'Mission: Impossible' director and Henry Cavill discussed 'Man of Steel 2' on set

Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie passed on directing Green Lantern Corps. last year, but perhaps he has his eyes on Superman instead.

A fan recently asked McQuarrie on Twitter if he'd want to direct the next Superman movie, and he replied "They know where to find me." ComicBook caught up with McQuarrie at CinemaCon this week and asked how real of a possibility him directing Man of Steel 2 would be, and what his Superman would be like.

"Henry Cavill knows what it would be like. We had a a lot of time hanging out on set, and Henry's a huge fan of Superman," McQuarrie told ComicBook. "I can't help but talk story to people, so he told me his take on Superman and I thought it was really great, and I gave him my two cents. The tweet you're referring to is somebody asked 'Would you do it?' and I said 'Hey, they know where to find me.' Nobody's asked, but you know..."

When a fan on Twitter mentioned this story to him, McQuarrie replied "it’s a great idea...".

McQuarrie is a writer as well as a director, and it sounds like he'd be down to make the version of Man of Steel 2 that he and Cavill discussed on the set of Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Do you think he'd be a good choice? Let me know in the comments below.

    Writing a movie is not enough, I am not saying that Christopher McQuarrie is a bad director because his IMDB score shows otherwise, but if you look at "oscar winner" Chris Terrio or David Goyer IMDB score as a movie director...

      You misread my post. I was just saying that a good writer is not always a good director, and Edge of Tomorrow cannot be considered as a reference for Christopher McQuarrie because Doug Liman directed it.

Steven Spielberg is my top pick to direct MOS 2 , but if Christopher McQuarrie really wants to do it then WB should hire him as soon as possible.

I can't think of a Christopher McQuarrie movie that I didn't think was fantastic, so I would love to see what he would do with Superman. Just make the movie happen already. It's been a loooooong time since MoS.

  i have a feeling he still wants to maintain the more "modern" approach but also get back to some of the more core values and feel of the character.

    I agree. The Audience seems to like him in JL though, so i dont know which route they'll take.

      well the tone of the character was fine imo. For me it was just some of the dialogue that I didn't like it. And even then, some of it was really just because of the fact that he had JUST come back to life. If he had been alive again for a few years under his new understanding of himself and new life perspective and all that, resulting in a more happy and playful demeanor, I wouldn't have minded it as much

      When you say "The Audience seems to like him in JL though", you used an uppercase "A"... if you referring to the American audience, then yeah maybe. I don't understand what makes Henry Cavill more interesting to you in JL than Man of Steel and BvS... unless it's his famous "I believe in truth, but I am also a big fan of justice" line which tickles your pickle...

      hey I liked Superman in the previous movies but that line was the most gloriously cheesy thing ever and tbh I loved it. Henry delivered well too which could be a big reason why it worked in my opinion

      The capital A was a typo. Supes in mos was fine, since he was still learning and everything was new to him, but bvs dragged it for way too long and he only found his way towards the end, but it was too late. Supes in JL was fine, they just need to give him a better script. Supes had to evolve one day, he cant be confused or sad and moping around again. At the end of mos when lois welcomed him to the daily planet, i thought we were getting the confident, beacon of hope supes that everybody were waiting for in the next movie, but we got bvs.

      I honestly wouldn’t have a problem with JL Supes much if they just got to that point naturally instead of making it completely forced and rushed. Well, with the slight amendment of making the battles not so easy and not letting him defy physics like a cartoon or smile constantly.

      You are talking about Man of Steel and BvS like they were the worse superhero movie ever. You're wrong when you say "the world" because you barely like or don't like those movies, but you do not represent the 100% as you wish.       I just told you that i liked mos, but it was divisive, its common knowledge, and bvs was disliked by most, just look at the numbers, not to mention a record breaking second weekend drop. Bvs is what daredevil was back in 2003, a joke. I do think that bvs is one of the worst superhero movies of all time. JL has a better score than bvs, from the critics and audience, which said that it was a step in the right direction. Btw, im not American ;)

      JL, SS ,BVS are all bad movies, but at least JL and SS were entertaining, while BVS sucked and was boring, nothing to enjoy at all other then the warehouse fight.

Incredible writer (Usual Suspects, Edge of Tomorrow) and after doing two M:I films you know he can handle big production sets. He would be a great choice and he has the sci-fi chops to do a great Braniac film.

We've waited long enough. Give us the blockbuster Superman film we have been waiting 80years to see. Show him using his full range of abilities to save people and prevent disasters in a way only he can. Show him being happy and self sacrifing and the beacon of hope the whole world and even the rest of the Justice League look up to. If done right it could be the greatest superhero movie ever.
