Zack Snyder's perfect response about the 'Justice League' deleted scenes

Yesterday Zack Snyder posted a nice photo of himself and his wife in honor of Valentine's Day on the social media app Vero. Of course, many fans leaving comments were more interested in talking about Justice League instead.

One fan asked Snyder if he watched the Justice League deleted scenes, likely referring to the two Superman scenes that were released on Digital HD the night before. Snyder's response was perfect.

"First off I shot them," Snyder said. "Also I've been seeing them everywhere (in a good way), so yes."

Snyder probably shot deleted scenes that we haven't even heard about yet. A lot of his footage was removed in favor of the new scenes that Joss Whedon wrote and to hit the 2 hour runtime mandate that Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara imposed.

I honestly think the guy just wants to get away from the whole thing.

And I'm pretty sure most everybody else is ready to move on as well. JL flopped. That's it. Time to move on to new and (god I hope) better things. Next up, Aquaman.

      Yeah I'm not European or White, so I'd rather take a quick and I imagine painless death by Doomsday, over being tortured and eventually killed in a concentration camp by Hitler's goons any day. You wouldn't be persecuted and would adopt the Nazi way of life if Hitler had won, don't deny it, you would have no other choice. Watch Man In the High Castle, you would've been like a lot of the white Americans that ended up becoming part of the Reich.

      Okay, first of all we no nothing about WW involvement (or lack of) in WW2. That one line in BvS doesn't preclude zero involvement in WW2.
      Second, we don't even know if there WAS a WW2 in this universe after the events of Wonder Woman, considering she destroyed Ares who was credited as sharing at least half the responsibility behind WW1, and even if there was some sort of conflict we don't know if it would be equivalent to what we had in real life, whether Hitler even rose to power, etc.
      Too many assumptions, considering very little is known about that time period in the DCEU.

    I'm fine with change providing its still respectful of the comics hence why i'm fine with the stuff Nolan changed for Batman or hell even Snyder changing Zod's character so much in MoS. Anyway out of those 75 years we haven't had much in the way of DC films beyond Batman and Superman and even then the Batman films never really gave us comic Bats and his world, it also took us until 2016 before Supes and Bats shared screen time in a live action film. Really a fresh new idea for DC films is actually giving us the characters like their comic counterparts and films based on amazing stories what would work really well in a live action film.

      As a fan of the comics, I thought it was perfectly respectful.
      I just don't think it adapted everything that most people wanted to see yet -- which is funny, because just a decade ago, what everyone demanded to see from Superman was what we got in MoS and BvS, but the times changed before we got it and now everyone wants something different. :P
      MoS calls back to books like Birthright and Krypton, BvS calls deeply to Peace on Earth, The Death of Superman, and The Dark Knight Returns.
      Things are cherry picked from different adaptations and transformed into something new and fresh, but that doesn't mean the source material is being disrespected.
      It's all been lovingly considered and retold as something familiar but also original to itself - the same thing Nolan's (and Burton's) Batman movies did, but during a time where people were more willing to accept that kind of creative freedom -- which, in my opinion (and Zod's portrayal is an example), often leads to improvements, and that helps the franchise evolve to greater heights.
      One of my favorite things lifted from the comics by Snyder and Goyer is this quote from Jor-El. It comes from All-Star Superman and was reworded a bit for Man of Steel.

      Here's a snippet from Goyer that describes another moment I love from MoS that was adapted from a comic:
      
      In his 2010 introduction to Superman: Secret Origin, the collected edition of writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank’s retelling of Superman’s origin, David S Goyer, observed that:
      There is a heart breaking moment halfway through the first chapter [of Secret Origin] in which young Clark is told the truth about his heritage. He races out into the night, sobbing. Eventually, Jonathan Kent] finds him. ’I don’t want to be someone else… I don’t want to be different. I want to be Clark Kent. I want to be your son.’ Right there in that moment, Geoff contextualized Superman in a way that I’m not sure has ever really been done before.
      I truly don't see the lack of respect.

MoS does nto call back to Birthright at all....Superman in Birthright was nothing like Cavill's interpretation. BvS does not call back to Peace on Earth at all, it completely wasted the Death of Superman storyline and only took the visuals from TDKR, missing the point of the story.

