'Justice League' concept art reveals Batman's scrapped Batcycle

Last November, Justice League production Patrick Tatopoulos shared a sketch of a motorcyle he designed for Batman. Apparently the idea went a bit further than that doodle, because now Justice League concept artist Ed Natividad has shared a design he came up with for the Batcycle.

The Batcycle looks like it would have been some kind of hovercraft, but it was never part of the movie. Natividad also worked on vehicles that were though, including the upgraded Batmobile, the Flying Fox Batjet, and the new Nightcrawler vehicle. Check out concept art for all of them in the gallery below.

So it could get a minute of screentime (or less) before becoming useless like the rest? Flying Fox (more like Flying Whale btw) and Nightcrawler (Batcrab) were over hyped and honestly ugly looking and dumb.
To finish on a positive note, though, Batmobile and Batplane are my favorites of all time

I don’t mind the Flying Fox much; they needed a big plane, so it gets the job done. And a Flying Fox IS a rather huge bat. But yeah the Nightcrawler I could live without.

  No, I know what a Flying fox (or fruit bat) is, still think it looked like a flying whale and didn't do much other than transport the team and Batmobile and explode after a minute lol. Design wise it didn't impress me really and maybe a few scenes were cut where we see what else was inside but no need to be that huge imo.
  I just think they overhyped both vehicles and none of them impressed, Nightcrawler mainly as you say.

    It needed to be big enough to carry around Batman’s car, equipment, and the whole team. The gaping whale mouth is an odd choice though. Still not a huge issue with me, though, especially when considering the randomness and quick uselessness of the Nightcrawler lol

      Pretty sure it blew up. When Bat's breaks into the weird force field it caught on fire so he get's into the batmobile and lets it explode somewhere.
      Still I felt it was unnecessarily big. Batman did not have that much equipment other than the Batmobile and the one grapnel gun he kept reaching for in every damn fight scene.

Can't say i like it, the Batpod from the Nolan Trilogy is still by far the best of the "Batcycle" type vehicles we have seen in live action. I bet if it did make it into the film it would have been destroyed within a minute of seeing it anyway.

I'm in the minority of those who didn't like the Batpod, or at least the way it looked in full flight. Sure it looked good, but it's weapons shook when he was at high-speed and it's maneuverability looked clumsy.

I'm not into the Batcycle so much as I love all of these quiet shots of the characters in situations we never get to see in the film.

Particularly enjoyed the one with Diana and Bruce in the pilots seats together, with Arthur approaching them from behind. Also love the Flash all blurred out, and Batman continuously depicted with his cape around him, as it should be. :)

Maybe, we will never know because we never saw them in their correct context, though the batmovile scene in BvS do was a little forced, Snyder directing an action scene is something i can never complain about

I enjoyed them in BvS. Wasn't wild about the vehicles or their utilization in JL. They didn't feel very Batmanny to me, with the Nightcrawler feeling clumsy and excessive.
The Flying Fox I can shrug off as a straight-forward necessity in terms of fitting Batman as a character, but the Nightcrawler was basically a Spider Slayer. haha

    The chase scenes in Nolan's films had narrative purpose.
    In BvS, it would've made narrative sense NOT to have a Batmobile chase scene (he already had a tracker on the truck anyway). But Snyder just thought "it will look cool", and that's the only justification he needs.

      He planted the tracker incase he lost the trucks he at least knew their destinations. It would have been a lot easier to steal the krypronite while it was on the move with minimal security than steal it from a heavily armed place.he basically had a plan a and a plan b.

      Not really no. Both would have still involved collatreal damage, loss of lives and destruction. Plan A was just easier. Plan B was not. It would have had him break into a fortress with an insane amount of security compared to the transport which had little security.

