With 2017 coming to a close, Twitter has shared a list of the most popular topics on their social network over the last year. As far as movies are concerned, Wonder Woman took the #1 spot, though Twitter didn't share the specific amount of tweets the movie received. Justice League made it into the top 5 as well!

Here are the movies that received the most amount of tweets on Twitter in 2017 (US only):

  1. Wonder Woman
  2. La La Land
  3. Dunkirk
  4. Spider-Man: Homecoming
  5. Justice League
  6. IT
  7. Beauty and the Beast
  8. Thor: Ragnarok
  9. Black Panther
  10. Fifty Shades Darker

It's no surprise to see that Wonder Woman was the most talked about movie on Twitter in 2017. It was one of the biggest movies of the summer and had a long and successful box office run. Are you surprised at all by the rest of the list? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

      I think what you meant to say was: "It's surprising to see Justice League was one of the most talked about movies on Twitter considering how it's doing at the box office."

      That's a much more intelligent comment than the one you left.

    Nice to see Dunkirk get 3rd place, easily my favorite film this year and one of the best cinema experiences i've had as that film demanded to be seen on the big screen. No surprise at WW, fantastic film and deserves all the praise and hype.

        Watch Dunkirk on the biggest TV you can with the best sound system you can get and sit back and be in for a ride what doesn't let up from the moment it starts.

    I don’t understand Dunkirk. The audience is likely older than the others. THEORY: Lots of Directioners tweeting about how much screen time Harry Styles had. (Side theory: at least 72% of the Justice League tweets are CGI-mustache-removal-related.)

    Btw, why release this list now? (Asking of Twitter, not you, @BatmanNewsCom:disqus.) The Last Jedi will likely replace JL by year’s end.

    Yep, people really embraced Wonder Woman. Justice League had A LOT of drama to overcome. But whoa! I'm pretty sure that Justice League's Rotten Tomatoes rating actually IMPROVED. Since when does that happen, ever? I think JL was stuck on 37% and now it's at a much more respectable 41%. LOL Cool.

        JL RT scored increased, it was below 40% but its now 41%.

          The movie started at a 40 dropped to 36 and jumped to 41%. That's nothing.

      JL isn't a bad film, its actually pretty good but with just a ton of flaws, both times i went i could see people were enjoying it and when i've been working at the Cinema i could hear people leaving saying that they enjoyed it to each other.

      Ratings tend to change a few points before settling. I remember Wonder Woman was mid-90s in the first few days of release before finishing at 92%.

      It is #6. I'm surprised Get Out wasn't there, but Fifty Shades 2 is. Wtf is there to say about that? "OMFG I must tell the world that hiring a professional director took it out of the so-bad-it's-good category and put it in the so-dull-it's-who-cares category!!!!"

      I wouldn't say don't care. A potentially billion plus IP just suffered a huge blow. Wonder Woman may be their next billion, it's plausible, but it sure won't be Batman, Superman, or the justice league. They are not hurt beyond repair, but they have to be repaired.

        True - although I think Batman will survive too (has the zeal of a cockroach), but Superman was heavily damaged which is a real bummer. It's a travesty considering how his symbol is still revered to this day as probably the most iconic logo in superhero-dom.

        Do I think WB is hurt, yes, but dead in the water no. They still have the Potterverse, along with the next It, and whatever crazy idea Chris Nolan has that isn't Bond. I just wished they hadn't screwed this pooch.

          They messed up big time. Ben Affleck as Batman is pretty much finished. Then I think people will go back to the movies, but I don't know about dark Knight type box office. Since no one watch justice league, they don't know superman was better this time around. WB will be fine. They have other movies. And potentially, they can release other superhero movies that will still do well, unless WW was a fluke, a very real possibility

        Studios care about profits, not necessarily the "billion" mark if that money comes from China.

        Wonder Woman is *already* the most profitable superhero movie of the year (with Logan). It will also be more profitable than the "billion" Civil War from last year.

    So why is JL getting so much less money? This situation continues to not make sense to me.

      Superman and Wonder Woman are the only 2 characters to be fleshed out at this point and one was dead for half the movie. WB did something right with WW and got people to the theaters. We were introduced to three new heroes that weren't fleshed out by this movie so there wasn't enough time to explain everything in barely two hours. Considering how many superhero TV shows are on now including Marvel, some people are either heroed-out, rather stay home, or rather see a different superhero movie. Plus the marketing for this movie was terrible, the change of directors didn't help, and the rumors that the first cut was unwatchable didn't help. Also Rotten Tomatoes holding back the reviews made people cautious. Some also didn't enjoy BvS and lost interest in follow ups. It's just a collection of missteps and trips that resulted in bad recovery.