      It looks like you're more focused on the differences and absences.
      To that, I can only say something like, "Try to learn to accept the differences and absences because this isn't a strict adaptation, but a sampling of familiar things into a new, different thing that combines great elements of those older things; and then with that realization, try to appreciate the nods to those things in a new way and let it be it's own world".
      Maybe that wasn't as articulate. lol
      Basically, the movies have their own universe, so I embrace creative freedom and don't feel like any critical lines have been crossed that betray the hearts of the characters. In fact, I very much enjoy that they are fallible (but, importantly, also redeemable thereafter), and are facing deeper challenges than we're used to. The whole point of heroes in writing is to teach us how to pick ourselves up - and falling is a big part of that (almost quoting Batman Begins).
      People seem to be being over-dramatic with storytelling devices that edge us (intentionally) to an intense, uncomfortable place, and even moreso impatient with character arcs. I feel this is unfair.
      I'm boggled that you don't see how similar Peace on Earth in particular is to elements of Batman v Superman, but I recall you being
      pretty inconvincible, so I'll leave you with this brief sort-of olive branch toward my point of view instead of one of my typical back and forth essay battles. haha

      I don't mind differences and absences at all, but they should keep the core of the story intact. They reduced the death of superman arc to a 5 minute attack against a cavetroll. They didn't do doomsday justice, and the plot was so busy trying to setup the rivalry between Superman and Batman, that there was not enough time to invest in Superman as a character. His death carried no weight at all.
      Likewise with TDKR...Snyder just took the suit, that's about it. He didn't seem to understand the friendship the two had or why they were fighting, and even if you want to defend the Martha moment, it could have been executed a hell of a lot better. Like Superman's death , there was no real emotional weight to those scenes. There is a reason it is the butt of jokes.
      I also don't think these choices showed our heroes facing deeper challenges than we are used to. I mean....what challenges? Batman acted profoundly out of character by not doing any investigation and just deciding to murder Superman, despite the world apparently being divided on him because he has done so much good. We never saw Bruce's thought process, we just saw him angry and determined to kill.
      Peace on Earth was about Superman trying to solve unsolvable problems like World Hunger and fascist dictators who have the support of the people. Literally no plot point in BvS was similar to any plot point in BvS. He was in the African county to rescue Lois, that's it, and going around the world saving people from natural disasters is not an attempt to save them from abstract problems.
      I think Snyder took visual elements and nothing else, and the movie suffered for it.

      Yeah he was, MoS Zod actually had a great deal of depth and was implied he didn't like what he was doing and was doing it purely because he was basically programmed too from birth to protect Krypton at all costs. Comic Zod on the other hand while a great villain i love is pretty one note for the most part, he quite enjoys killing, hates Superman and Earth and only wants Krypton reborn if he's the ruler of it. There's no really hidden depth to him unlike MoS Zod.

      I know you mean a more direct, straight adaptation of one story all the way through, but BvS is definitely heavily inspired by the comics in general, adapting bits of things from here and there and transforming them into something new (which is what I personally prefer from the movies).
      The most obvious are The Dark Knight Returns and The Death of Superman, but perhaps the most integral comic influence is one of my absolute favorite Superman books (by Paul Dini, featuring Alex Ross, both complete legends): Superman: Peace on Earth.

      I agree, with everything you said. And it's a shame that other people don't get Snyder's vision. I could tell he was really in his element in those first two movies. I really like them both. Now, after the travesty WB made JL into , abandoning Snyder's story, prett, BvS doesn't make any real sense. I mean, the dream sequence, for instance, and real meaning. It was suggesting an epic, multi-part story. Now it's just some random seeing that doesn't make any sense.
      What was done to JL told me that the halcyon days of comic book adaptations is over.

    Different isn't good for the fact that it is different. Over 75 years of stories, yet basic characterizations and their underlying philosophies have emerged as constants. 75 years of stories and character arcs to pull from and Snyder is STILL struggling to piece together a good, coherent one.       I'm not interested in Sucker Punch, so I can't speak for it, but The Owls of Ga'Hoole wasn't a bad film. :P It was fine.
      Just because something isn't a masterpiece doesn't make it bad.
      I wonder if I've just seen a lot more stuff over the years, but I'm aware of so many actually, seriously bad films, that it blows my mind that people think mediocre/okay films are "bad".
      It's such an over-dramatic exclamation with even a basic understanding of true good and bad in film history.
      People do this with women, too - especially actresses. If someone isn't photoshop levels of supermodel hot with gigantic breasts, they're called "ugly" by tons of dudes. It's just unrealistic and exaggerated to hell. :P
      Even Batman & Robin, while probably a "stupid" film, doesn't really qualify as "bad". There's still value there, and it can be watched and enjoyed by lots of people. We just don't like it because it's embarrassing as comic fans who take the subject matter more seriously.
      Same deal with Adam West's Batman, which was just as corny and cringey, but was a phenomenon at the time; still beloved by many.
      The standard for "bad" these days is 100% whack.

So basically we learned something we already knew. I don't like much of Snyder's DC input beyond parts of MoS but i do agree both scenes were great and should have been in the final film, the suit one especially as it explains how Supes has a shiny nice suit already when he turns up to help the League.

