Last week it was announced that Ava DuVernay would direct New Gods for Warner Bros. and DC Comics and the director isn't wasting any time in preparing for her new job.
DuVernay posted the image above in an Instagram Story tonight. It's a page from "The New Gods #1" which was released on February 3rd, 1971. We don't know anything else about this movie right now other than DuVernay being on board to direct it. Stay tuned to Batman News for more info as we get it.

Awesome. I'm cautiously optimistic about this film.
even with Disney at her side Ava DuVernay may have made one of the worst book to screen adaptations I have seen in quite sometime. Now WB is asking her to adapt another unfilmable project. Are we living in Bizaro World? She just doesn't have what it takes and wants to put her social message before the quality of the film.
Cautiously? Did you not read that part. Her work is for the most part good which is why I am cautiously optimistic even with a Wrinkle in Time.
Well from what I have heard, its hard to completely blame her for it. It's was considered and extremely difficult book to adapt for one thing, and wasn't completely "her" film. It was Disney's movie. The script was already made and what not. She was just hired to direct. We will see how this goes
Can someone help me, what exactly is this story about? I don't know much about comic books. Is it something like GoT? Is there a lot of potential?
It is not. Do not worry yourself with things that will displease you in the future, my child. In order to avoid such disappointment and depression altogether, all you will need to do is google "Avengers: Infinity War" and you will know all you need to know.

That panel above would have been the fall of Asgard in Kirby's imagination. Then the New Gods arose on two worlds: a good one, New Genesis, led by Highfather, and a hellish one, Apokolips, led by Darkseid. To seal a peace treaty between them, Highfather and Darkseid exchanged their sons, Orion and Scott Free (Mister Miracle). It goes from there. The omnibus Edition DC recently published connects about 35 comics and a graphic novel and runs over 900 pages.

Okay, I’ll admit, even though I think it’s weird for them to be making a New Gods movie right now, picturing a scene for the movie like this is really sweet.

nobody has any idea when this movie will come. Tbf, Superman got a movie. Yes we all want MoS2, but im just saying...he DID get a movie. Flash I am thinking will target a 2020 release. That is my guess at least.
Flashpoint will come out February 14th, 2020 and the Batman will come out June 5th, 2020. Those are the two movies to come out right after Wonder Woman next November. The Batman should start shooting really late this year or very beginning of next. Flashpoint will start shooting probably in August/September. Hopefully Green Lantern Corps comes out after the Batman in a fall/winter 2020 slot.
Flashpoint already has directors attached and is rumor to start filming 2020.As for MOS 2, It's about time to let it go.WB isn't retarded enough to waste another $370 million + budget after the failure MOS was.
I think they should make MOS 2 with a 150-175 million production budget. Metallo and parasite should be villains. The entire movie takes place in Metropolis only. It should be a character driven movie where Henry Cavill gets to show his acting chops and be absolutely charming to the nth degree. Make the audience fall in love with Metropolis, Superman, his supporting characters( including Jimmy Olsen) so that by the end of the movie, the audience can't wait to revisit Metropolis again. Then in MOS 3, you raise the budget and bring in Brainiac.
i get people wanting a superman movie like that, but personally I really want something bigger and different like Brainiac or Mongul. It will have been so long since a proper superman movie, I think they should just go big with the next one. Honestly I am a bit disappointed they are already using Brainiac on the Krypton series. They shouldnt have to resort to a tv show for such a huge and important villain
But we just got an alien invasion in JL (poorly handled, but I digress).
If (and that's a big IF) MOS2 ever sees the light of day, I, too, would love a character-driven movie that dives into Clark's psyche where he deals with more personal matters and human affairs vs. another large-scale threat.
We have yet to see a Superman film where Superman is forced to intervene in REAL-LIFE matters like war, famine, crime, poverty, etc. and that's what I'd love to see MOS2 tackle.
in a simpler time I would probably be fine with that but this is not a simpler time and it just sounds slightly boring to me. I think they need to get AWAY from that kind of stuff and just give us an awesome story featuring the man of steel. People need to see that Superman is more than just...you know...supermaning. Idk. Depends on who the villain/s are I guess. And it doesn't have to be an alien invasion. Not on Earth at least. They could totally have MoS2 take place somewhere else. Brainiac and Mongul are cosmic threats. Wouldn't it be awesome to see Superman get captured and sent to warworld to fight in gladiator matches or something?
I'd say "Yes" to a Warworld/Superman: Exile type storyline if Thor: Ragnarok didn't get to it first. I can just imagine the "YOU RIPPED OFF MARVEL" responses that would get and it wouldn't be worth it.
Man of Steel 2 NEEDS to take place on Earth. It's about time that the characters get to be who they're meant to be. The whole point of the MOS/BVS/JL Superman trilogy was to develop Clark into becoming the Superman we all know and now that that's done (with a sad bump in the road), it's time for Superman to be... well... Superman.
I don't think it'd be boring at all. If anything, it's what people have been itching to see. But instead of just your every Superman tale where Superman faces some muscle or businessman like a Metallo/Luthor combo, it should be Superman taking on real-world issues which would make a very relatable morality tale and those are where some of the best Superman stories come from.
A straight up adaptation of "What's So Funny about Truth, Justice and the American Way" would be PERFECT for MOS2.
*sigh*...ya the damn Thor Ragnarok thing was also my one concern with the Warworld thing. Its my concern with A LOT of potential DC projects. No way JL vs Darkseid will ever make nearly as much money as Infinity War most likely will. Maybe enough time will have passed by then people are ready for another story like that. Hopefully.
But anyways, I still think it would be fine though simply because its Superman. Superman is an icon and everybody knows the character. Most people are not going to claim that anything about him is ripping off marvel, even it does have similar story elements. WW being set in WW1 did not stop it form begin a huge success. Ya "some" people went on about how it was a rip off of a first Avenger, but we dont generally listen to those people.
I just want an awesome scifi type story like the first man of steel. I loved that. Its actually what originally got me INTO superman in the first place. I was introduced to a whole different flavor of the Superman mythos that I had never been exposed to before. I really dont want to lose that awesome scifi feel that MoS had. Give me some epic battle at least between Supes and Metallo or Cyborg Superman or something.

