The rumors were true! We had heard that Wonder Woman 2 would take place during the Cold War in the 1980s, and director Patty Jenkins confirmed it tonight.

Jenkins took the stage at Warner Bros.' CinemaCon presentation tonight in Las Vegas. While she didn't mention the Cold War, she did confirm that the movie will take place in the 1980s.

Some fans may be surprised to hear that Wonder Woman 2 takes place in the 80s, since Batman v Superman and Justice League told us that she walked away from mankind for 100 years after World War 1. But Gal Gadot has said that she doesn't agree with that backstory, and it looks like the DCEU will be ignoring it going forward.

Aquaman director James Wan was there as well with stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Wan didn't want to show any footage because the visual effects still aren't done, but said that Warner Bros. made him anyways. The reactions were positive!

Shazam director David Sandberg took the stage as well. He showed some brief behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, and said that they're "creating a modern DC cinematic universe accessible to the whole family".

    They brought it up in order to explain that she still fought and helped, but just wasn’t a “beacon”/public figure like Superman, which I think is a much better way of handling it rather than pretending like it was never said in the first place

      I get it now. So she didn't make world news like poor Zack Snyder's Superman did. I hope they keep the media away from her in the WW 2 movie. That helps keep her story connected in that way. For me, I would prefer that.

    I never saw why the "100 years" thing was a big deal. I mean, she said she walked away from mankind, but it's not like she implied she sat on her butt all those years doing nothing.
    Even in BvS, it was implied Wonder Woman was doing stuff in-between when she said "I've killed things from other worlds before."
    Since WW showcases that Diana has never left the island and lived a relatively sheltered life until World War I, then the things she killed from "Other worlds" feasibly had to have taken place post-Wonder Woman movie and pre-Man of Steel/BvS.

    Also it seems that everyone is overlooking the Cold War aspect of Wonder Woman 2... where she could still have “walked away from mankind” and simultaneously fought for a good cause... just not publicly.

      That´s how I see it. WW fought for a good cause during those 100 years, but like Batman said, her existance never became public knowledge, unlike Superman. She never wanted to give hope to the world or inspire people, but that doesn´t mean she let people to be hurt.

God i want Aquaman to be so good.
It sucks that DC has to put out fantastic work to be considered decent by critics while Marvel and Infinity War, once again, are getting a pass by being mediocre.

        Check out the reviews for GotG 2. Most reviewers kept saying that the film has no plot until the second or third act, but they still gave the film a pass. However, from just reading Screenrant's review, the film has one issue that I knew it was gonna have: it's overstuffed. There are too many characters in the film, so not everyone gets a lot of focus, and as a result lack development in the film.

        If you look at the scores instead of the percentage, you can see that both movies scored pretty average compared to other "good" Marvel movies. It's even below Wonder Woman. So no, I don't think critics are biased.

        I don't about IW, but I saw GotG 2. I've read and watched reviews tear down films for barely having any plot, but if you read the reviews you can tell that critics weren't trying to be harsh on the film. Do I think they were being biased? No. But they were more lenient on the film since the MCU brand is basically the gold standard of the comic book genre.

    No, because they'd be called Snyderbots, liking a movie isn't enough nowadays. You gotta be backed by positive critics opinion and a good BO money performance. If you're backed by both perfectly, only then will you have the permission to like that movie and considered a normal human being. It's quite the norm nowadays.

    Huh, you seem to have read into my comment what you wanted to!
    I am not arguing that "Infinity War" is getting bad reviews. I AM arguing, however, that if negative reviews are legitimate and worth citing for BVS, then they are legitimate and worth citing for Infinity War.
    If, on the other hand, negative reviews for BVS are to a large extent without merit -- as I have felt -- then perhaps it's okay to question the merit of negative reviews of Infinity War.
    Allow me to defend Marvel for a moment. I haven't seen the movie yet. I will see it on Monday and make up my own mind. I actually liked "Thor: Ragnarok." The first MCU movie (beyond "Iron Man") that I've enjoyed. Hated "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and thought "Black Panther" was supremely overrated, outside of the terrific, Shakespearean dream/ghost sequences. So we will see what I think of this one.
    BUT... This much is clear: I see movie critics saying this movie is "exhausting." Okay, well... Movies aren't exhausting. That's such a whiny and nonsensical criticism. They said the same thing about BVS. If a movie exhausts you, hit the gym and stop whining.

Personally, I'm as happy with the fact that I won't see Infinity War as I am with the fact that I'm probably the only person who went into a comics shop in 1991 who never bought X-Men #1.