Exactly...that hate extends far beyond Snyder's work...2011 Green Lantern movie for example. The WB execs ruined it. They don't care about the source material. Whatever they think will earn the most money. I am sure most of them have already sold off their own mother's for a quick buck.

    I wouldn't say it was that faithful, Reynolds while ok performance wise was miscast as Jordan and both villains were very different to their comic selves, Waller also felt like a different character as well. GL problems was it had very weak action, awful effects with Hal's suit looking really bad, 2 villains what are pretty bad with one being one of the worst in a comic book film and terrible pacing what was rushed but at times felt slow, they also shouldn't have started the film with a massive exposition drop what would put people off.

      Not to mention, it was a mirror of JL, as it was re-written during filming (WB execs meddling) and the team that does the CW DCTV of writers were brought in to "fix it." I believe they even brought in Geoff, much like what happened with Snyder. They blew their budget (again, because of the WB execs) and so instead of having the team of GL's battle Parallax (much like the comics would do) in the end, they only had enough money for Hal to battle alone. It was a mess. I don't fault Ryan Reynolds. Can you image trying to stay in character during the rewrites and squables during filming?

      Ehh, I'd prefer if there was a friendship or a history between Hal and Sinestro first but I do agree that Parallax was an awful choice.
      Sadly they made that mistake again with Steppenwolf.

      The original comics Parallax (corrupted evil Hal Jordan) was even worse than the movie Parallax, and you're right, it should never have been used in the movie. We agree with using the GL movie to set up Sinestro as a badass Lantern in order to make him fall in the sequel (and save Star Sapphire for the 3rd film), but we're not sure who would have been good to pair with Hector Hammond.
      But the Parallax they gave us? Smoke monsters never work; take our word for it.

      Agreed. WB did what they proceeded to do with BvS (Doomsday), and almost did with Snyder's cut in JL (Darkseid,) shot their wad to soon with such large villains before setting up a foundation of character development. Exploring the relationship between Sinestro and Hal is still being explored today in the comics. Which is why I always say, WB doesn't care about the source material. Whatever the next best writer/director pitches that sounds like a money maker to them, they are all over it, DC characters be damned.

      Wrong again. He is DEADPOOL and that is still my favorite superhero movie to date. Even with the low budget, he turned it out. I am hoping Aquaman will be my new favorite superhero movie, as it is my favorite comic character....but we will see.

    Snyder had full control over BvS, that was his film in every way and all WB done to it was take half hour off so they had a PG-13 rating and a run time more appealing for audiences, that film though played a major part in everything what happened after it so yeah Snyder is a major person to blame because if that film was a major hit and well liked from both critics and audiences then WB wouldn't have panicked what meant SS would have been more like it was meant to be, JL would be a "Snyder Cut" still and JL2 will be on the verge of starting to get made along with a standalone Batman film starring and maybe directed by Affleck.

I agree. Zack Snyder does NOT get enough blame for Justice League, AT ALL. How dare his fans defend him, by expressing their displeasure with not getting to see his full version of Justice League, AFTER the BvS Ultimate Edition had already proved WB wrong, for forced edits. I was watching the movie last night and I noticed how horribly edited the reshoot was put when Bruce goes to Barry's place and he says the whole "stop right there, Im' in" you can tell up to that point that was ZS footage, then it cuts to Barry talking about the word "brunch", it looks so cheap, different hair texture, even the sound sounds from ADR, not from set. You can tell it was a forced joke in there. I honestly didn't watch the whole movie since I was tired, but also because NOW I can see Joss' hand in this...and frankly... it's horrible work.

Joss was brought in to try and hodge-podge a re-written script six months before release, all orchestrated by the WB execs. It was still being worked on weeks before the deadline. Joss is a good writer and director, and this was not his film. He was carrying out a quick edit job on the studio's orders, which is why he is not listed as director. If you are going to dig at that edits, steer your hate at WB. They never learn.

    In AoU he was fighting Perlmutter and the creative committee. He had to make compromises. The first Avengers movie came out great and is still the highest grossing comic book film ever.

I truly despise you DC purists reducing Snyder fans in the comments into mindless fanboys. Personally, what I like is interesting ideas, and while Zack's work in these films could've probably done with better execution, it's the presence of those ideas and connecting these characters through them that truly fascinates me, and I'm sure most Snyder fans feel the same way.

