Zack Snyder shows off his AFI Award for his work on 'Wonder Woman'

The American Film Institute held its AFI Awards this afternoon, and Wonder Woman was recognized as one of ten "Movies of the Year". Justice League director Zack Snyder was a producer on Wonder Woman (he also co-wrote the story) and received an award for his work on the movie.

"What a great time," Snyder wrote on Vero, where he showed off his AFI Award. Check it out below.

Yeah!!!! All Zach did was handpick the lead actress, co-write the story AND come in to help direct ALL the action scenes. How dare he except credit.....he had nothing to do with WW's success!!!!

It's my opinion that MOS is the best comic movie ever made. It's my opinion that BvS was great. Not perfect but extremely enjoyable. SS sucked (but I did like the characters), WW was great and JL was meh do to the last minute changes. Those are my opinions. If your opinion differs, that's cool

      It didn't. It was only lower in the dceu universe not for a dc movie and the reason for that is 1. It's November release date was a mistake. It was sandwiched between star wars and thor. 2. The bad critical reception affected the audience. Nevertheless the movie had a highly postive reception on twitter and social media. So no there was no brand damage and going out of your way to spread hate and vitriol just because you don't like a movie is trolling which is what you are doing.

The man went thru a tragedy and went thru BvS right after BvS they started production on JL and around that time his daughter passed... he was writing the treatment for WW around BvS. All that Criticism and weight he had on his shoulders. I can’t imagine how much work he had.

It still doesn't change the fact that his vision was terrible for these character and DC's brand... his poor choices and weak script just screw up so many potentially interesting stories (Death of Superman, world's finest, Justice League...) It's a damn shame to think the Snyderverse is the foundation of a soon to be (hopefully) rebooted DC Universe... what a f**ed up situation.

      Yes, I do think he is a visionary. Perhaps not in the same way that you are assuming, but I stand behind this firmly. As for intellectualism, I think Snyders DC films are far more interested in existentialism. We are living in a world that is seriously broken. Broken to the point that I sometimes question the point of going on. But what if there were a Superman? Someone who could actually make things better while we are here? As shown in BVS, the human race would make it difficult for him. He is someone who can hold us accountable for our actions. Someone who can level the financial playing field. Someone that disproves the many religions that so many take comfort in. Superman's good deeds here on earth would not be good enough for many, because he cannot promise them the afterlife that a Jesus or Allah could. There would surely be those that opposed his every action. BVS delved into these things without spelling all of them out for the viewer. This is where ones intellect might affect their opinion of the film.

    So he has to be "smart" according your opinion to appreciate Snyder's movies ? How pathetic you Snyders fanboys are sometimes... you guys really need to check yourselves, you are damaging the words "common sense" and most of all, you guys really need to respect other people's point of view.     I'll tell you something I strongly dislike Snyder work in this DCEU since day 1 with MoS, this movie could have been way better in my opinion with a better pacing and script (having more emphasis on Clark's youth and some other moments where you can connect with him and the Kent's... their scenes felt so rushed)
    BvS was a totall mess for many reasons and the case is closed you can't convince me of the opposite, we've had too many arguments about this on here : I hate Snyder's take on Superman and his "let's cram 5 stories and rush to JL in our 2nd movie"
    Justice League is a disaster that could have been avoided if WB was run by an intelligent CEO by removing Snyder at the very beginning and replaced him by someone else that love and can rebuild these characters organically...
    Now I'd like to know if I'm one of those people you claim that don't understand this man's vision ?

    God get over yourself, one of my favorite directors is Stanley Kubrick, i'm also a fan of Nicolas Winding Refn and Terrence Malick so when it comes to deep and smart films i can get along just fine with them and i do love a good deep film, Snyder though isn't anywhere near their level and his films are pretty basic but have enough pretty images and bible stuff thrown in that the teen/young adult audience think their watching something smart. People will thrown Watchmen at me but forget everything deep about it was taking from the comic and the actual new stuff is dumb stuff Snyder thrown in (like the new ending, pointless swearing and gore and OTT action). BvS is not a deep film, just because it looks pretty, is filled with bilbe images and has Bruce and Clark realizing their Mum has the same name it doesn't make the film smart.

