'Suicide Squad 2' director made the most rented movie of 2017 (The Accountant)

Ben Affleck's 2016 movie The Accountant made $155 million worldwide, enough to warrant a planned sequel, but it was an even bigger hit on home video!

According to the Motion Picture Association of America, The Accountant, which was directed by Suicide Squad 2 director Gavin O'Connor, was the number one rented DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital movie in the US in 2017. The Accountant even beat out Wonder Woman, which was the fourth most rented movie on DVD/Blu-ray and the third most rented movie on Digital.

Gavin O'Connor is currently writing Suicide Squad 2 and will direct it later this year. It's expected to begin production this fall.

That's because A) At the time of it's release to home video, there wasn't another good movie available; and B) of course it would out rent Wonder Woman. Why rent Wonder Woman, if you already saw it at the movie theater?

I wouldn't say it wasn't a hit in theaters- over $86 million on domestic box office and over $155 total is pretty damn good on a $44 million dollar budget. Movies that aren't hits don't get greenlit sequels. Also not surprised about the rental sales. Very good movie.

    Let me break it down for you. The budget is 44m without counting marketing, which is probably at least 30m, then you have theaters taking about 25-30% domestically, and foreign countries such as china takes way more than 30%.

  You won't regret it! I saw it in cinemas and went straight to buy the steelbook as soon as it was released. I was greatly surprised by the whole movie (characters, action...). One could argue it was a typical action movie, but it had enough details to make it feel apart from others

I watched it and it was very good. Don’t get the low critics but the users loved it so thats good. Suicide Squad is in good hands I believe. These kind of movies should be action packed, and fun. I’m not expecting a masterpiece in term of storytelling. I’m expecting great one liners, great acting and rewarding finale. I hope they don’t waste the movie on introductions. They can incorporate that in one epic intro scene.

Damn good movie! Affleck was great in that. There was a stoic/intellectualness/silent bad@$$ness to his character, that I'd like to see depicted in the next Batman portrayal...whether it's Affleck, or another actor.

This movie is sooo weird. On one hand it has the tonality of a meditative character piece about fathers raising their sons and on the other it's this pulpy violent quasi-vigilante/conspiracy thriller. It's just a real odd mixing of tones that maybe dosen't work all the way but made for one of the more interesting action films.

The premise and twists of the movie are very comic-booky.
Spoilers:

He and his brother are sent to train with monks as children and he has a sister that functions like his Oracle. Affleck has a mild-mannered secret identity. His estranged brother also grows up to be a contract killer and Affleck's character is trying to kill his brother's employer the whole movie but the two brothers don't know they're fighting each other until the end. Wacky but fun enough movie.
