television. Wan will serve as an executive producer and had the following to say on Twitter:

    I'd be open to hearing Margot voice act the character.
    I love the hell out of Tara Strong (her Batgirl voice is as iconic as Conroy's Batman to me), but her Harley always felt a little (what's a nice way to say this...) overly-cartoonified, maybe even a little too babyish. I hate saying that, and I know it's nitpicky, but it can be distracting sometimes.
    The original Harley from BTAS was the perfect tone balance and felt natural. No one else has matched her since. Give Margot a shot.

      Considering the role was created exactly for Arleen Sorkin and is in small parts based on another role she done i don't see how she could be beaten, Sorkin made Harley who she was and every quirk and trait is thanks to Sorkin and Paul Dini, no other writer and actress will ever give us a Harley like them who as it stands is the one true and definite Harley. I do love Robbie as Harley but sadly she is more N52 trashy Harley then BTAS or Mad Love Harley.

        Well, I figure that N52 trashiness is a product of the vision for the SS movie specifically, and I reckon Margot can do the Harley we want quite well if she's given the right material.
        You're probably right that no one can match Arleen Sorkin (for the reasons you already listed), but I'd like to give our new Harley a chance.
        I guess we don't know what tone/approach this new animated series will take, though... Hope it's more Mad Love than it is N52. They have definitely heard us whining about her portrayal by now. lol

        idk why people are so against her being more open about her sexuality. THere are some characters that fit well into those types of characterizations imo. SO long as she is still interesting, i dont see much problem with it

        i think we had this discussion before in regards to Catwoman. I didn't see anything overly trashy about Harley in that movie personally. Her pants were a little short tho...but my thing is that characters like her and catwoman are supposed to be "bad girls". So if Harley sleeps around a little bit its like..."okay". Besides, I mostly view it as an extension of the original BTAS version who, while obviously wasn't overtly provocative since it was a kids show, was clearly meant to have "certain" traits

        I love Robbie as Harley its just more how she was written that i don't like, i don't doubt she couldn't do a more classic type Harley as she's a very talented actress who clearly loves the character.

      Im not the biggest fan of Tara Strong's Harley voice. Like...I get it. Its easy to understand what its supposed to be. But just like you said, it feels like it overly cartoonifies the character. She is a silly character, but i think this show is supposed to be a more adult take on HQ? More like the recent comics. Comparable to Deadpool in some ways. I just don't think Tara's Harley is always necessary. Unfortunately I feel like since they love to use her so much, people are starting to think of that as the definitive Harley voice similar to Conroy or Hamil which is just...ehhhhh. Honestly I am fine if Margot just played it the way she did in the movie. I don't personally need the really thick accent.

I'm kind of *hand waves* about it just because one of the things that makes the Swamp Thing romance flow so well is that she only meets him for the first time after he's already Swamp Thing, he wouldn't have to worry about her only loving him because of the Human Alec once they find out that he never was human and is instead just a plant who thinks he's Alec Holland.
Also the absence of Linda kind of suggests that the only traumatic thing Swamp Thing experiences is going to be what happens to 'him' instead of the double loss of someone he cared about and his friend Matt Cable coming after him as a result.
There's a lot of ways these changes could go wrong but I hope they're handled well and the movie story turns out good if different to the comic itineration.

  The Wein/Wrightson series was superior to the Moore run ( which was great also)...but let's forget the Moore years and stick to the menace and weird suspense of the original.

    Wow... at the time, very few people cared about Swamp Thing in his original run; the character didn't get much attention until Moore / Bissette / Totleben. Plus, that run was groundbreaking in that it became the first ongoing series from a major publisher (other than Gold Key/Whitman) to drop the Comics Code Authority seal permanently. That was a HUGE deal at the time.

This is great news! Loved the cartoons as a child, definitely want to see this. Also, finally saw Infinity War last night, and I really enjoyed it, great movie which deserves the money it is making.

  I was really disappointed in Infinity War.
  I was really hoping they would actually kill off more characters. Half of the heroes "died" but we know they're all going to come back. It killed all the immersion for me.I wish they let Spidey and Black Panther live and maybe kill off Cap or Iron Man. That way, I maybe would've believed they're actually dead. The movie also felt like it was too much. It didn't have a lot of time to breathe in between action scenes. I do think this was the best movie possible with that many characters though
  and Thanos was amazing. Can't wait to see him again in Part 2.

    Disagree completely, the "death's" were perfect. We all know the characters that will come back, but there are some that might actually stay dead. The action scenes were amazingly done, and I never felt it was too much, for it felt necessary. Each action scene had such high stakes with the characters, of course you have to see the previous movies to truly feel an emotional attachment, but that is expected going in. This was the Main Issue with BvS and JL, no character development. Thanos, my goodness, I was scared FOR the Avengers through out, never felt that way before over a villain in a comicbook movie, ever. Anyways, this was the culmination of world building and character development, hence the box office breaking, it was truly revolutionary to another degree, and this is coming from a hardcore DC fan.

How about a live action Deathstroke series if his movie is on hold?
A Batman prequel series set in the DCEU with a younger actor playing Ben Afflecks Batman. Fill in the twenty years gap we have in the DCEU.
A Sandman TV series would be fantastic as well.
A Cyborg mini series to fill in the blanks cut from Justice League would be welcome.

But I insist that they should also make series connected to the DCEU; 'Swamp Thing' could be the first (with Wan maybe there is that possibility).
Then, at some point, DC/WB could finally adapt the much-rumored JLD movie with that same Swamp Thing as a member. On that part, the DCEU would make the difference with the MCU.

    Still images aren't bad, the problem comes when he's in motion. It's a lot like Tarkin from Rogue One: still image, pretty convincing, as soon as he starts talking, the mouth movement ruins the illusion.

You literally could not make me happier than this. I just caught up on the Conjuring films, and Wan is absolutely the only man other than Guillermo del Toro that I think would 1000% nail this property. He really applies himself lovingly to understand the stories and characters he's adapting, and the style is right up his alley of interest.
I am so grateful that this even happened. Holy ****.
Would love for his next project to be JL Dark. Still want Ron Perlman for Swampy. :)

CG? Well.... TV budgets are not kind to CG creations either - especially when Swamp Thing is the protagonist. Unless they do something cheap and stupid like have him in a "human body" for 95% of the show like they do with Martian Manhunter on Stupidgirl.... Err... I mean Supergirl.