      I'm not going to get into an argument about Kubrick's films because in all honesty, I don't care for them. And while Malick has made some good films, he has also made stuff that didn't resonate with me at all. And I think that's what it boils down to. Does a film resonate with you? For me, Man of Steel is incredibly timely and touching. While I absolutely love the cinematography/choreography in the fight scenes, and all of the amazing action, its Clarks relationship with his parents that is the true heart of the film. You have to admit that Snyder has some balls. When Jonathan Kent tells his son that maybe he should have let a busload of kids drown rather than expose himself, he is thinking of the greater good. What would people do if they realized that the religion they have clung to for a lifetime is nothing more than a sham? Jonathan Kent was concerned about taking away peoples hope, but most of all, he was concerned about having his son taken from him. BVS is not as strong as MOS, but the directors cut is still an amazing continuation of Superman's story. Bottom line....these films move me in a way that Kubrick and Malick never could.

  I disagree as well, Man of Steel was an amazing film. Not an emo Superman but Snyder gave us a conflicting real life Superman. Batman v Superman, i enjoyed it and I saw what Snyder wanted to do with the characters... a Batman that’s been doing his thing for 20 years. He’s bound to loose it at one point... it shouldn’t be rebooted... I love Cavill, Momoa, Miller, Gadot, Fishers performance.

    Best way it could? Not really, Superman never needed to die when all he had to do was give Diana the Green K Spear, she fought and held her own against Doomsday far better then Clark was so there's no reason why she couldn't have killed him herself with the Spear.

      Superman doesn't need the sun to be all him at all times you know, he's just as powerful at night as he is day, do you even know how his powers work? Anyway he was just in space and got a major amp from the sun, he should have been at his most powerful.
      By the way are you going to forget that Lois chucked away the spear and then thought "hey maybe i should get that weapon what can kill the man i love back for no reason at all right now". The fact Lois gets the Spear back after chucking it before she's even aware of Doomsday is poor writing and logic, she had no reason to get that weapon back especially when it can harm Clark but hey i'm sure you will defend that with some bullshit excuse.

      I know that he has a limited amount of energy once there's no yellow sunlight to absorb from. But remember that he was using that energy to fight DD. We see him going all out against the monster, so it's not like he had only used up like 10% of his energy. Even if he was at full strength, he still would've been drained from the spear, and it would take a bit for him to recover, which WW and Batman had little time to buy him.
      I don't see how Lois getting the spear back relates to your original argument that Superman should've gave it to WW. Yeah, they could've showed Lois seeing DD or her being told by Batman that they need the spear.

      2. Without Diana holding him down with the Lasso, spearing him would never be an option.
      3. This was the perfect moment: Diana had him restrained, and Bruce had him weakened with the Kryptonite gas grenade. This moment might have been the last chance they would ever have of being able to defeat Doomsday, so Clark had to take it right that second while it was still an option.
      4. How would Clark even give it to her? He could barely fly in time to kill Doomsday because of his weakened state, you really want him to take the extra time to swap weapons with Diana, too (assuming that wouldn’t loosen Doomsday and let him free, and that Supes knows how to use a Lasso - both of which are huge assumptions)?
      5. Even if they could somehow get Diana to do it for him, then SHE would get killed instead. Why is that better to you???
      6. Why on earth would you want someone other than Superman killing Doomsday?
      I could probably think of more reasons why that is totally ridiculous, too.

      All the way through that fight she's taking lead, Doomsday lays more blows on Superman then he does Diana, she even cuts off his arm during the fight. She could have done it without being killed as Doomsday was struggling to hit her directly (most of the time hitting her shield) so it stands to reason she could off killed him with the spear especially when the Green K wouldn't effect her, Superman could off distracted him while Diana then goes for a killing shot.