Oh, Then where is MOS 2?.....WW2 was announced like a month later cause it was success.While still no news about MOS2 cause wb isn't retarded enough to waste $370 million+ on Superman again.$688 million box office for a movie that cost them $370 million+ is the definition of failure.It failed to earn back it's investment let alone generate a profit.They had to bring in their most profitable superhero Batman in follow up, Spend three years to develop BvS, Hired new writer to correct the failure MOS was.

Well...this would set them apart from marvel by giving this mythology it's own movie before actually having them face off with the justice league. It's pretty big/deep lore
I agree. I think New Gods would've been a good first movie with which to start things off, but that doesn't matter now. I'm excited for it anyway. It's a neat story to tackle, and I hope DuVernay can put a good movie together.
i think teasing them in JL was a fine move. Its more that it would be a good idea to familiarize people with the mythos before they decide to REALLY go full force with the new gods vs JL in something similar to DC's Infinity War.
Just because you only watch Disney movies, it doesn't mean that Disney invented movies or even superhero movies.

Look, I am not trying to be mean, but going from past experience, The New Gods were a very high concept story (especially the older Jack Kirby stories because the man couldn't really write relatable, down to earth characters) so I see a LOT of headbutting in the future between the director wanting a more nuanced high concept movie and the studio wanting a more digestible popcorn flick for the general masses (something in the vain of transformers, by having a human main character and having more than half the film take place in New York or something) to the point where the whole project might eventually implode.
It’s actually good, that she reads Kirby’s work. Hope she ignores every New52/ Rebirth versions of the characters.

Instead of spending time researching & getting the best person for the job DC & WB are literally waiting for a random director to get in touch on twitter & just giving them the job. It's embarrassing. This is why Aquaman & Flash together went through about 7 directors.
I don't know who pulls the strings at WB/DC but we deserve better.
if a director is talented and shows interest in a project, I dont see anything wrong with the studio pursuing them. I mean in a lot of ways, isn't that a fairly smart thing to do? I would love it if they reached out to Alex Garland since he recently mentioned on reddit that he wanted to tackle Swamp Thing.

Did she? Maybe I missed it but I dont remember her doing that, the only one who did that was for the Batgirl movie. It's also safe to assume that she was talking to WB long before a month ago, and they've never given anyone the directorship based on a Twitter exchange.

I know Flash has been through a couple of them, and I apologize beforehand if I'm mistaken, but who are these 7 directors? The Flash has been through only three direstors (Lord and Miller count as one), so by your number that means Aquaman has been through 4 directors. I just dont remember anyone else but James Wan being given the reins to this movie.

No, it's not safe to say. DC have shown they have no idea what they are doing. I have no evidence to believe they had spoken before hand. Look at all the directors leaving DC movies in the last 4 years. Remember certain actors going to DC headquarters hinting at playing character & then never seen again - DC pushed those images.
Flash has had 3 directors & 2 different story ideas & then cancelled what would have been a Flash movie released last week for a reboot flashpoint, Aquaman had been pushed back & James Wan nearly left. JL lost a director & was re-written, Cyborg was slated & removed along with Green Lantern, SS2, GCS, Ben Afflecks Batman, then The Batman.
I'm sure the list could go on of DC/WB fuck ups but it's clear they are useless. Which upsets me so much.

Key word "about". Flash had 3, Aquaman got Wan & then for ages it looked like he was leaving, to the point where he posted pics on his twitter of wall at DC saying he was still there. So not far off.
3 is less than half of 7. If you're going to spitball a number then at least be closer than 50%.

doesnt look bad imo. It easy to forget that most of the gods look like..well people. I actually found this a nice blend of how they look in the comics combined with a bit of an otherworldly nature.

Doomsday's CGI was fine. The design was the only problem even though I didn't really take much issue with it since it made sense given the context

She's done some great stuff on a smaller budget, but holy cow... Did anyone see A Wrinkle in Time? It's one of the worst movies I've seen in literally years. Recent choices in the DCEU haven't given me too much to be excited about, but this one should worry everyone.
