'Wonder Woman' director Patty Jenkins is a finalist for TIME's Person of the Year (update)

Update 12/6/17: On Wednesday, TIME announced The Silence Breakers (#MeToo movement) as Person of the Year.

2017 was a big year for Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot, and director Patty Jenkins. TIME took notice and included Jenkins in a big list of people that fans were able to vote on for their 2017 Person of the Year. Now the results are in, and Jenkins has made it to the top 10.

Here's a look at who Jenkins is up against for TIME's award:

  • Jeff Bezos - Amazon CEO
  • The Dreamers - thousands of undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. by their parents when they were children
  • Kim Jong Un - North Korean leader
  • Colin Kaepernick - former San Francisco 49ers quarterback
  • The #MeToo movement - aims to shed light on the prevalence of sexual harassment and assault
  • Robert Mueller - appointed as special counsel following FBI Director James Comey’s firing
  • Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman - recently led a sweeping crackdown on businessmen and members of the royal family accused of corruptio
  • Donald Trump - President of the United States
  • Xi Jinping - President of China

          I do. No one deeply cared here in German as American Football is only popular in very few countries. Those treat it as a religion of course. This case is obviously about race but it seemed to have been swallowed by the other anti-Trump things here.

            I saw one of the most fascinating headlines when Obama visiting Germany during his final month. "One last time among friends it read".

            Oh yeah, new new season of South Park went over this scandal, so i knew of it in some way, just not in connection to a singular person in the middle of it. Well, here he is.
            Edit: South Park started that storyline last season.

    My guess it's going to be between Kaepernick and the #Me Too Movement. Either way, its still a big accomplishment for Patty Jenkins to be in the top 10, amazing.

      Patty is the counterpoint to Me Too in a way and i think that the person who significantly cracks the Hollywood glass ceiling should win this one. She didn´t quite do that in the end but she may very well do that in 2019.

      Kaepernick’s movement only got headlines because Trump made an issue out of it. Kaepernick himself was not really a story because he was missing. Kneeling during the anthem vs. Trump was the story. #MeToo movement is huge but a sad movements. Jenkins is the mirror opposite and a positive story. If Person of the Year isn’t necessarily a positive thing the. I could vote for Kim. Everyone knows about him and what could really happen.

    Patty Jenkins should take total control of DCEU, make Snyder the executive Producer of all DCEU movies...he was the executive producer for most of the action sequences especially the slow-mo in the bell tower sequence...

          I agree. But i didnt tell them to hire snyder either. They made alot of mistakes in the past, and letting her take control this early on without her really proving herself with more than one movie will add more to the pile. Ww was the work of multiple ppl including snyder, geoff and etc. If ww2 hit 1 billion then yes, give her the keys.

      Not a bad proposition. I have to say, I like the idea of Patty having a head position in the DCU, similar to Kathleen Kennedy for Star Wars. I believe Kennedy is now President of Lucasfilm and executive producer of all Star Wars films... It'd be great to see Patty as Prez of the DCEU, have a say as executive producer in the cohesion of the DC Universe and still obviously be director of WW. I don't know that I completely feel that way about Snyder or if he will even be granted that position after everything that has already taken place. I doubt it. But one out of two isn't bad. If they do keep him on board, then yes, I'd make him executive producer like he was in Wonder Woman and do away with him directing any more DC Films. If DC has any hope of moving forward, we have to properly delegate our talent to their strengths and make these shifts from right now till we finally get all the pieces to our puzzle properly put in place.

      I never saw pacing as an issue in that movie, and if there was any, it was no where close to the first 30 minutes or so of JL and the theatrical cut of BvS. 3rd act could have been better but it wasn't bad. Really my main complaint was that I just wish the fight between Ares and WW had been longer. I also wish they had made it so that we couldnt see Ares face behind the helmet

      Because she's made two good movies in her career? Really? Sure WB and Snyder cooked up some boring stories but maybe she could be part of the creative team or a producer. She's hardly the Kevin Feige type.

    As much as the DC fan in me wants her to have it . There have been much bigger issues this year . I’m sure the the MeToo movement will take it although I hope they give it to trump to make even more people open their eyes to how completely oblivious this president is .

        I don't like Colin or the dreamers US based that no one outside the US even knows off so... Time of the year should be the most recognized globally and those two losers are not. and the hashtag movement that i have never heard of until now and I live in the US and muller not much know about him eithert) Those 4 should not win it at all. China, NK, Trump, Amazon, Saudi should have better chances.
        Most Americans and europeans or common folk don't care for saudi though and hardly know whats going on over there.

    MeToo will also likely win, as no one wants to have Trump win 4 times in a row, and non-personified moments did that a few times in the past.

      The cut was an incomplete rough draft. There was very little CGI in it. They're not going to release something that will cost WB more money when they're already financially sinking. They may add some unedited segments on the released DVD/download but that's about it.

    "Editors are asked to choose the person or thing that had the greatest impact on the news, for good or ill..."

    If it were up to me, I'd choose the #MeToo movement. If you're looking for an actual global impact.