What truly bothers me, is that while I hear some legitimate criticism of his execution of these ideas, most of the rage seems to be directed at the ideas themselves, saying they "deviate" somehow from the source material and that they are "unfaithful" to the comics. Instead, you purists simply fail to realize that these ideas really only serve to elevate these characters and make them inhabit a richer, more complex and interesting world. It enriches the mythology of the source material. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

  In the DCEU, Superman shows up on Earth more than 20 years after Batman's crusade begins, when in the comics both Superman & Batman are typically the same age and begin their heroic efforts virtually in the same year. They're constantly shaping each others understanding of the world and seemingly have a mutually beneficial relationship in the comics.
  They represent 2 basic elements of the DC Universe; light and darkness. Now since they show up simultaneously in the comics, they balance each other out.
  However, in the DCEU, the darkness arrives first, with no counterbalance of light, i.e the dark knight fights evil by embracing the darkness to inflict fear into the hearts of those who rule by fear over the innocent (a risky proposition) way before Superman shows up. This is interesting because we can see if Bruce's ideals and the symbol of Batman are truly incorruptible, given this change in initial conditions which have been constant in the comics.
  The notion is that in a world with no beacon of hope, with no Superman to fight for good in the light, Batman's ideals have no moral anchor. No matter how much Bruce Wayne may dissociate himself from the Batman persona, eventually with enough personal loss and tragedy (loss of Jason Todd as one example), the darkness that he embraces and flirts with so dangerously to make the symbol of Batman work eventually cracks him and begins to muddy his worldview, making him disillusioned and begins to corrupt his soul, or as Ben Affleck put it, "pushes him to the brink of moral bankruptcy". It makes him think his efforts have been hopeless, makes him less surgical in his methods and more reckless in endangering lives, albeit those of bad guys.
  This idea that Batman gets more brutal with age is supported even in the JLU animated series, and in Flashpoint Paradox, we have evidence of a world where all the typically "good" characters are darker when there is no Beacon of Hope present, aka Superman. This includes a Batman with very loose moral principles.
  The idea that the symbol of Batman and Bruce Wayne's moral code can only be incorruptible and survive in a world with Superman to provide the foundation to which he must anchor his hope is powerful, and adds value to Superman as a character in the DC universe, but also adds vulnerability to Bruce Wayne, which is beautiful. You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain... unless Superman exists. Wow.
  That was just ONE of many ideas permeating BvS alone. There's your "style over substance".

    I viewed the Martha moment in a similar way; a point of introspective clarity for Bruce.Yes, it's the moment that humanizes Superman, a being he's been dehumanizing from the beginning of the film. But more importantly, as a result of Clark being humanized through the connection of having a human mother, Bruce realizes that he has gone so far down the deep end, that what he thought might be "the only thing he does that really matters" for Batman's legacy ends up making him the very monster that he wanted to destroy by becoming the Batman in the first place; the monster that took away his innocent mother, and he was about to do the same to Clark's mom by pulling the trigger on Clark, so to speak.
    From helpless boy, to the man with the gun who had a choice. In that moment, he could pull the trigger, thereby becoming that monster that ends Martha's life.. or he could stop, and let Martha live. The ultimate test for the soul of Bruce Wayne.

      Any death caused by Batman before the Martha scene were heat of passion and by proxy, not calculated murders. Killing Superman the way he intended would've been his first cold blooded murder. The Martha scene is merely a moment where he truly sees the path he is about to take and it's final moral destination.
      After that, for a Bruce Wayne plagued by survivor's guilt and not ever having a chance to save his mother, his goal is singular; you have a chance now that you never had before, to save Martha. Save her, at all costs. The Martha scene simply can't change his fighting technique right away, a fighting style which has evolved from precise and surgical to "IDGAF" unapologetic ruthlessness over the last many years as his moral foundation eroded away. Especially not when the stakes are so high. That can't change overnight. That's years of damage.
      Also, note that Batman was still quite restrained in the warehouse scene. There were multiple points in the fight where a deliberate killing shot would've been more effective than a restrained approach, yet he stayed restrained.

      Those are not satisfactory answers; it's impossible for the audience to credibly buy the "repentant killer" angle when on the very next scene he's killing people again, and blaming it on his muscle memory is as laughable as the Martha plot device. How does mowing down thugs with automatic aerial weapons on his very first vigilante interaction post-epiphany show restraint? How does smashing a 1½ ton crate on a guy's face show remorse for killing? And if he really was trying to save Martha "at all costs", then it shows he never really changed as a character at all... he just found a new justification for killing.
      I told you...there's not enough sheet to cover the feet of the inconsistencies in this movie...