Actually i would have rather Doomsday wasn't in the film at all and saved for a standalone Superman film where we have a Doomsday whats actually like the comics with non of these extra stupid powers Snyder gave him and its just him and Superman fighting to the death through the city.

  I honestly don´t think they will reboot it. The Amazing Spiderman showed pretty damn well that the public is tired of reboots. Also, getting a reboot off the ground would probably take years, and it would be yet another reactionary move on behalf of WB, which has never been a good sign in the past (Suicide Squad and Justice League being extensively reshot).

Nobody hates him. We don't know him to hate him. That being said, the world largely believes he's a very limited director with poor storytelling skills, and no feel for dialogue or character development. Everything he touches pretty much turns into rubble. The best film he ever made was Wonder Woman and that because he didn't direct it.

      Well for me, I don't read comics. I mostly read fanfiction, and sometimes read manga as well. Chris' non-DCEU articles aren't his most popular stuff on his site. Hell, I don't see folks like Seb on a lot of non-DCEU articles, but I don't question their fandom, nor should I even give a crap about it. It's their prerogative.
      And I've never even labeled myself as a hardcore fan anyway.

      I never see the big Snyder fanboys on comic reviews or news, i rarely see them on Animated stuff news and again rarely on any Batman film whats not DCEU, i mean its pretty clear all they care for is DCEU. The Doomsday Clock #2 was released a week back, you know that comic what anyone whose fan of DC comics will be reading and talking about, guess what on BN review of it i don't see any of the Snyder fanboys on there, now sure you don't have to comment on it but its funny how this big group of "DC Fans" never bother with stuff not DCEU on here.

      I agree not all the people who dislike Snyder pop up on other articles however they don't act like they know everything DC and how it is like the Snyder fanboys do. I call them out because frankly they never accept criticism of Snyder and will defend him for everything, i may hate a lot of his stuff but i've defended and shown love for some of his stuff as well. Look up the build up to JL, every bad rumor was shot down by fanboys and called fake news, Chris got abuse for daring to post news on how troubled JL is and then what do you JL launches gets bad reviews (what again fanboys get angry with) and finally they see it and then realize all that bad press and rumors was fucking true and indeed the film is a fucking mess.
      Yeah i can act like a dick with them but frankly Snyder fanboys are some of the most deluded entitled toxic group of fanboys i've seen on the net, its pretty clear that most of them are off a young age (at least mentally) as well and there's at least few on this website who i know are of a teen age, no problem with being young but it does mean you're arguing with people who are just a fucking pain to argue with.

Remember how when we got the first BvS trailer, there was a shot with Batwing raining hell on some dudes in SUVs? We were all coming up with theories, as in, "Obviously Lex Luthor took control of Batwing to set Bats up and make Sups believe that he is a murderer." I said that myself! Couldn't imagine back then that it was actually Bats himself just casually killing people left and right. Boy, was it a different time!

      I actually loved and really defended MoS before i saw BvS but that film ended up making me dislike MoS quite a bit. I remember getting hyped for BvS and being in denial after seeing it and saying its good, of course after a few more watches i finally realized what a mess it is and how bad it is, i like some aspects like the opening with Bruce being on ground level to Supes Vs Zod and i do love the Warehouse scene along with Irons as Alfred but those things sadly don't save the film. I'm still pissed they ruined one of the greatest villains in DC with Luther, Eisenberg and the writing were just awful with him.

      I did not like MoS to begin with. I liked Cavill, I thought he could make a great Superman. I really rooted for him, and that was a big part of why I defended MoS and Snyder. Now I'm not so sure anymore. He has tones of charm but doesn't seem to have much charisma. And Sups needs to have charisma.
      But MoS to me was uninspiring and kinda dull. I let it slide. I reasoned, "Ok, this is an origin. We need to give Sups time to develop and become his real self. And of course the neck snap will play a crucial role in his world view and rejection of execution of the enemies." That was done in the comics long ago, when he executed Zod for mass murder and felt like shit after that, so he exiled himself for some time. Of course, I did not expect an exile in the next movie, but I did want to see him build up on the neck snap and become the best damn hero he could possibly be. That didn't happen.

