on 'The Batman' director Matt Reeves says it's going "really, really well"

The most recent update we had for The Batman was last December when director Matt Reeves revealed that he finished the story and was beginning to outline the script. Today, Reeves provided another small, but exciting update.

"Really, really well, thanks!," Reeves told a fan who asked how The Batman was going. "I could not be more excited!"

My guess is that Reeves will take as much time as he needs in 2018 to get his script perfect. Then he'll be ready to shoot The Batman in 2019 for a Summer 2020 release.

      Gyllenhaal is such a great actor though, the guy has some serious range. I like Affleck a lot in the role, I want him to keep it, but if Gyllenhaal is chosen, i won’t be mad

        Don’t call people blind while being blind yourself. Ben Affleck’s performance is one of the most widely celebrated and universally appreciated parts of BvS.

          Really like Ben as Batman, but he doesn't even care in Justice League. It's so obvious. I don't blame him to much for that though.

            I don't think he doesn't care, Warner was the problem in Justice League and the reshoots with Joss. That's why Ben is not that good there, but with Matt it can change and improve.

      Justice League most definitely wasn't going well. Bad news were circulating even before the shooting started. Then there were of Snyder having to reshoot 40% of the movie. Then we heard about the concept of the movie about 4 times. The rest is Josstice League history.

        The first problem was that the pre-production was all done for Justice League Part I. When Part II was cancelled just before the start of shooting, they had to scramble to redo the story to "get to the hope sooner," i.e. to not end the movie with Superman in a black suit working for Darkseid. My impression is that the whole "Phase I" of the DCEU was going to be a years-long buildup to the montage we saw at the end of JL that was the "happy ending" to all 9 films (MoS,BvS, SS, WW, JL1, Flash, Aquaman, Shazam, JL2) and the point at which the characters finally become the true heroes from the comics.

        As much as I liked BvS but ya I agree with you. You can't go far with a Character who already at the end while not witnessing anything of his past. A flashback with another Actor would suck so I hope somehow they would scratsh that Batman and start over

    I really hope we hear some solid details about this soon. I'm glad Reeves is committed to the project and I'm not looking for them to spoil the whole movie. Just give us some nuggets of plot info, enough to generate buzz and spark discussions about the film. The one big elephant in the room though really should be addressed, is Affleck in or out? Its dragged on long enough and the prolonged silence from all parties is a bit of an insult to us fans in my opinion. I hope he stays, he could be a fantastic Batman if given the right opportunity.

    Well, I'm stoked to hear the good news, even if I don't know who will be cast. Making a true-to-canon DC Batman film is probably the highest priority for me as a Batfan. Way to take your time and not rush this project. Hopefully, it will be all worth it.