      Well, he's NOT a "repentant killer" at that point in time. He's only really become aware of the monster he's been turning into, realizes that killing Superman would make him no different than Joe Chill and decides that he doesn't want to be that monster. But that awareness itself can't instantly transform him back into the ideal non-killing Batman, like he's broken free from some magic spell or something. Human psychology is too complicated to reduce consciousness and actions into some light switch you can just turn on and off.
      Muscle memory would be the wrong term, *sub-personality* is more accurate. In psychology, sub-personalities are *personas* or *pieces* of the whole of the overall personality, which have a *life of their own*, beliefs, thoughts, feelings, intentions and agendas. This is why human beings can be internally conflicted and contradictory in nature.
      In psychotherapy, getting rid of negative sub-personalities is not a simple task. It essential involves allowing that part of you to die so to speak, and that's a long, hard process, which involves introducing a new positive sub-personality to overwrite it as well. So Batman can't simply be a different person when he gets to the warehouse in an instant, not realistically at least, given these psychological restraints.
      Well, the instances you mentioned clearly don't show restraint, and I've now covered why he would still continue to behave like that. My point was there are other instances, where he could've been more lethal, but he wasn't. For example, when he enters the room from the floor beneath the thugs, he uses a weapon that can fire multiple projectiles onto the thugs' guns and disarm them with an explosive, yet he doesn't use such a weapon to hurt them more severely with the explosive charge, he just disarms them. Another instance is when he uses a grapple hook of sorts which pierces cleanly through the shoulder of a thug, when he could've aimed it a few inches away towards his heart and killed him, but he chose not to do that.

      Change of this magnitude is a layered process. Yes, he now has a somewhat articulated repugnance on a conscious level towards being this way, but he hasn't really changed in an actionable way, yet. This is attributed to the presence of sub-personalities as I mentioned earlier.

      The entire movie builds up to this moment, dramatizing and making a herculean effort to paint the climax of the fight as a pivotal moment in Batman's character; so profound that it immediately changed him, shaking the foundation of his ethos and stopping him from killing the alien he's prepared to kill for 2 years due to his passionately held belief that it was an absolute necesity...
      And all this is for nothing because, as we find, it doesn't really show any lasting impact on him, beyond him going to save his sworn enemy's mom because all this time he didn't think his victims had moms... Using "sub-personalities" to explain the characters' actions would be fine...if it was consistent. All it took to keep Batman from impaling Superman was to say "Save Martha"*... but it's not a "magic spell" he can break from, right? "Human psychology is too complicated to reduce consciousness and actions into some light switch you can just turn on and off", right?
      You're acting like him killing Luthor's thugs was just a spur of the moment, reactionary impulse reflex that he couldn't contain...he flew across town to save Martha, having enough time to devise a plan consistent with his newfound morals, yet from the get go, we can see NO discernible effort or sacrifice from him to avoid killing people. Using this convoluted mental logic about him not knowing how to "hero" without killing sounds nice, but it's not really employed in the movie. How nice would it have been for us to see Batman walking in with all these deadly weapons and gadgets he's developed over the years, yet going into the warehouse, determined not to use a single one of them to kill...seeing him get beaten to within an inch of his life, because he refuses to use lethal force. Seeing the birth of his legendary no-kill rule; giving true weight to the Martha scene by showing the real impact it had on him.
      Yet for all the selective frames you choose as evidence that he's making any level of conscious decision to not kill, he both starts AND finishes the warehouse scene by killing (along with everything in between, as the thug whose skull was splattered into the wall can attest to).
      Face it...no thought went into the warehouse scene to make it anything other than pure fan service, with no regard to the context of the character development at this point. You're trying hard to apply psychology theory into it, because it was sold as a deep film, as all DC movies are, belying it's illogical storytelling. It's not about humans being contradictory...It's about the movie being contradictory. Noble effort...but again, you just have to admit the movie is significantly flawed.

      all of what you said would make sense if ti wasn't so wrong. he didn't stop killing after the martha scene. he became a changed hero when superman sacrificed himself to save a world that had started to hate him. he became inspired by that sacrifice to be a better hero. and btw the deaths at the warehouse were still accidental. batman was aiming with batplane at the cars, and the guys standing on them had plenty of time ro get off and run. and guy was hit his head on the wall was also accidental. he ws only supposed to be hit y the box not slam his head in the wall. and the russians death is his fault. batman shot to the container to disabke the weapon, when the ruissian attempted to fire the flamethrower, it exploded.

      Batman knew it was gonna blow up; he jumped to protect Martha as soon as he pierced the tank. Which means he had every intention of killing him. There's no scenario where one shoots a fueled tank and doesn't expect it to blow up... though you're free to try.

So no he didn't have ther intention of killing him, if he did, he wouldn't have given him a choice and would have just shot him in the head like in the comic book.