  Not true. I fucking hate him. Not as a person, but the work he does and his sensibilities. He ruined my favorite fictional characters of all time. Characters I grew up with. He turned them into something they're not. Not only that, but he managed to turn them into jokes in the eyes of the public. THere's a reason no1 was interested in JL, and it had such a low opening weekend. The reason is Snyder. BVS was so poorly received. It ruined the Batman and Superman brand.

  Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will pass JL at domestic box office this week and that movie only took $90 million to develop.What a success.While Hack Snyder movie was a disaster.With a $300 million production budget and $100-150 million marketing budget, JL won't be able to make the money back that wb invested.That's how big of a disaster jl is.But, WB deserve this for not firing the hack after BvS.

    Funny how people only bring up a certain theater total (in this case domestic) when they want to prove a point. We both know Jumanji won't even come close to the worldwide total of Justice League, and for some reason you forgot to post the marketing budget for Jumanji. Wonder why that is?
    But I am curious as to how it's Snyder's fault the budget was so high. Marketing (a figure you probably made up and have no idea if it's true either way) has nothing to do with him, nor do the ridiculous amount of reshoots the studio ordered after he left to take care of his family after his daughter killed herself.

      Jumanji didn't had a $300 million production budget.So, It doesn't have to surpass jl globally.Sony is already swimming in profit with Jumanji while jl isn't even able to earn back the money they invested.Jumanji marketing budget doesn't matter cause of how great it is doing on box office.
      Of-course, It is hack snyder fault that jl has a high budget.Movie was full of bad cgi and wb had to spend millions of re-shoots which costs money.Not to mention that they hack loves to shoot extra footage(jl earlier cut was three hour long) which also cost millions.While civil war and ww directors barely had any additional footage.
      BvS marketing budget was $165 million while MOS had a marketing budget of $150 million.So, I see no reason for jl to have marketing budget less than $100 million.
      Facts shows that MOS, JL, BvS were critical and box office disasters.That's why wb wanted to fire hack after BvS.And, That's why we don't hear any news about jl 2 while ww sequel was announced weeks after movie was released.Or, The fact that nobody at warner wants to do a MOS sequel and how they had to involve their heavy hitter Batman in the follow up.Fact is that hack snyder is worse than Michael bay. If you don't like Zack Snyder's films, fine, I personally wouldn't recommend them to anyone. And if you want to waste your time going to message boards p****** all over a director you don't like that's fine too, it's your life.
But if you think getting rid of him is going to solve the problem than you're just an imbecile.
They did it to Tim Burton. They did it to Joel Schumacher. They did it to Bryan Singer. And if Batman Begins fell short of "expectations" they would've done it to Christopher Nolan too. Burton, Schumacher and Singer all had critical and commercial success but it didn't stop Warner Brothers from sticking their nose in with their bulls*** when things didn't go their way.
If Man of Steel, BvS and Justice League became the three highest grossing films of all time WB would not have given two f****** s**** who Batman killed, how many times Clark smiled, or how rushed Justice League was. Not. At. All. And your argument of "Hack Snyder's gotta go" would have even less merit than it already does.
So you can put whatever director you choose in there, if the film doesn't meet whatever goals WB, with their moron executives and asinine out-of-control budgets, set, what happened with these films will just continue.

Meanwhile, they are letting Synder be the producers on WW2 as the article states above. As long as he is not directing another DC movie, WB is happy with letting him finish out with WW2.

    Producing contracts and directing contracts aren't the same thing. He's only on WW2 because Patty and Gal love him. Charles Roven is still on too, even though he was booted from the franchise. Producers have certain entitlements (since they set up the first movie), it's easier just to keep them on. Nolan was an exec producer on BVS even though he had nothing to do with the film.
