The Office's Rainn Wilson is Lex Luthor in 'The Death of Superman'

Last year at San Diego Comic-Con, a two-part animated Superman movie was announced. The Death of Superman will be out this summer, and Reign of the Supermen will be out early next year. Today, TV Insider has the first details about the movie, including the voice cast.

Jerry O'Connell will return as Superman for the 4th time, but the big news is that The Office star Rainn Wilson will play Lex Luthor. Additionally, Rebecca Romijn has been cast as Lois Lane, Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Christopher Gorham as The Flash, Matt Lanter as Aquaman, Shemar Moore as Cyborg, and Jason O'Mara from as Batman.

At Comic-Con last year, Warner Bros. promised this two-part movie will be more faithful to the source material than 2007’s Superman: Doomsday, which left out a lot of fan favorite moments in order to fit within its 75-minute runtime.

    Oh yeah, I agree with you there. I get what he was going for, but it would have been better if he'd done that in an else word story. I think that's the only gripe I have with Snyder is sometimes he gets a little too experimental which isn't bad, but if you're building something for the mainstream you got to calm down a little.

      no because you mention Eisenberg disrespectful take on Luthor in the same sentence as Heath Ledger's iconic take on Joker. Ledger got so entrenched into the character he became heavily reliant on medication and drugs and eventually overdosed. That man LITERALLY gave his life for that role. Eisenberg, on the other hand, instead decided to ignore the personality of the character and made his own failure of an interpretation, ding ding ding ding ding snot nosed daddy issue punk. He even didn't want to shave his head, go look it up.

      Also, that last picture you posted, with young Lex looking at kryptonite. Yeah that is not from BIrthright. It's from Secret Origin (by Geoff Johns). MOS and Birthright are nowhere near the same. Birthright Superman wants to help people from the get go, and does his best to always help bystanders even if that means he has to take a beating in the process.

      Of course it is. All of this is just opinions.
      Winter Soldier was good, I agree. I like Ego, Zod, and Loki quite a lot too - though Heath's Joker is obviously on another level from pretty much everything.
      TDK's Harvey/Two-Face is an underrated performance. I thought they did such a good job that I forgave the detachment from the path the comics took.
      Nolan's Batman is Elseworlds to me in the same way the DCEU is, and I'm content with that - even preferring it to mainline canon in some ways.

    No, Luthor’s lines are fantastic. If there is any problem with him in BvS, it is without a doubt Jesse’s delivery. Not terrible by any reasonable stretch of the imagination, though.

  I think they're trying to shift their animated universe towards the rebirth continuity and this could be a good story to do so and change this Superman suit and mindset. However, they're not as pressed to do it as with the comics because the animated features had been doing well even with the N52 style and 'controversial' decisions.

      He's not contractually allowed though. I think he's exclusive with Netflix right now to only develop Millarworld (his own comic publishing company) related material. Plus, aside from Red Son, he hasn't really written anything good for DC... Most of his good stuff is over at Marvel. I don't see him as a good fit here. Personally, given Kingdom Come's Alex Ross style, I'd like to see Kingdom Come as a 3d animation.

    That’s true. But that’s where people’s thoughts are coming from. Honestly, though, I do think a lot of it is his ideas - particularly about how to best capture particular shots recreating comic panels or what have you.
    Patty Jenkins overuses slow motion. Visually, MoS and BvS - color palette, slo-mo and all - were stunning and certainly much more impactful than anything else we’ve gotten in the genre for a long time. The MCU looks gross comparatively.