      What? Every fact I mentioned was communicated in the movie. Now the implications of those facts are what I extrapolate from them.
      Superman showing up 20 years after Batman - It's in the movie.
      Superman & Batman typically beginning their heroic journeys in the comics around the same time - It's in the comics.
      Batman starting out idealistically in the DCEU in the beginning of his crusade - It's in the movie.
      Batman clearly conveyed as more reckless, disillusioned and cynical over in BvS than when he first started out, conveying a progression to moral bankruptcy - It's in the movie.
      The references I made to other DC works like JLU animated series and Flashpoint Paradox respectively setting a precedent of Batman becoming more brutal over time, as well as a darker Batman and darker DC universe in the absence of Superman - It's in the comics.
      All those things I stated can be verified to be true. That's not me making shit up. The rest, in terms of the relationship these facts depict between Batman and Superman, are a simple extrapolation supported by these facts. If you can't see it, well then there really is nothing left to be said. I suggest being open to ideas that might challenge your current verdict of the film, or at least certain elements of the film.

      If it can all be verified to be true, could you provide a source for some of your claims so we can verify them?
      I don't see the claims regarding the relationship as valid, and it's not because I don't get it, it's because I think you made a rather unsupported claim. Unsupported by the movie directly, as well as unsupported by any alleged inspirational material.
      I'm always open to ideas. But the people I always see defending BvS tend to read a lot into the film that simply isn't supported by the film itself.

      Bruce says to Alfred, when talking about his legacy, "20 years in Gotham, how many good guys are left? How many stayed that way?". Now that can't be some arbitrary period of time that Bruce pulls out of thin air, and given he's in his 40s, it's fair to assume it refers to his reign as the dark knight. It's surely been confirmed in interviews as well.

In Flashpoint Paradox, several major players are darker and more authoritarian in the absence of Superman, including Wonder Woman and Aquaman. The other JL members are even shocked to find that young Batman plays good cop to older Bruce's bad cop. And YES, you're right, this progression to ruthlessness happens IN A WORLD WITH SUPERMAN! So even with Superman around, peak Batman descends from using fear to interrogate without hurting anyone needlessly, to older Bruce who just beats the shit out you with a crowbar to get information. Imagine what happens to Bruce with NO Superman around.

      Fair point on the 20 years in Gotham thing. I didn't take that as referring explicitly to his career, but it's a very reasonable interpretation.
      As for Bruce being idealistic...maybe, but that doesn't mean he wasn't still a killer. Even the fact that the Robin costume was holding a deadly battle axe as his weapon indicates he was a much more violent incarnation when Robin was around.
      Interviews with the cast don't mean as much to me, I like in-universe evidence. They can be considered, but I don't take them as canon.
      I don't think it's fair at all to attribute a darker Batman to Superman's absence. Bruce was a child raised by Alfred, and children are very idealistic still. Thomas was a 40 year old man who lost his entire family. They were two very different people at different stages in their lives. Even if I acknowledge your point here, it isn't a valid argument for Bruce being darker in BvS sans Superman.
      And the JLU cartoon? Bruce is old and bitter, and more desperate, but still doesn't cross a line. Old Bruce comes nothing close to batfleck in terms of line crossing, and he still has his morals in place to mentor terry.
      I just don't buy your extrapolation that Superman is the light needed to keep Batman in check. I could give counter examples as well (which is what the cartoon is, it's not canon and is simply another take on the characters) such as Injustice, where Superman goes dark and Batman prevails regardless, or that issue of Superman/Batman where Grodd takes over earth after Superman leaves and Batman is the sole resistance....
      Which is not to say I think you are wrong, but I don't think you are right either. I respect your take and see it as a reasonable possibility, but it's not right to argue it is objectively correct and accuse others of 'not seeing it' if they disagree.

  Personally, I never had much complaints regarding execution either. I just think Zack's story needed a larger canvas, 3 hours quite frankly wasn't enough. It would've been better as a limited series, 10 one hour long episodes on HBO or Netflix, whichever gives Zack more control without worrying about going into R-Rated territory. That would've given him plenty of time to tackle the story sufficiently from Clark's, Bruce's & Lex's perspectives across multiple epsiodes. I think much of the criticism around character motivation would've also been non-existent if, in an ideal world, Zack could've gone this route.

Maybe even a flashback scene to his abuse as a child at the hands of Lex Sr, that would've been a brutal, emotional scene to sympathize with Lex's worldview. Flashbacks of the Jason Todd murder, showing us Bruce's heart-wrenching loss. So many possibilities...

      yeah i know, but is too artificial to be taken seriously, the continuity aspect of the mcu as a whole is not very well made (changes in actors, artificial, forced references like in Homecoming all the time or Loki turning into Captain America, rushed development and under development like SHIELD which they disarm after barely have introduced us to it) it feels very under cooked, so far the best thing to come out of the mcu is Daredevil season 1 and 2, by far, i could literally be hours talking about this, everybody likes to attack DC, and they certainly have reasons, but is not like the mcu did the same formula better, only a little more consinstent at the price of being dumb, simple, precitable and "humorous" (or so they try) movies targeted at really wide audiences, specially kids

