The world's greatest detective. That’s one of his nicknames, after all. And in this week's Batman #38, we saw Batman doing more detecting than he’s done in a long time. If you’re new to comics, this is a great place to get in—it’s a self-contained story, it has great art, and it’s an excellent example of how strong the character is when you strip away all of the frills that have been attached over almost eighty years. Here’s hoping someone puts this in the hands of Matt Reeves (and that he pays attention)!
White Knight #4 was also out this week, and it was another outstanding installment in writer/artist Sean Murphy's other-universe spin on the Dark Knight's world. If you’re looking for a book that takes on the issues of our day, but also respects your intelligence, then this is for you.
Duke Thomas's solo(ish) outing, Batman and the Signal, debuted on Wednesday, but it was a pretty weak debut. Since Duke's introduction—and forced rise in status—several years ago, we've all been asking the question: why Duke? If you were hoping to find an answer in this book, you might be disappointed.
