Warner Bros. moves 'Aquaman' release date up a week in the UK

Fans in the UK are getting Aquaman a week sooner.

Warner Bros. told Digital Spy that the new release date for Aquaman is December 14th, a week earlier than its previous December 21st date. There's no word yet on if the US date has changed as well, but as Digital Spy notes, DC movies usually are released in the UK and US on the same day.

I've reached out to Warner Bros. for confirmation on if Aquaman's release date has changed in the US too, and will update this post if/when I hear back.

That’s good. The whole films coming out on Christmas Day thing blows my mind (I know Aquaman doesn’t, but I’ve seen films do it in the past, and the original Aquaman release date was very close), is going to the cinema on Christmas Day a thing in America?

When we were younger, my brother and I would go to the movies late on Christmas Day, after the presents and dinner, etc. were done and you're in that awkward place where there's nothing left to do but chill. Thanksgiving, too.

Guaranteed to be moved up in the US as well. WB can’t afford not to succeed financially with Aquaman for the DCEU and going head to head against a Transformers movie starting Bumblebee (Which is one of the few highlights of that franchise) is not a good way to start. The last TF film opened with 44 million. A Bumblebee film is going to open much lower than that. DCEU movies haven't exactly been homeruns, but there's no way Aquaman is going to get beaten by a freaking Bumblebee movie.

    TF5 opening at a record low for the franchise is a fact.
    A Bumblebee spin-off film is never going to make more than a main TF film, that seems like a pretty safe assumption, not "wild speculation".
    BB has a chance of grossing MAYBE 40 million opening weekend, at best. Aquaman is gonna do more than that, without even trying.
    Do you honestly believe Aquaman will open south of 40 million, while BB is gonna open higher than TF5? Give me a break...

You'll be proven wrong again later this year when it comes out and if you are going to use quotations at least do it right and don't use additional words like "wild" that were never there to begin with. You've miss the whole point of my original post as usual, it has nothing to do with Aquaman possibly opening south of 40M but everything to do with WB not wanting any competition that will hurt it's opening weekend from the same targeted group. The demographic of people who will be watching BB are pretty much the same as Aquaman so taking 40M away from it's full potential is not the best move. But we will find out who's right here soon enough if WB indeed does change it's date! And I would love to give you a break, right over your head <3

    Okay. But TF5 disappointed EVEN MORE than JL did. JL opened twice as high as TF5. Yes, the DCEU is failing... but the TF "universe" is failing much harder. Also, who even asked for or cares about a BB film? At least with Aquaman, it presents something new, with a good, proven director and it's a movie at least some people are genuinely interested in. The same simply can't be said for the BB movie.

Hair: Henry Cavill had to dye his hair too in order to play Superman (you can notice that at the beginning of the dream sequence with Zod). But dying brown hair to black is easier than dying black hair to blonde. Jared Leto sacrificed more about his hair and eyebrows than any of those actors.
Muscles: Jason Momoa has always been in shape, it's almost natural for him. Christopher Reeve was really skinny, not fair but it's life, he didn't want to wear muscle pads and bulked up, we can admire that.
Acting: His character may not have been really useful in a butchered JL, but did he play Khal Drogo? Like it or not, some people liked Jason Momoa's Aquaman. Why?
- Because he's badass, he can make you forget the fish jokes.
- Because people have never seen Aquaman on big screen before. Now he's going to be the reference, not your Geoff Johns' New 52 handsome boy, no need another handsome boy when you already have the best of them: Superman.

  I can’t say Jason Momoa bothers me as Aquaman. I’m pretty cool with it and I liked him well enough in JL. That being said, I do understand where you’re coming from. It does seem that the main reason Momoa was chosen was because everyone is still insecure about Aquaman and want to make him “badass”. At least he’s getting his comic outfit in the upcoming movie.
  I agree with your main sentiment. The DCEU does tend to turn the characters into the actors rather than the other way around. Ezra Miller is a great example.

I feel if the movie gets locked and all the effects are done earlier than anticipated, then WB should move Aquaman to a less busy slot. It will be a full year since a DC film was in the cinema so getting it out earlier, if its ready would only be a good thing in my eyes. Especially if it has less to compete with. Its not that i lack faith in the movie or anything but lets be honest, right now the DCEU needs every chance it can get, to turn things around.
