First 'Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay' trailer confirms R-rating

Last week the voice cast for Warner Bros.' next animated movie, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, was announced. Today, IGN premiered the first trailer.

Before even getting to the footage, the Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay trailer confirms that the movie will be rated R for "Strong bloody violence throughout, sexual content, brief graphic nudity, and some drug material". Check out the new trailer in the video above.

Update 01/18.17: Warner Bros. has announced that Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay hits Digital HD on March 27th and Blu-ray on April 10th. It's available for pre-order on Amazon now. Check out the official box art below.

oh look. The rating that the live action movie should have had. And can someone explain to me wtf Copperhead is supposed to be? I keep seeing different interpretations of this character.

  Its funny in the UK SS is rated 15 while the BvS UE is still rated 12, in the US Suicide Squad is PG-13 and the BvS UE is R-Rated. Its weird how they differ like that.

    I think we're a lot easier in the UK on violence because Logan was only a 15 as well. But SS got bumped up to a 15 because of the sustained threat of the micro bombs in their heads, the fact that they are tortured in prison, consistent profanity, and a lot of sexual references.

  The importance placed on rating is too high, in my opinion.
  As long as the movie is good, I don't give a damn about the rating.
  When they go for R with projects like this, it tends to be for cheesy edgelord reasons. Would rather the R be reserved for something actually worth it and not try-hard. :P

    it should be rated R in my opinion because thats what the source material calls for. It feels like its being held back it they make it pg13. The comics tend to be pretty violent. Lots of profanity. Sexual stuff. It just seems R rated to me

      Its definitely gone in a goofier direction of late. I have only read some of the earlier arcs which were pretty standard hard Suicide Squad stuff in my opinion. Lots of violence,plenty of cursing, and I remember an issue where Harley And Rick Flag are having sex.

        The cursing is censored but it is still there so I don't really see how that makes a difference.

        violence is a huge factor though. The reason they went with an R rating for Logan was so they could do bloody justice to that character. Suicide Squad is a bunch of bad guys. Killers and sick individuals. Killer Croc literally eats people. Idk dude. Im really not seeing the confusion here. What "other stuff" are you referring to?
        Say they wanted to make a Deathstroke movie. Do you think that should be rated R?

  Honestly think superhero genre movies should stay PG-13 for the most part. Deadpool’s success was an anomaly, and they have to make money on these things.

    it was one of MANY problems. But for a proper movie, you need a proper foundation. And to me, this movie lacked a proper foundation, which would have been an R rating. Idk why people only think Deadpool should be R rated. There are other characters/properties from both marvel and DC that I would strongly argue warrant such. This whole idea that only comics that specifically have an Adult rating should get the R treatment is silly to me. Suicide Squad comics(the ones that I have read at least) are pretty much R rated. The only difference between tham and something under the Vertigo or Marvel's MAX imprint is pretty just that the F bombs have to be censored and there isn't any "super" explicit nudity(though there is sexual stuff from time to time. Like when Rick Flag and Harley were hooking up).
    I try to imagine a pg13 Deathstroke movie as well...and thats just...disappointing. You can't get the full Slade Wilson experience with PG13. You could have a good/great movie, but it will feel like its being severely held back if we can't get the proper brutal Deathstroke action that everyone wants to see. And in a world where we can get great successful R rated CBMs from the major brands such as Deadpool, Logan, and potentially Venom as well, it just feels kinda of lame that DC chooses to stick with pg13 for properties that deserve to be R rated arguably more so than a Wolverine or Venom movie. I only want properties that I think genuinely SHOULD be R rated, to be R rated. Things like Suicide Squad, Deathstroke, or Lobo.

    Logan was R-Rated and done extremely well, if DC were to do page to screen on most of their films then you would see way more R-Rated DC films hence why the their animated stuff is so violent (Flashpoint was PG-13 but if that film was live action it would have been R-Rated), even something like Arrow would get a R if it was a film (hence the 15 in the UK).

so Vandal Savage is the villain ? And apparently Silver Banshee is there too. Thats actually not as bad as I feared as far as villains go. animation style, design and voice cast (except Tara as Harley, she is always perfect) are as always (with these 52-based animated movies) underwhelming though.
But R rated for strong bloody violence and even sexual content sure sounds very interesting. I guess Harley is banging Floyd again haha

This looks good but I'm kinda bummed we keep getting the same characters over and over. If we already have a live action version of the SS, they should make different movies like a Martian Manhunter movie, or Booster Gold and BB, Jaime Reyes BB would be awesome, more solo GL stuff, something with Hawkman and Hawkgirl might be interesting, the actual Outsiders would be awesome with Jade, Metamorpho and the rest, Legion of Superheroes, or a team up movie with GL and GA, or a decent GA and Black Canary animated movie (I find the show unwatchable since season 4), maybe something with Dr. Fate, Death od Donna troy would be really cool too, Plastic Man...

