Rumor: Jason Momoa's new 'Aquaman' costume looks "exactly" like the comics version

It sounds like Jason Momoa will be getting a comic book accurate costume in Aquaman.

A source for The Aquaman Shrine‏ attended a Warner Bros. licensing event and claims to have seen a Halloween costume for the movie that is "exactly" like the modern comics version (pictured above).

This lines up with an Aquaman action figure of Jason Momoa that surfaced last summer. It showed him in a new Aquaman costume that looked just like the comics version. At the time it was thought to be a fan made figure, but perhaps it was real. Check it out below.

        Lol how? By looking the other way? One of the things snyder perfected was the suits, changing them would be a downgrade. Look at supes suit in jl, it lost all the magic it had from bvs or mos.

        MoS one is still my favorite. Looked the most alien, and thus the most realistic. While I really like the swirly Kryptonian text added to the middle of the S in BvS and think the extra line at the top of the boots is a fine addition, spacing out and squaring off all the ribbing, cuffs, “belt,” and “belt buckle” looks awful. Better looking, better flow, and more in theme to keep everything more organic and smooth and rounded like it was shaped in MoS, not to mention it doesn’t create a plot hole, since there’s no way they could physically change the suit in-universe from MoS to BvS :P

        If it were a little bit lighter the MOS suit would be hands down perfect. Just remove the gray filter and it's perfect!

        Why would aliens sport bright American colors? Better to keep more of a darker, less saturated blue. That way the spirit of the comics is preserved, while retaining realism. But I was fine with the brightening to the suit they did in BvS since that had already been established, and I really loved the pattern they added in the middle of the S. But I don’t think think it’s a “grey filter,” though - the suit looks pretty much the same in non-movie photos of it I’ve seen, and even in some lighting and parts of the movie the suit looks bluer.

        Why wouldn't aliens that have solar powered cells in their skins wear bright colours. Just take that in for a second. Just because theyre alien doesn't mean it has to be dark. That's just a misconception of out culture that all our science fiction features aliens in dull colors.

        Well darker colors absorb light more, so why WOULD thy have brighter colors?
        Brighter color schemes are less practical and often more garish - at least on our planet - so it makes it much more believable to carry that over to other cultures, even if those cultures are on other planets. Then there’s the fact you alluded to of aliens being dark; modern sci-fi tends to be colder in color and tone, and serious films darker, so adhering to that works better for the type of movie MoS was going for. Finally, it’s already hard enough to believe Superman’s suit JUST SO HAPPENS to have an S shape and a red cape and all that, so it’s better to limit the coincidentally American color scheme as much as possible.

        The point of the suit isn't simply to "look alien," but to serve as a symbolic, visual expression of Superman's idealism and virtues. To engender trust. If extraterrestrials have a similar conception of "hope," who is to say they would't also have a similar aesthetic expression of that shared idea?
        The most important part of Superman's origin isn't just the alien part (and our human perceptions of what constitutes "alien," which has implications of 'emotional inaccessibility') it is the growing up in Smallville, Kansas that is the foundation of his true identity. The alien origin is simply a technical reason for him to have powers. But the ethical questions of how to wield absolute power in a society philosophically premised on the decentralizing and sharing of power (and how its utilization can inspire hope or fear) is what makes Superman ultimately such a human story.
        The modernist interpretation of the character emphasizes the alien origin above all, which does allow for some superficially interesting ideas, but is ultimately a very thin premise from which to draw stories. The best Superman stories are character studies rooted more in the classic interpretation, where Clark's personality and morals are informed by the things he learned growing up on earth. That's also where you get the most mileage out of his relationships with his supporting cast and the secret identity aspect.
        And Superman's suit was NOT bright (or good looking) in BvS. "Realism" might work (to an extent) with Batman, but trying to bog Superman down in it only detracts from the magic of the character.
        EDIT: As for Snyder "perfecting" the suits. He certainly did not perfect the Amazons. Patty Jenkins portrayed Themyscira as a sort of Garden of Eden, an idyllic paradise on earth. A visual expression of Diana's ideals and stark contrast to the grim, grey lighting of a morally ambiguous "Man's World." It has a thematic purpose for looking that way, an idea Jenkins took from Donner. Snyder had it looking like the set of an 80's American power metal music video. Also, see Snyder's design for Mera's costume and compare that with James Wan's better looking, more comic accurate design for Mera. Jenkins also did a better job of lighting WW's costume. Snyder did a good job with Batman though, minus the unnecessary DKR puffy aesthetic.

As I thought about it more and read some more Aquaman, I eventually just sort of "got" it. I think for me personally It was mostly just the suit combined with short hair no beard pretty boy Arthur. Looks much better in the pics I showed you imo. And I really have no idea what people are talking about with JL Supes. His suit looks exactly the same but slightly different color grading. It was too dark in Man of Steel, slightly too bright in JL, prefect in BvS. But either way I just love the design so it didn't bother me.

        Not just the colors, tge design is slightly different and in jl you can see all tge padding beneath the suit like some sort of discoloration. I dont even mind the color if it was as fleshed out as before.

        The Flash suit is absolutely awful. He did not perfect the suits. The suit in WW where they lighten it up, obviously something Patty ordered, is lightyears ahead of his design in BVS.

        Everything about flash sucked. I understand that the suit will eventually get better thx to bruce but when flash was running that was cringe worthy, the cgi were terrible. The way he was running felt like a parody on snl.

