'Wonder Woman' wins Critics Choice Award for "Best Action Movie", Gal Gadot gives moving speech

Last night was the 2018 Critics Choice Awards, and Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman didn't go home empty handed.

Wonder Woman won "Best Action Movie", and Gadot showed off her excitement on social media.

Gadot was also presented with the #SeeHer Award, which recognizes actresses who "push boundaries on changing stereotypes and recognize the importance of accurately portraying women across the entertainment landscape." Last year Suicide Squad star Viola Davis received the award, and you can watch Gal Gadot's moving acceptance speech from last night below.

Only reason why she got it is was because it's the first good female comic book movie.

  What did Wonder Woman do that we haven't seen before? Put a female in front and it starts getting awards that no other similar movie got.
  But yeah I'm the sexist one for pointing it out, not the people giving it special treatment simply because it has a female lead.

    Because it was more than good guy v bad guy.
    Yes ares was bad guy but in a time where everyone is losing faith/hope in humanity this movie inspired many. Maybe because of her faith in mankind despite the evil she witnessed...idk just a thought.
    Don't get me wrong Logan was hands down one of my favorite comic book movies

  I am glad at least one DC film made it out from under the WB execs unscathed, and praised highly. If it was not for WW, DC would be the clown in the room.

  almost everyone can admit that Logan was the better movie (waaaay better) and John wick had the better action. i believe the "SeeHer" Award is an obvious explanation to why the movie won the award. so stop it with the childish "you're SEXISSSSST!!" you're throwing around whenever you run out of any plausible arguments; and the generic and immensely flawed "no man's land" sequence you seem to be very fond of, it has been brilliantly broke down (and the entire movie mind you) by ralphthemoviemaker.

Logan really didn't have a great many action sequences, so WW has it beat there.
HOWEVER, Logan is a more nuanced character piece, hence why it got the Best Adapted Screenplay nomination.

Not that I did not like it, but I think I would've liked it more if it would have continued with her war exploits and no superpowered villains. Like, how many soldiers could she have saved in that last battle of saving Private Ryan? Of course I will allow that people exploding is not very kid friendly and though I do like these movies I do not expect them to be on the level of other movies that I like. Just saying. It would've been cool. Commando Saving Private Ryan.

Baby Driver or Logan deserved it more, in my opinion. To me, the action in Wonder Woman was good but not great, due to too much slo-mo and bad cgi. But still, congrats to Gal, Patty, and the rest of the WW crew!

I enjoyed this movie but I also think John Wick 2 was a better action movie but PC culture I guess. Also Logan which had a great balance of drama and action. Hell even Guardians 2 had some good action. Yeah, I would've gone with John Wick 2 over Wonder Gal. I'm more excited to see John Wick shooting scenes in JW3 over a superhero kicking CGI goons again.

We love you Patty Jenkins for crafting such an awesome feminist movie, that still celebrated the importance of masculinity too! We love you Allan Heinberg, Jason Fuchs and Zack Snyder, for casting Gal and for writing the story!

Back in January she said that she isn’t leaving the anytime soon so she is in for the long haul and I agree that it will be very difficult to replace her in the far future