  Suicide Squad are popular so this will sell better. I do agree though that i wish they would branch out of the safe stuff, i mean give us a 2 part Sinestro Corps War, give us The Flash Blitz or The Return Of Barry Allen, give Wonder Woman some movies and yeah give Green Arrow some love.

        Oh dear god... Batman Bad Blood was dogshit. Literally you could put a video of dogshit for the length of that film and it'd be as good if not better. Teen Titans vs JLA was shit too. Only good New52 animated movie is Judas Contract. JL War and JL Dark okay. Everything else New52 sucks. Son of Batman was shit and ruined DeathStroke (seriously, Damian beat him up in that movie...), Batman Vs Robin absolutely ruined the epic Court of Owls story). New52 sucks

        Batman Bad Blood is creatively bankrupt. It's a train wreck. It's on par with the Suicide Squad live action movie. THat's how bad it is. New52 sucks... There's a reason that DC ditched it and eventually brought things back with Rebirth. If you don't read comics, than you won't follow or understand where I'm coming from.

        well,i read comic. but if one already knows the most basic way of story and character construction and plot flow,one doesn't have to read comic. the movie has its moment like interesting characters connection,and nice lines from its character,especially nightwing,damian,and ofcourse,alfred. the plot a bit messy but still made a coherent movie. the movie is enjoyable,to the least,and not as bad as,say,emoji movie or baby geniuses. i consider you overreact a lot.
        rebirth itself isn't all perfect,though. if you have seen some rebirth comic review from this very site,some of them even achieve score lower than their N52 counterpart.

        Only batman rebirth stuff achieves lower and that's because Scott Snyder is one of the best writers for batman of all time and he had an amazing run in new52 (also batman was one of the few characters that didn't get rebooted in new52, they only made a few changes). Superman, teen titans, Wonder woman etc rebirth is far superior to new52. And your comment about comparing to emoji movie is irrelevant. Thats like me saying "every movie is a good movie because at least it's not as bad as sharknado". Just to clarify though, i meant it's dogshit compared to the quality of batman animated films DC gave us in the past.

        and calling batman rebirth achieves lower is untrue because tom king's run has been amazing so far. if you really read this site review,you'll see how books of justice league,batgirl & birds of prey,or even latest SS comic occasionally achieve below average rating.

  I believe WB limits the creators to the guaranteed sellers like Batman and Justice League. Only now that the live-action movies are coming out, we're seeing some different ideas like this Suicide Squad movie or Teen Titans since they were introduced in a different movie before getting their own.

  They are two different Wallers. The fat one was from the Arkham universe, not the animated universe. This new movie is unrelated to Assault on Arkham (Why do people still not get that?)

    Honestly, though, they probably want Waller to be more of an attention-grabber since she's being used more lately, and in bigger and bigger ways. I don't mind. Waller is much more than just a fat cranky lady. :P
    The lovely Viola Davis' take in the film being so awesome probably helped solidify this trend.

    No, this is based on the idiotic and eventually failing new52 universe in which Waller was skinny. That was eventually rejected by fans and recently they made her fat again in the comics. Don't know why these dumbass animators are so obsessed with new52... The new52 movies have mostly sucked... Son of batman ... Batman vs Robin (which ruined the amazing Court of owls story)... The problem is that the new52 version is shit (and eventually retconned).... I'd rather have fat/stocky intimidating Waller, depicted the way she has been in the comics mostly.

  In honestly a lot of the Animated stuff does, Under The Red Hood is in my opinion the 2nd best BM film behind TDK with Mask Of The Phantasm being a close 3rd. You also have stuff like The Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 and 2 and Flashpoint what are better then most live action DC stuff, hell the best Superman films are Superman Vs The Elites and All Star Superman what are both animated.

        Yes it is affront to the character to completely change the core of their design. Imagine a kingpin that looked like a skinny male model. Imagine a flash that was FAT, would you believe an obese flash could move fast?
        She is the WALL! And yes, Viola Davis isn't obese but she is stocky and she has an ability to give a look of intimidation. I'm not asking for some 500 lb heavyweight, but someone that's actually intimidating. This skinny Waller looks like a model and sex symbol, not a symbol of control, fear and manipulation.

(Btw it's been changed back, in rebirth she has more of a figure similar to Viola Davis). Imagine a daredevil show/movie where kingpin had the body of Henry Cavill, how horrible of a departure would that be. Making Waller skinny is the equivalent of making kingpin skinny. It's a dumb short sighted way to bring about unwanted and unwarranted change. Hate it.