    Agreed, Nolans vehicles were awesome and his sequences were top notch. Say what you about his h2h fights but the man gets vehicular action like virtually no other. Snyder's vehicles were garish and ugly, displayed nothing but regular machine guns and missiles and were wrecked with in 5 minutes of use. He forced 4 gaudy vehicles in 2 films and accomplished nothing other than wasting his budget. As you also say the sequences involving them did not eveb have good story telling. The BVS chase was a boring waste of time.

    the discussion is of the batmobile. not the bat or the bat pod... I felt like it was lazy to have multiple chases underground in multiple movies. For me it narrows the scale. as for bvs i wasn’t talking about the “why” behind it but the shots themselves. stop looking for an argument when there is none. the only explanation I could possibly try and give as to why Batman planted a tracker then decided to go mad max on the bad guys is that he just decided to say “fuck it is rather try and blow shit up” which would actually be within his character of the movie. and actually I did think of another reason for the tracker... to keep track of the lead vehicle seeing as he literally had to plow through multiple cars to get there

      you can have an opinion and I respect that. just don’t have to preach to me when mine is different than yours. I love Nolan’s movies and love the chase scenes too. just wish it could have been slightly more inventive in retrospect when you end up with the same or similar sequence in 3 films... I enjoyed the chase scene in BVS, maybe because it was just dumb fun compared to the grit of the Nolan trilogy. I have nit picked both scenes of what I don’t like but it seems you wouldn’t be satisfied unless I said “you are right everything snyder does is fucking stupid”

I think Batman in just a plane Ducati style motorcycle would be better than this hover bike

I prefer Batman to be as grounded as possible without completely neutering him. He shouldn't feel like Iron Man. His ability to succeed should be primarily based on his tactical, intuitive brain and experience, not as much on OP gadgets.
Something like either of these is fine. A modified down-to-earth motorcycle with more protection and a handful of special capabilities.

  I feel like the BvS Batmobile is light and maneuverable and narrow enough to make a batcycle of any kind a bit redundant, to be honest. Personally think Batman shouldn’t need too many vehicles for the most part.

    Yeah, it does seem like overkill to just make a bazillion varieties of vehicles and tanks - and while Bruce does have a lot of money, it seems unlike him to frivolously blow it all on every whimsical idea.
    I'd accept a Batcycle, and it may have some niche uses in a realistic scenario, but it's still a bit unnecessary in broad terms.
    Again, he's not Tony Stark, and shouldn't be.

I know right? The vehicle did absolute Scheiße. Batsy should've had his moment of time to shine with his engineering skills, but it broke apart almost 2mins in the battle.

Snyder never went in depth like Nolan giving us Lucius Fox and Wayne Tech as reasons for all his highly tech militarized equipment. Nope, Batman and Alfred with a tool belt was reasons enough.
Also, the Snyder designs would fit better with the Aliens genre, imo. Batman needs more grounded toys that are more realistic.

I love concept art. I use them to imagine how these particular scenes/gadgets/costumes might've looked in the actual movie. The hoverbike would've been a nice addition to a possible scene with Batman chasing Parademons on his own.

What an ugly Bat toy, Unfortunately the Bat toys design were awful in DCEU and Most of his toys get destroyed by the end of movie which show their uselessness.
No toy scene in DCEU can overcome this one :

PS : Snyder team are style over substance they want everything look cool without functionality that’s why Batman toys are so useless in DCEU.

Although I'm not going to argue which designs are better or not (basically because I liked what I saw from both parties), I must say the criticism about Batman "toys" getting destroyed is a tad unfair, because rarely a movie shows many vehicles surviving til the end: In Batman we saw the Batwing going down by one shot, Batman Returns sacrificied the Batmobile and the Bat-ski crashed, in Batman Forever the Riddler blew the batmobile up, you are even showing when the Tumbler got destroyed too, and The Bat also blew up by the end of Rises.
Basically the only durable bat-vehicle in movies has been the Bat-pod ;p

It would be maybe a middle ground between the Batjet and Batmobile when chasing the parademons in Gotham city. The Flying Fox, Antonov plane for the team. The crawler it was useless and less capable than the Scuttler from Lego Movie.
But the tumbler IMO, it will be always the only true Batmobile, mix between Lambo and Hummer

Picture # 13, who is the sixth member that sitting next to wonder woman in the top level? And No he is not superman nor Alfred, if you zoom in you will see he is masked more like flash suite. Aquaman with Cyborg in bottom level, Batman on front, Flash in the middle, Wonder Woman sitting with unknown sixth member in the top level. Is this mean the plan was to include another superhero in the team?
