'Justice League' beats 'Thor: Ragnarok' for #1 spot on Blu-ray/DVD sales charts

Thor: Ragnarok may have beat Justice League at the box office, but Zack Snyder's superhero movie won the home video fight last week.

Variety reports that Justice League was #1 on both the NPD VideoScan overall disc sales chart, which tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray Disc unit sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc chart. Thor: Ragnarok, which hit Blu-ray on March 6th, came in at #2.

70% of Justice League customers bought the movie on Blu-ray and 12% went for the 4K Blu-ray. Justice League is available at Amazon now, and you can check out my full review of the Blu-ray here.

        After the movie came out most of the general audience disliked it, and it made less than Thor at the Box Office, you said you still thought it was a fun movie. However, a few weeks afterwards, once the further disappointing news such as the "WB execs rushed for bonuses" reports came out you switched and started disliking it.... I'd have to do some digging but I'm sure I can find your comments to prove this if I really looked These guys are right, leading up to the film and first weekend of release, all DCEU fans liked it, said it was Snyder's plan along to do a fun light hearted film. You guys didn't start calling it Josstice League until a week or two after.

        So in other words, they like Snyder’s movies because their Snyder’s, and they recognize and appreciate his work, not because of any other factor, and especially not because of RT. Thank you for proving my point and contradicting your own in the same sentence.
        But anyway, I can’t speak for anyone else who is a fan of BvS, necessarily, but I do know from my own personal tastes and attitudes on this subject that it is very much an issue of liking what I perceive as quality movies and not caring about what the critics think. I genuinely do believe the critics are biased - Snyder or no - and fact think it is a pretty difficult thing for anyone to deny at times, to be quite honest. I genuinely try to never let the numbers on RT influence my opinions, and that is why I rarely use the site if I have the choice. I honestly hold to all the things I preach about as best as I can, so please don’t doubt any of that.

    well...it may be primarily scenes that were originally shot by SNyder, but a lot of those scenes were still changed. Whether it be editing, dialogue, or stuff being removed . In the scene where Clark takes Lois back to the farm and says that bizarre dialogue "you smell good" to which Clark responds "did i not before", if you look very closely, you can actually see that this is not what the actors' mouths are saying. Those lines were dubbed in.

If you are taking WB's money for work done as a director, and letting them title you as director on the film without fighting to take it off, it is your film.

Why do you think Whedon didn't drop out when Feige was breathing down his neck during AoU's production? A director cannot simply tell a studio off during the middle of production.         LOL....They have removed director's names on films plenty of time. Ted Griffin was directing Rumor Has It, and was fired in filming and replaced by Rob Reiner. His name is not on the picture as director.

        One liners and comedy were not what made the movie mediocre. The Avengers had plenty of those, and it was a homerun. What ruined the movie were things that are common in other Snyder movies:
        -A poor story (BvS had a convoluted plot with unecessary subpplots)
        -Lack of character development (Superman had a bland character arc in BvS and MoS. Character interactions in BvS were subpar)
        -Pacing (BvS and MoS had pacing issues)
        -Chaotic CGI action (Doomsday battle, Zod battle)
        -A crappy villain (Lex and Doomsday. Zod was arguably mediocre as well)
        See? All JL problems were also BvS and MoS problems. And yet you're blamming Whedon? Cool story bro.
        Sorry, but you're not fooling anyone who knows about movies and is familiar with Zack's and Whedon's work.

      In the comics, Batman is not that far behind Lex in terms of intelecct, and lex is not at all a detective.
      In the movie which is more realistic than the comics, lex is no where near as smart as his comic book counterpart, and is still not a detective.
      Which makes batman even more of a chump.

        In the movie, Bruce is an aged, drug addled alcoholic with severe emotional trauma and a sordid violent past. I thought it was an interesting version of the character. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit.

        It does make lex appear smarter than the others whe he using technology and his access to do things they aren't. As a audience member I respected the fact they didn't use the God's eye view (which some could say is lazy writing) of how lex found out about Kal-el, it was something we had to figure out alongside lois, who was the only one who realized lex had orchestrated all the goings on from the shadows.

      I hated the editing. At least in MoS he had a flow going. BvS, it was like one new flashcard scene after another with nothing tying one scene to the next. It was a convoluted story, and he didn't even know how to glue it together.

        He kills because to him that is the only way to motivate his main character to change. It is ridiculous, and like MARTHA, a cheap plot device. He is not intellectually a thinker like say Nolan. His movies, I have watched probably 100 times and I still pick up little nuances, shout outs to comics, etc each time I watch it. Snyder is nowhere near that level.

  I bought it and only watched it once. While the additional scenes made the story a little more coherent, they also made the movie boring and overlong. It didn't improve the movie experience but all the opposite. Not worth the 3 hours.
  WB was smart not to release that cut in theaters. Not only it was very tedious but it would have had less screenings due to the longer run time. It would've been financial suicide.