        I wouldn’t have a problem with it. It doesn’t look any uglier than TDK Batsuit, and it serves the same important purpose (realism), and, quite unlike TDK Batsuit, and in the JL Flash suit’s favor, it has the added bonus of remaining completely true to the iconic comics color scheme/design. So I really don’t see any reason to change it. *shrug*

        What is everyone’s problem with the Flash suit?! It looks exactly like the comics, just interpreted through a realistic lens...?! I feel like there weren’t this many people who complained about TDK Trilogy Batsuit, and yet that not only was made to look all realistic but also completely abandoned the color scheme... Here you have the exact design you want, and realism that works in the universe. What more could you people want???
        The WW and BvS WW suits have identical designs. One is just older than the other one. And more realistically colored.

        Comic book is purely representative, not literal. The literal version in a realistic, live action movie of Aquaman’s suit is what you get in the JL movie, more or less.

        I understand what the comics suit is SUPPOSED to be, but in real life armor pieces would never look like that. It just looks like a wetsuit (for the sake of keeping things simple to draw), which thy conveniently explain away for the sake of vague realism by saying it’s actually armor. But that would not be able to believably translate to live action. You have to show it, not just say it is the case.

      My assumption is you aren't up to date or haven't read Aquaman comics, so go check out Geoff Johns. Geoff Johns Aquaman the trench. Aquaman throne of Atlantis. They explain its not a wetsuit. It's armoured scaling.

        Nice, dingy - as if from being part of an ancient civilization / from the effects of being underwater for years - aquatic greens and regal golds is a much better choice, and one that still honors the original comics color scheme, just without being an ugly strictly literal adaptation of them.

        Looks like it's made of sea life and stuff, very interesting. But I like Atlantean armor better :P Plus, it looks like he'd get sick wearing that gross slimy stuff lol :P
        My favorite costume is still his BvS one though. I PRAY they bring that back. I'd love for him to alternate between that look and the JL look for different purposes.

    I have not given up hope yet, but if Aquaman is short of phenomenal.....then yeap, that's the final straw for me. I don't want any of that "its going in the right direction" nonsense either, I want freaking great. They've taken enough of my money, and have given them more than enough time, so I want great flicks from now on, or as a fan I am done with the DCEU until another studio takes over their property.

He will just be more responsible and won't litter. The Superman thing is different because he died and then came back. Idk if the personality is so much what felt super different to me. Rather it was some of the dialogue he was given that felt less like something he would have said beforehand.

        But for Supes, thats what the whole arc was supposed to be. Contrary to popular belief(including Snyder fans), the END of BvS was supposed to essentially be the transition. His decision to sacrifice himself represented his new state of mind. Im not saying it didn't seem like a substantial change, but the idea remained consistent

        Also, even from just seeing Joss’ reshoots to the Aquaman scenes we saw in the 2016 Comic-Con footage and the Official Trailer 1, it seems like they were trying to take some of the edge off of him from what Zack originally had. Not to mention completely removing all of his character’s stuff in the movie from Atlantis and stuff.

What is the point of a comic book accurate costume when he still looks like Momoa but not Aquaman ? Just like Barry does not look like Barry and both Arthur and Barry so far are also absolutely nothing like the actual characters. Barry was essentially a Peter Parker ripoff and Aquaman was more like Lobo or Wolverine then Aquaman.
Why is the DCEU always so heavily struggling with portraying the characters faithfully ? It can't be that hard to translate their comic book personalities to the big screen. Wonder Woman did it fairly well and at least JL got Superman finally right but then it totally ruins Flash and Aquaman at the same time.
I wish they would give us a PROPER Flash movie already. I just can't get excited about heavy metal Aquaman or out of nowhere Shazam.

First of all, he doesn’t need a THIRD flipping costume. Let’s just PLEASE go back to the BvS one for most stuff and then the JL one when he wants to be regal.

        Not really. It looks beautiful, like an aquatic-themed mosaic in armor form. An ancient Atlantean civilization having simple armor would be boring. Makes way more sense to give them a distinctive look and theme and regal ornateness. Not to mention this is the only way to capture the look of the comics - scales all over. Perfect.

    Newsflash: being a fan of the character doesn’t require liking ever single tiny detail of a particular interpretation in some comics. 90’s Aquaman’s design is and always have been my favorite. Am I less of a fan because of that? I also prefer black over blue for Batman, and no yellow oval on the Batsuit for the symbol, so I guess I’m not a Batman fan, either. Oh, and I think the trunks on Superman are silly, so I’m not a Superman fan.

Yeah, they went along with it, but in the process he was stagnant throughout the entire film. He was the only character in the group who didn't have an arc of some sort.

  I suggested it long ago. The only problem with that theory is that he himself made a statement that he decided to leave while WB was supportive and even offered to postpone the movie. He couldn't have been in on the conspiracy. Tho I've always found it strange that he "chose" to leave 3 months after his daughter died. And now we know that Tsujihara demanded that the movie air in 2017 meaning WB did not suggest to postpone it as Snyder claimed.
  My best guess? They told him, "You leave now peacefully and we'll let you make more movies with us in the future. If you don't, you'll never work here again."

    It was far too late to postpone JL. It would have been more costly to push it back than the reshoots after all it was said that they wanted to fire him before JL started filming.

        I disagree. I feel if they delayed the film, but still gave a good product, all would be forgiven. But now they have to deal with a rushed film that nobody liked (except for the fanboys in the beginning, but even they came around eventually and realized how much of a shit film JL was).

    I saw that. I wouldn't be surprised if WB/Snyder parted ways, but the timing doesn't line up here. Snyder was working on the movie on his birthday in March (remember he shared that Aquaman video?) and then later that month he promoted JL at Cinemacon.
    Also, it was Snyder who revealed the news about his daughter himself in a lengthy interview with THR.