      IM1 is ok, is too simple and light in tone (there is a comic book with Stane as a villain that is way better, by example) TWS is good, it needs more science fiction, but is an okay movie, Thor 1 and 2 all the stuff in Asgard is good ,the stuff on earth is terrible, it looks like two different movies, TFA is good and in that movie even the humor is not out of place but worked naturally into the story, Avengers is ok, too much out of character jokes (he is adopted) and it has not aged well at all, besides that they all have some good stuff in it (the atomic world in Ant-Man, thought Atom is better and the original lol, Nebula and Ego thought they changed him in GOTG2, seeing all the comic book armors in IM3, the Hela VS Valkyrias in Ragnarok) but overall yeah, they are awful, to put it simply: they are dumbed down comedies that have barely any resemblance to the comic books, that is the issue, they might work well for the general audiences, but they are totally unrelated to the comic books and their characters

      Don't even talk about IM1...That's a contender for one of the best Marvel movies out of the bunch. I have no idea what you mean by "is too simple and light in tone"...the movie matches the tone of the classic Ironman comics perfectly. It doesn't need to match one single comic book...as long as it captures the breadth of the character throughout it's history.

    I dont know why people say that bvs was meddled with, wb simply asked the movie to be 30 min shorter with reason, because having a 3hr movie would affect the box office especially if the movie is bad(which it was). I don't care about deviating from the source material. That has never been an issue for me. I care about Snyder bastardizing these characters by making them kill, making them into idiot buffoons like lex or consumed by rage like Bruce when it doesn't even make sense....and then to give us these archtypes without fleshing them out or developing, and just using them as puppets he can use to fight each other.
He doesn't have any ideas worth priasing IMO, just mindless half-baked concepts that don't amount to anything.

      Well, I'll tell you I'm somewhere between 27 and 33. I sitll don't see how age could have a factor into my opinions, not even a little bit though.
      I'm critical of Snyder as a director because as a viral video eloquently explained, he only seems to care about 'moments', not plot or character. Making Batman a murdered is unforgivable IMO and a betrayal of the character. And that's not an anti-Snyder thing, I had the same issues with a lesser extent to Nolan having Batman kill.

- What was the main problem of BvS ? movie’s bad scene-to-scene pacing, confused moral compass, mind-numbing action sequences, really on the nose thematic devices, or hinging key narrative scenes entirely on lame contrivances and finally adding a lot of non-related scenes(like adding doomsday) When it ought to have just focused on the two protagonists and dropped all of the supplementary content along with its subtitle & now look at their solution for JL add more scenes to the movie(like Darksied, GL, Superman walking in kryptonian ship beside of a black suite), If anything, the longer scenes just make the movie drag even more.

- They don't call JL as Snyder-cut because he didn't finished it himself but they are always ready to call it Whedon-cut even though he didn't choose the actors, the story, the the production & more importantly he didn't have any role in more than 80% of it (the news says the re-shots were about 20% but let's suppose it was even more, that won't change the fact that JL isn't made completely by Whedon). LOL

- They always insult WB & its CEO & they blame them for everything but they never mention that this year was one of the best year for WB Financially & the only high budget film that under-performed was JL from DCEU(which we all know who was the director) & even WW was great so it means WB & its CEO never mess up their movies if the film is a good one. Conclusion : Everyone is guilty of JL failure such as Whedon ( who has great resume in rating & box-office), WB (which they had a good year) but Snyder (whom we already know about his history of bad film-making & poor rating)

I agree with most of your points, except defending WB. Box office success does not equate to a "good" movie, and the opposite can also be said, Blade Runner for example, did poorly at the box office, yet is loved and has a cult following. Besides, I believe WB was riding a huge fan wave that started with MoS and then came crashing down when JL hit, which just broke even, ie disappointing box office numbers. Now they have done damage to their brand, even accounting for disillusionment with some hardcore DC fans...so the future will be telling. The fact is, they don't care about the DC fans, nor the source material. Their actions so far with the handling of the DCEU movies, ie stepping on director's toes, is proof of that.
Oh, and Snyder doesn't understand the basic principles of character development. His characters in BvS didn't evolve. They were the same characters at the begging, as in the end. The only thing we learned about them is that they shared the same mother's name.

    This is a perfect example of the disconnect between each of those points. They are all based off the turning point during the "Martha" connection, which lasted a total of 10 seconds.       So first you indicate there was no development, Now there actually is but it turns bad. It's funny because it's always the same: first the complain that there isn't this or that, and then when they are pointed to the correct direction, suddenly there's another complain.
      And I disagree. It was the cathartic moment for this Batman (and didn't know those moments should last hours). People are hell-bent on saying that he stopped because of the frigging name (seriously he even got madder because of that!) when it was because he saw another person in the blink of suffering the same thing he suffered (and what promised to stop) and not only that, but that it was going to happen because of him. He was turning into a new Joe Chill and Superman brought him back from that darkness after his sacrifice. Bruce could see in the end that there was hope around him. Oh, and I wouldn't say everything was "sunshine and kittens" with everything that happened afterwards...
      Heck, it's like people only got a hold of the exaggerated criticisms and the jokes and after two years none has stopped to check the movie by themselves.

