on 'IT' and 'The Conjuring' boss is now in charge of DC Films at Warner Bros.

Last month Jon Berg left his position as president of DC Films, and today Warner Bros. announced his replacement.

Walter Hamada, an executive at Warner Bros.' sister company New Line who overlooked smash hits like IT and The Conjuring is now president of DC Films. He will work closely with Geoff Johns to get DC movies back on track.

"Walter is creative, resourceful, and committed to excellence, and will bring those qualities to his oversight of our superhero films," Warner Bros. president and chief content officer Today Emmerich in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "He's a terrific production executive and served as an executive producer on two of the summer's most popular films, New Line's It and Annabelle: Creation. I'm confident Walter and Geoff, working with our filmmaking partners, will deliver films that will resonate with both broad global audiences as well as DC fanboys and fangirls.  Walter's a great addition to the Warner Bros. Pictures team, and I look forward to working with him in his new post."

Update: Geoff Johns has welcomed Walter Hamada to his new position on Twitter. The two have already been working together on Shazam.

As long as I get a MoS 2 with Henry Cavill.

Batman and WW are easy, they can all take place in the past, before MoS, and have zero reference to any DCU stuff thats come so far (Well, WW2 can reference WW1 obviously).
I dont know where Shazam fits, but that can work as a standalone im sure.

Green lantern, if they can get that going, would work as well if they make it a movie entirely set in space. We know lanterns exist in this world, and we dont need to see a GL origin again. He can just be a generic green lantern in the corps, and the movie can make him stand out as one of the great GLs. Something like First Flight, but without all the origin stuff.

Flashpoint is a great opportunity because they can bring back Affleck right at the beginning and right at the end, and can even use it as a way for him to step aside, to bring in a new batman in the "modern era" - (Terry McGinnis?), while Reeves launches his prequel trilogy about who batman once was, maybe with the final movies ending somehow mirroring the events of MoS which clearly drove brucey off a cliff and made him so obsesive about Supes.

moving forward, Superman is easy, they can just make another modern stand alone superman movie (with the Elite would be my pick, but it seems unlikely). Aquaman is similar because his world is so different, he can just exist in his own world.

Nightwing, SS2, GCS, Deathstroke, they can all be somewhat standalone movies that just exist in the same universe and dont need (perhaps even SHOULDNT have) any crossover.

This year they have WW2, and Shazam in production, maybe SS2. early 2019 they can have Flashpoint and The Batman, in production for a 2020/21 release. Aquaman 2, MoS2, and Black Adam will need to be going into production by 2020 as well i suspect. Id like to see a GL movie made by 2021 with JL2 in production in 2021, for a 2022 release, and incorporating GL. 2022 they can put Flash/Cyborg into production, along with WW3 and something new, like Justice League Dark, or even something out of left field, like Captain Atom, or Power Girl. Building off diverse viewer bases, they may like to promote non-white, and female character movies too, like Zatana, John Stewart as GL, obviously Batgirl and Harley Quinn, etc.

Side projects like Nightwing can sort of come out whenever and once theyve had enough time to get really good.

Will they do any of this though?
    No.

Actually the fact that they are successful horror directors is what gets me excited for these films. A lot of horror directors tend to transition very successfully to big blockbuster action films. Some good examples include Peter Jackson who made the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Sam Raimi who made Spider-Man 1 & 2, and James Wan, who made the blockbuster hit, Furious 7.

Good move! The horror franchises have been major successes mainly due to making popular entertaining and suspenseful products with small budgets. This will start to occur with DC Films moving forward. Budget discipline.

from a business standpoint I would say it probably makes sense. IT was incredibly successful and some would argue that the Conjuring universe is the most successful cinematic universe behind the MCU. If you look at his track record, it would appear that he knows the business well and knows how to get results. All we can do is hope for the best

I don’t know anything about this guy, but it’s encouraging that someone’s going to be in charge. Hopefully they’ll find a right balance in tone for DC movies that keeps everyone happy. I’d say Wonder Woman is a good example. Patty had all the right ingredients for an entertaining movie. Bring on Aquaman and Shazam!

https://uploads.disquscdn.c... DAMN! I was pulling for Dwayne The Rock Johnson to get the job! Oh well.😊 I'm glad this was publicly announced. At least show fans that you give a sh!t about accountability, instead of putting everything on the director, while anonymously undermining them during post-production. I like Geoff Johns in the co-leader/assistant role. But hopefully this Hamada dude can earn the trust of the WB execs, and make sure that the right DC projects are getting greenlit.

Compare it to the rest of the DCEU and it's leaps and bounds ahead. For me it was great since it truly showed Superman like the alien among us and captured that spirit of what it means to be him, that with the exceptional score from Zimmer was a winner in my book and for many others as well.

Make the next movie a crisis movie. Show the anti-monitor and the tower.

Get rid of the Murderverse. Get rid of Hawaiian Aquabro, unfunny Flash, Can't-act Gadot, Angsty Superman, Tired Batman and CGI Cyborg.

    Get Tim Story to direct.

I like Gadot, dat smile, but the rest of the characters, I agree. I really wish they would stick to the comic character portrayals, ie a blond Aquaman and Flash, and stop with the humor. Ezra's performance was the worst, awkward comedy and that thing he kept doing with his eyes, darting left and right. Bad acting. Reboot the whole DCEU and wash the Synder taint away.

This is a non story and let me tell you why. The same people at WB, Kevin Tsujihara and Tobey Emmerich are still in charge and hired this guy. Those are the two guys that need to go.

This current regime at WB hires internal folks cause they know they can boss them around. My idea was to hire someone externally to run DC. Fresh eyes and not just another WB company man. Berg was a company man, Hamada was a company man, Johns and Snyder company men.

Until the source of DC's problems are gone (Kevin Tsujihara and Tobey Emmerich) this is merely rearranging the chairs on the desk of the Titanic

I've seen it (yeah, pun) 4 times in theaters and I'd argue there are some scares in there. That being said it's no Babadook, but I thought it was well rounded with Stranger Things-esque (irony) kinda laughs and relationships and character development, plus Pennywise is objectively scarier imo ("Time to FLOAT", fuckin no way that's not creepy, not saying it's "scary" but it's "creepy" not unlike how The Shining is imo)

IT was a huge letdown for me. I thought it was stupid. I'm not a fan of horror movies anyway, they all seem like everyone in them is mentally challenged. and most are not scary at all they just use loud sounds to jolt you. Conjuring was slightly better but not by much. If this is the direction they want to go in I'm very disappointed.