        Whether the movie is good or not, it’s certainly the stuff the general audience typically loves, though, and I thought the marketing was good. As for previously-seen superheroes, that shouldn’t matter that much, I wouldn’t think... People already knew Batfleck, too, and the Flash and Aquaman are household names. Besides, NO ONE was known in - say - Guardians of the Galaxy, which goes to show teamup movies can introduce a bunch of new characters. Certainly what you’re saying accounts for some of it, but I just cannot fathom that they would make this big of an impact - look at Suicide Squad, another team up movie, all of UNKNOWN characters, and it was horrible, AND it came after two movies Rotten Tomatoes also called rotten, yet it was a huge success...

          Guardians and Squad were fun exciting movies, even though the squad marketing tricked people into thinking the Joker was more relevant which kinda hurt. Snyder's been taking these movies into the dark, gritty, realistic, comic direction. But using this outside of Nolan has proven to be bad and cliche(Green Lantern, The Amazing Spider-Man). From the moment we see the Guardians characters we start learning more about them and relate to them. We know at the start of Guardians the main character is Star-Lord then Peter. Wonder Woman's name is never mentioned in BvS and maybe WW too not sure but she just appears out of nowhere in BvS and for the people who don't know her, they have no idea what's going on. Plus you can relate to characters like Star-Lord (family tragedy, enjoy good music, having a crush on the girl). Snyder's stories are weak. Yes they put what people love in but they don't structure it well to fit with the story, it's a mess. Honestly I think Snyder's a beautiful cinematographer, but that's about it. When it comes to creating stories for movies based off of hundreds of comics, he can't steer the story in a good direction.

            That’s correct: three movies and no one has said “Wonder Woman” yet. In BvS she’s unnamed until the Turkish Airlines (nice product placement) flight attendant calls her “Miss Prince.” Btw, do flight attendants usually know passengers by name? It’s not like she had time to look her up in the flight manifest.

          NO ONE was known in - say - Guardians of the Galaxy, which goes to show teamup movies can introduce >>> GOG was actually a solid movie , also the MARVEL BRAND helps a lot.
          Suicide Squad >>>> it can be seen as a guilty pleasure movie, it was a dumb movie but still fun not boring or drab, also marketing was great for SS

      I don't think you'll accept this answer, but it's BvS blowback. The GA didn't track the ever-changing estimates of how much was Snyder and how much was Whedon. To them it _looked_ like BvS, and despite Gal Gadot's presence they said no thanks.

      I'm convinced much of the tweets were mustache-related. Not exactly the I-can't-wait and go-see-it tweets that the other movies generated.

        First, most of the people who saw BvS liked it fine. Second, Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman both came after BvS and were major successes. Just doesn’t add up.

          BvS suffered a 69% drop-off in the 2nd weekend. The only 'competition' was the 5th weekend of Zootopia. That doesn't happen to movies that 'most people like fine.' There is no getting around this.

          Jesus you're in denial aren't you, who are these people besides the fanboys on sites like this and the handful of people you know in real like who like it? If people "liked it fine" then it wouldn't off had that drop, there's only one reason it had that huge drop and that was because people didn't like it, if reviews swayed people then why did it have a record breaking opening? Fact is and it is a fact that massive 2nd week drop proved the film didn't go down that well with people.

          As for the other two well SS had a fantastic marketing campaign and people love Harley and The Joker and the trailers made a point of those two. WW had fantastic reviews and trailers and wait for it.......fantastic word of mouth (something BvS never had) what had everyone on Twitter and stuff like that shouting about how great it was, all WW had was great press and it turned into an event film because of it.

            That's right. SS seemed to be 'fun,' with a soundtrack full of hit songs, and WW did not look anything like BvS. The trailer showed a bright blue sky, and a shimmering blue ocean! (No one had a BvS flashback seeing Diana dive off that cliff to save Steve Trevor.) That's how they succeeded post-BvS.

          Most of the people who saw BvS hated the film and told their friends and family to not watch it. Don't believe me? Check out the drop in box office revenue from the opening friday-sunday then check the 2nd weekend. Now tell me, do those results tell you that word of mouth was good or bad?

            You're wasting your time. This delirious dude keeps coming back with the "most people like it actually!" He doesn't get it that the film was frontloaded as fuck due to the premise, but once people realized just how shitty it really was, it started nose-diving, taking HUGE, unprecedented weekend-to-weekend drops.