  But I can see how people that don’t like dark, graphic novel type films wouldn’t enjoy.
  Especially the extended cut because even though the film actually makes sense with the Ultimate Cut, it doesn’t do anything to brighten the film up and in that way it just extends the darkness by making it longer.

        Snyder was trying to mesh the Frank Miller story with The Death of Superman. They should have been handled separately, with better character development.
        It wouldn't matter though even if it was split into two movies, Snyder has proven he is incapable of delivering a movie where the characters are fully fleshed-out, and with intellectual reasons behind why Batman wants to end Superman.
        Batman is one of my favorite DC characters, and it is a shame Snyder made Superman out to more of a Batman, than Batman. We can only be thankful at this point his reign was cut short or we would have destroyed more DC characters down the road. He and his wife had their grand plans for the DCEU.

        Plus plenty of people have gained notoriety off fan edits. Ever hear of Adywan for his Star Wars Revisited stuff? Or the many fans who released "restored" versions of the Original Trilogy without special edition add ons?

  The Richard Donner cut of Superman II only exists because of fans, so I don't see why they wouldn't do the same for Justice League.

    WB didn't only release the Richard Donner cut of Superman II in 2006, but also the 188min extended cut of Superman 1978 recently (in 2017).

      The TV edition was cool to see, but I can definitely understand why a lot of the material was cut. A lot of it slowed the pacing on the film down and just wasn't necessary.
      However, it was still cool to see in HD regardless and I'm glad it got released.
      Hopefully, they'll release the Three hour television cut of Superman II next. The scene where Non kills a child and Ursa retorts how he'll never be a man with a smile was freaking cold.

  It didn't make bank because of its predecessor. We already agreed on that, if bvs was liked by the audience and was a hit, justice league probably would've cross the billion mark, regardless of the content.

        It's shaky because he wants to show you how Superman is super fast (and a human can barely follow him), he also adds zoom effects in order to show you how Superman can see far away (and you don't with your human eyes), those are techniques in filmmakings. You are used to see Whedon tv series where the characters are... talking in a room.
        About the color, like it or not, it's his style. He wanted to create a more serious Superman. Some people like it, some people don't, you don't.

        The shaky cam was done to add realism and the only thing it did is annoy people. It looked horrible and unfitting for a CBM and there were plenty of complaints about it.
        TDK had a lot more realism and the camara didn't seem to be held by someone with Parkinson's disease. It was a poor choice by Snyder.
        As for the color, instead of him making the movie bleak because that's his style, he should have understood the character he was making. Superman is about hope and the movie had a depressing tone. Again very unfitting.
        Now take a look at how Patty Jenkins uses color (they also talk about Snyder's use of color):

        You're proving his point with that pic.
        With Zack gone there will be no need for heavy reshoots with limited time and budget, thus you won't see things like the CGI mustache. Remember WB's displease with Snyder's cut was the cause of all the reshoots.
        You will also see movies with better character development and more comic accuracy.
        Sounds like a win-win situation for any CB fan.

        They've reshoot JL, they've reshoot Suicide Squad before, they won't stop butchering movies and add more silly jokes in order to copycat the Marvel formula even if it will never satisfy the critics. Don't be suprised if the Aquaman movie will feel weird with forced jokes... nah who I am talking to? You like anal probe and thirsty jokes.

        Reshoots are normal. Marvel does reshoots all the time. But they have a capable man on top foreseeing everything.
        What WB needs to do is to hire top notch filmmakers.
        It's not a coincidence that WW was directed by Patty Jenkins and BvS by Snyder.

        Reshoots may be normal, but in this case (and Suicide Squad), it's literally butchering, you can feel it when you watch the movie.
        How many movies Disney has intensively reshoot ? I only remember Rogue One (which isn't even a Marvel movie).
        How many directors WB has changed? I only remember Edgar Wright for Ant-Man. WB is hiring Ava DuVernay, but why Rick Famuyiwa quit Flash again? She will quit for the same reasons.

        SS was a different story. I remember hearing rumors that the initial cut was superior to the final product. With JL it was all the opposite. There were reports about it being terrible. There were also reports of later screenings testing better than earlier ones, so the movie was most likely improved. The final product had better critic and audience reception than BvS.
        Marvel has changed directors several times, but they are not director oriented so it doesn't matter. They have Feige. WB on the other hand is director oriented, so unlike Marvel, they do need to hired top notch directors.
        When you hire the guy who made Sucker Punch to be the architect of your universe you can't expect top quality movies.

        That frame of Kryptonite-crazed Luthor kissing Waller looks weird because of the art style (they did the best they could to capture McGuinness' already cartoony style, but those animated movies have serious budget limitations). It's supposed to be a very out of character behavior/moment.

The jaded, entitlement-minded fans of today will never know the wonder one gets seeing a lifelong dream of cinematic portrayal of childhood Silver Age comic heroes. To me ALL comic book movies, both Marvel and DC are spectacular. Different screen adaptations remind me of when comic titles would change artist/writer teams, and we'd get to see a new take on the characters. Why can't people just relax and be entertained?