        First, I'm not going to deal with the chore of going to the movies to see characters and stories I don't care about; I have hours of stuff on my Dvr that I would find just as entertaining. Second, back when I was buying a lot of comics, and there was a ton of interconnected stuff going on, given a limited budget I could either focus on one company's universe or split my order between the two (plus some other stuff like Cerebus). I never cared a whole lot about the Marvel characters anyway, so I stuck with my first superhero love, Batman, and with DC.

James Won did not want to release footage yet, because he wanted to have effects completed, but WB forced him to? Screw you WB, you guys are feeling the desperation of having something to show, because Avengers is going to kick a$$. Maybe now you idiots regret not pushing JL back to 2018. As for WW 2, I like the idea of she just never made herself a public figure like Superman had to, because of the threat from Zod, as a way to explain how she really had not done things way out in the open, but still helped mankind when needed. Kind of like Batman does, or these mysterious figures that we hear stories about, but don't even know if they are true or just a group of people smoking too much of the peace pipe.

  WB didn't force James Wan to show the footage because he doesn't own the footage, WB does and they can release it as they please. Plus, this was a closed event for theater owners, not fans, and it probably was giving them am idea of what they can expect for add-ons like $8 souvenir drink cups as well.

  DC "did" need to course correct the film franchise, i just hope they dont swing to far in the opposite direction. I liked the mature vision they were going for, it was how it was handled that was the problem. They could still keep that vision just tighten up the scripts and give us the characters as comic accurate as possible. I feel DC done right could honestly rival anything Marvel has done to date. I say that as someone who is a fan of both but i reallyy hope DC turns it around.

  It wasn't "critics and fans." It was the fact that Batman v. Superman fell short of expectations and made less money than either of the last two Batman films. Or more accurately, that it had one of the worst second week declines in history, with the only superhero movie having a worse drop-off being Ang Lee's Hulk.

  That doesn't happen by accident. It usually means that a lot of people didn't like what they saw, and that word of mouth suffered as a result. Compare that to Wonder Woman, which had fantastic repeat viewings week after week because the word of mouth was positive. All art is of course subjective and nobody's opinion is anymore valid than anyone else's, but it's clear that for a significant chunk of viewers, something wasn't clicking.

    The movie being "dark" had nothing to do with that. It was just bad storytelling, bad editing, and just a bad movie. But critics and fans were whining about it being too dark as well. Well, great, now we get Marvel 2.0. I rather watch Marvel movies for that. DC should be tonally different. Otherwise we get 13 in a dozen.

      I liked the extended cut but it was suffocatingly bleak and depressing for most of the film, then the warehouse scene and rescue is cool, then Superman dies and it's back to mopeville again. I dig parts of it a lot and am not a hater, but yeah it was a fairly joyless film. Wonder Woman on the other hand had a good tone to it that balanced things well then I thought Justice League was too light hearted and hollow as an over correction. They just need a balanced tone like Wonder Woman or Batman Begins had as far as balancing serious themes with appropriate comedic relief from dramatic tension.

On TV I grew up with Adam West as Batman! Actually i like my DC Characters dark in the comics. Back then My Favorite is of course Batman. I love The Spectre and also Deadman as Favorites back in the '70's... I grew up on Neil Adams and Dick Giordano!

  I'd be extremely surprised if we saw anything before Comic-Con, which seems like the perfect date because it's far away from the oxygen-stealing 'Infinity War' and with Marvel not having a panel this year, it could very well be the biggest comic-book movie at the Con.

I think the "100 years thing" will be like a time with secret missions. In BvS/JL she is back in the game like she never did it before and now it's not a secret that there is a Wonder Woman among people. In WW and WW2 she stays in the backtage of history. Will WW3 take a place nowadays??

I'd be ok if Wonder Woman 2 started off a few months after Steve Trevor has died and it gives us a small montage of Diana getting involved in all the major conflicts from WW2 right up to the the 80s. It would show us how she still helped but kept it low key, then we are up to speed when it reaches the 80s and the film could begin for real.

I think they may be finally getting on the right track. But I've also said that after every time I saw something that looked like a positive development, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.
But with Jenkins, Wan and Sandberg, they have a damn talented roster of creators lined up finally.

  I think I would've preferred him there rather the big screen because in my perspective, he is irrelevant to the modern day demand of comic book genre's in cinema. I feel it has great potential to fail, however, the results should be interesting.
