on Gal Gadot is 2017's highest grossing actress thanks to 'Wonder Woman' and 'Justice League'

A few years ago Gal Gadot nearly quit acting, but in 2017 she was in bigger movies than any other actress.

Gadot was 2017's highest grossing actress, according to Forbes. Gadot's movies, Wonder Woman and Justice League, grossed more than $1.4 billion. She was #3 overall if you count all actors. Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson took the #1 and #2 spots respectively, with the help of The Fate of the Furious and the other movies they appeared in.

Many fans confused highest grossing with highest paid. Gadot was the highest grossing actress, meaning the movies that she was in made more money than the movies that other actresses were in this year. Being in two superhero movies is hard to compete with!

In 2018, probably around the summer, Gadot will once again put on the Wonder Woman costume. Wonder Woman 2 will begin filming for a November 1, 2019 release.

          It seems like she can play a pretty good friendly dummy but when she has to give a serious performance it just falls flat and actually becomes cringey.

            lmfao talk about pretty harsh. She is fine and very likable in the role. I didn't see anything cringey from her in the last two movies other than that "Kal El no!" thing when Supes comes back. But that line seemed to be dubbed in or something so idk. But im talking to haters who are clearly in the minority when it comes to Gal so idk why I should care much

            I love Gal. She did good in Wonder Woman. There were a few times in both that and JL that she had her her cringey moments (WW - "THIS IS ARES AND HE'S NOT GOING TO ALLOW A SURRENDER!" was pretty bad for instance and in JL as you said, "Kal-El, no!" was bad too), but overall, she was fine.

            It wouldn't hurt certainly if she got a few more acting lessons, but she has the charisma and presence to handle herself well IMO.

            the only thing I saw was the part in JL and like I said there could be a reason for that. Didn't see anything wrong with that WW line though. SHe was upset and angry and did not understand why teh human peeps were acting this way and Steve was even telling her to "shhh" when raised her voice.

      Its weird how she went from being mega popular to mega unpopular on the internet, she's a fantastic actress, seems like a nice enough person and is pretty good looking so i don't understand the hate.

            That could be a factor. That happened in Sep. 2014, and in 2015 she started talking about politics more (which always alienates some people). The last Hunger Games opened in Nov. 2015 and made significantly less than the first three. They could be related.

          You were completely right though. If I'm reading it right, they're measuring a calendar years worth of gross. They kind of explain their reasoning:

          "To calculate the ranking of top-grossing actors, we added up the 2017 global ticket sales of major actors’ films as of December 26th, 2017, using data from Box Office Mojo. We did not count animated movies where only actors' voices were used and only included actors who were top-billed or had the most screen time."

        I'm not an expert but I'd say the opposite, I remember one or some articles mentioning how The Force Awakens was in the top 10 (or 15 or whatever) of 2016 because it had legs and made a lot of money a month after release.

          lethargicj’s statement is correct. As 2013 ended, Iron Man 3 had made $409M domestic and Catching Fire had made about $400M. The latter kept making money in 2014 and surpassed IM3. It is the highest grossing movie of (i.e. released in) 2013.

        That is correct. Even if TFA made the most money _in_ 2016, Rogue One is the highest grossing _of_ 2016.

        Likewise, Vin Diesel “beat” Dwayne Johnson by about $100M, but Jumanji will soon undo that.

        Daisy Ridley is an amazing actress because she can pass toughness and the emotion. Gal is good because she passes toughness and power, but is still raw in the emotion body language.

          Daisy Ridley doesn't seem very tough to me. Name one thing she did in TLJ that makes her "tough". The toughest thing she did was lifting some rocks.

            She fought and confronted Luke Skywalker and she was awesome.
            She resisted Snoke with such spunk like he said himself and then fought alongside Kylo/Ben in one of the most fantastic scenes of the film.

            I think Rose was a stronger woman. She was able to figure out about the tracking device using her brains. She then rescued some abused horses and set them free. She was able to board the enemy ship with the hacker. And she then risked her life to save Finn, because of her love for him.

            Each character had their own tasks and we are not here discussing which task was the most heroic. We are discussing how the actress portrayed the role and I thought she was tough and emotive at the same time.

    Gal did good this year but this is kind of a thumb in the eye to other actresses who have been doing it longer and have more experience. It shows us where hollywood's values are. Does everyone still think WW was a huge step forward for women?

      You misunderstand. She's not the highest paid actress; the two movies she was in had the highest cumulative gross. Values and experience have nothing to do with it.

      WW made over 800 million at the box office and JL while not doing well has crossed 650 million, those numbers combined made her the highest grossing female actress this year, its got nothing to do with how much she is paid or her talent its purely based on the films what starred her making well over a billion. Vin Diesel is the highest grossing male because of the Furious 8, XXX 3 and Guardians 2, again nothing to do with his pay or talent.