      I can only recall one single instance of slow motion in all of MoS and BvS. The murder of the Waynes. As for CGI, everyone complains about that completely unnecessarily; every movie has CGI nowadays, and if you want to do the stories these movies are doing, you HAVE to. It usually looks fine. Justice League is the only true example of bad CGI in the DCEU, let’s be real.
      So what would you have preferred? Them to magically time the scene with actual lightning?? Lol

      The slow-mo in the Waynes’ murder was beautiful and helped invest a familiar scene with new emotional energy and helped recreate the scene from TDKR comic shot for shot so spectacularly.
      And then it might have been used in one other brief moment for dramatic effect.
      That’s nothing worthy of complaining about, and certainly does not in any way detract from the beauty of these films.
      Avatar was ALL CGI, but that movie is celebrated. That’s because the movie called for it. That’s what I prefer. I prefer using CGI when a situation calls for it. And these movies most definitely call for it. That’s just the nature of big, blockbuster, superhero movies dealing with godlike alien brawls and explosive spectacle and world-ending threats.
      Is this a troll? You honestly think they realistically could have posed Ben Affleck up on a building like that and get the perfect lightning strike and recreate that shot from TDKR all in real life? My Lord. If that’s your expectations, no wonder you don’t like these movies. You must think ALL movies and cheap and ugly...
      Well at least we can agree they do look nicer than most.
      But I would say that is without a doubt because of their beauty. I don’t believe that you cannot see the aesthetic appeal of those scenes I’ve posted, as well as others, honestly.

If they went for the R rating and tried to make animation as faithful as possible to Alex Ross’ style, it could possibly be their best animated film ever. I’d be pumped for that. It could also be dragged out into a 4 part release and I wouldn’t be mad.

    I have to disagree. Guy has been really good in the past ten years or so. I love BG and BB. They're not just comic relief. They're great characters. Especially in recent comics, Ted Kord and Booster Gold have been awesome. I was really hoping that they'd have Tim Daly or George Newbern voice Supes for one of the most iconic DC stories ever, but instead we're getting mostly the same old actors.     Honestly, I have no clue. It really makes the movie infinitely less appealing to me. And I'm not usually an advocate for the trunks, but this is one case where they're ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. They promised it will be more accurate than "Superman: Doomsday," but nothing indicates that. It's just an overall disappointment so far.

      The big thing for me is that by shoving this into the New52 Continuity we have to now accept that Superman won't "die" in Lois' hands. He will die in Wonder Woman's hands since this is part of the idiotic New52 line where Wonder Woman and Superman are a thing (throws up a bit). That iconic scene is now gone. Just sad. DC animation has officially jumped the shark.

      'some' being the keyword ;P Scott Snyder's run on Batman is probably one of my favourite if not my favourite, but that doesn't mean I like New52 as a whole lol.

      Anything from Suicide Squad you could recommend? I've tried multiple times but just couldn't get into it tbh. But that new Suicide Squad movie was pretty good (it just came out today).

      I'd recommend none, as there are serious issues with those comics. But I like them for getting the concept right. All the good contemporary shit that SS has, it awes to its new 52 forefather, right down to getting Harley in it. It was with the new 52 when SS stoped being about disposable nobodies and became a super-villain ansamble.

      Oh just watched it. I enjoyed it very much. There was a nipple shot even. A lousy drawn nipple, but still.
      Gotta say, I take issue with how they keep killing characters off in this universe. Pretty soon, there won't be any villains left.

    I like some New 52 stuff like Green Lantern, Justice League, and Batman, but overall, it sucks.

      GL new52 imo was really bad. When it was under Geoff Johns it was selling higher than Batman at one point (during his Blackest Night arc). Geoff did the first arc or two for New52 and then Robert Venditti drove it face first into the ground.

      I actually quit reading it after Geoff left. I didn't like where Venditti was headed with it. He managed to make Hal Jordan and the GLC one of my favorite Rebirth titles, though.

      Honestly I haven't given Rebirth GL by Venditti a chance. I'll admit it. His New52 GL turned me off so much. I'll download the first arc on Comixology and see if it's worth it.

  I hate to feed the negative environment if I can help myself, but I've felt this lukewarm about most of DC's recent animated movies.
  Don't understand why people hype them up so much; especially when you start seeing everyone say, 'THIS is how you do a good comic book adaptation, get it together DCEU'. lol