You can't count a connection of a mother's name that happened in a 10 second scene fleshing out reasons for characters changing their whole persona, and tone of the movie going forward.       You can see the realization coming over him very clearly in his physical performance, which I thought was perfect as a storytelling device for this scenario.
      For the sake of drama and impact, I would argue it's better that the moment wasn't as slow and gradual as you're insisting it be. Realizing you're dead wrong about something so critical is usually on the spot in the heat of the moment - especially if you're as stubborn as Batman.
      How boring would the movie be if he were to gradually think he was wrong and change his mind? Not only does that deflate the tension and drama, but there would be no climactic culmination of themes, nor a climactic fight sequence symbolizing the conflict followed by a hot-hearted attempt at redemption.
      Frankly, what more do you need to understand? Batman's epiphany was obvious. There's nothing mysterious or cryptic about it, so I'm stunned that people need the moment spelled out more than it was.
      The fleshing out comes later anyway, as Bruce poetically explains how his thoughts have changed as he reflects on the night before, and his worldview in recent times. It's also a cliffhanger to further character development in later movies -- which I'm sure we'd have had a lot more of in JL if people hadn't overreacted to scenes like this like a bunch of rabid, thoughtless chimpanzees.

      Epiphanys and wartime turning points in real life do not make for a sound plot twist, especially when they were used so haphazardly, and as quick setup plot devices. I think the reviews from BvS speak for themselves how well that paid off. It was a piss-poor script. It is done. There will be no more Snyder(s) in the DCEU, and as recently reported, he will be in name only on WW2. He was fired and I am glad. No more B-grade director who sucks at character development ruining a franchise. Bye, Felicia!

      I have never understood how no one realizes that one work can change everything. It humanized Superman. I was in the Army for many years and went to Iraq. Many of my friends now have PTSD. The majority of them say it started when they realized that the people dying weren't monsters but people. All it took for one soldier was to see someone's next of kin crying over the body of a deceased loved one. He will never be the same after that one moment. A faceless evil enemy is the easiest to face. But once you see they love and are loved it makes it that much harder.

It's clear you completely miss the point of the things people liked about both BvS and the deleted scenes of JL. The value is lost on you, and there's really nothing anyone can tell you to fix that.
You'd rather gloat obnoxiously about how stupid something seems to you than consider it more attentively, and now you've pinned yourself into hating it regardless because you have to defend your stance online after poking at a hornet's nest.

    Im not talking about one movie, I'm talking about his overall running of WB. He's done a fine job where it matters most for his job security, at least. The studio, if I remember clearly, had it's best summer ever; they even beat out Disney. His recent decision-making for the DC Comics movies wont get him fired and it's about time people understood that.
    Lets take solace in that he's no longer the guy with the final say on the DC movies anymore.

Studio interfering in the films is very common thing & it is very interesting that WB is well-known to be a directors's studio but look at some of die-hard biased fans bitching in every article about a single scene or a especial cut. For example did you know one of the main reason behind Whedon leaving the Marvel was studio & Kvin Feige meddling in his film, look at the source article :

This is much more than just cutting the runtime down. First of all, Whedon wasn't replaced in the latter half of Avengers production, so your angle is ridiculous. Second of all, the studio mandated an unrealistic runtime for Snyder's story, and replaced him with a director who would give them exactly what they wanted: a very short version based on a successful Marvel formula. WB got greedy, and now it's all coming to light.
What is most concerning for fans of Snyder's previous DC movies is the fact that the overall tone and storyline of the originally-intended Justice League cut was vastly different than the end product. It is very apparent between the earlier trailers and the final cut, as well as with these particular scenes being cut. These scenes would've had a much greater impact on the Superman storyline, in my opinion.
Another thing worth bitching about is the obvious disregard for quality. Whedon and the studio looked at the final cut and said "yeah that's fine. Release it. Who cares?" Superman's melting face in the beginning (as well as various other spots in the movie) is an embarrassing display of work. It was far below amateur for the first major live-action Justice League, and the fact that it was approved by everyone at the top is a testament to both Whedon's and the executives' "fuck it; just finish it" attitude.
But please, put your big-boy pants on like a lot of the other guest accounts here and comment condescendingly to others who happen to enjoy MoS and BvS, and who were anticipating a conclusion to the story Snyder wanted to tell. You're definitely not being an asshole.
