The Flash movie, Flashpoint, is in talks with new directors, Vacation's John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Perhaps more interesting than that is the fact that Variety says Warner Bros. went to Ben Affleck first and he turned it down.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are no strangers to the superhero world. They were credited writers on Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming last year. Given their movie history and Ezra Miller's portrayal of The Flash in Justice League, Variety speculates that Flashpoint will have a comedic tone. Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) just turned in a draft of the script.

John Francis Daley seemed to confirm the news on Twitter, giving it two thumbs up!

Warner Bros. going to Ben Affleck first and him turning the job down is very interesting. You can read into that in two ways... 1) Confirmation that his Batman will definitely be a part of the movie, as rumored. Or 2) Affleck is completely done with DC and ready to move on with his career.

    I really don't want to see more DC movies with "a comedic tone", but I'm just glad that Flashpoint is still happening. Some jokes are fine, of course (Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad got the balance right), but there's plenty of room in the world for superhero movies that take themselves seriously. They don't all need to be self-aware comedy-action movies, which are sometimes bordering on being outright parodies of the genre.

    Come on Warner Bros! Stick with your own recognisable brand identity! You don't need to copy what Marvel does with their cinematic universe.

    I enjoy the films of Marvel Studios, by the way. I'm not a Marvel-hater at all. :-)

      The thing that annoyed me about Suicide Squad is that there were so many trailers and the marketing was everywhere, that by the time I watched the movie the jokes were played out and no longer funny

    Flashpoint as an intro to The Flash? Ezra as wannabe-Wally Barry? These guys at the helm? Hope I'm wrong but this movie screams failure and has box office bomb written all over it.

    my first thought is affleck doesn’t want to do something so effects heavy but more than likely he is done with dc. personally I don’t blame him

        I’m not saying it didn’t. but that’s one hell of a reality check for both parties involved (affleck and WB). Personally i have always thought that afflecks films were over rated to a certain extent... imo, not counting gone baby gone, the town is by far his best movie, (although bogged down by the ridiculous romance between affleck and the female lead, should have just centered around the criminals)... Argo was practically given an academy award for best film and live by night is just a bloated mess.

    A lot of you need serious help, lmfao. This community turned into an utter shit show full of insecure, run-of-the-mill fanboys who possess this misplaced sense of how "deserving" they are. It's one thing to have criticisms and issues, but the majority have you folks take this crap way too personally. You don't have ownership of these characters, the movies aren't canon, and you can just as easily focus that incessant hatred and bellyaching on positive things.

    Boo hoo, JL was only super average. I deserved it to be the Schindler's List of CBMs and make a gazillion bajillion dollars. My world has no meaning unless I can rave about how it was this life altering experience! I think I'm a flippin' genius, even though I just sit on a comment section droning on about what they should be doing, even though all I can rage about is "get good directors, and get a Kevin Feige!" BOOM! Problem solved. Its soooooo easy to say things and not have to be the one to do them. You're all so woke; you're all so ascended; you're so all knowing!

    Anyway, I won't tell you how to go about spending your time. If making one another miserable with your lackluster debating skills, or if spouting off about delusions of how much of a "true fan" you are due to personal taste is how you get your jollies -- have at 'er!

    I just don't see Flashpoint being the film to intro Barry Allen to the movie going world. (I know he was sort of introduced in JL but it was so quick). I would rather see him ease into his role, background, supporting cast etc. than suddenly become a man who changes the world.

      The whole Flashpoint doesn't make sense. DC/WB says they want to lighten up their movies.. Why then pick Flashpoint which is a very dark book? Superman being held captive by the US gov't, Batman dead, and Wonder Woman and Aquaman going to war against each other. Not sure what they are thinking here.

    Many love it apparently, and I am not one of them either. The costume is too dissimilar from the comics. The same can be said about the actor to the comic character. As a result, I really hope they don't do Flashpoint.

    Just put an end to everything DCEU for a while and concentrate on making a new DCAU. Movies are just for 2 hours, but building an animated universe is for hundreds of hours of fun. It may not gross billions, but it will at least give something for us to hopeful about.
