on Watch 'Arrow' actor Parker Young audition for Shazam's lead role

If you follow Shazam director David F. Sandberg on Instagram you know that he's deep in the pre-production process right now. With Shazam expected to start shooting early next year, he'll need to cast his lead actor soon.

Today, Omega Underground came across a Shazam audition video of Arrow actor Parker Young. The video was published by Young a week ago, and shows him acting out several scenes as Shazam with mentions of other heroes in the DC Extended Universe like Batman and Superman.

    Im not sure if he is good in Arrow he seems alright, but would not be my choice for Shazam. To me he doesnt really seem to have alot of depth

      I'm not sure that the character is one that comes with a lot of depth. He doesn't have a backstory of his own, he's a magical being who springs to life at the call of a magic word. The modern versions leave him with Billy's mind, so he has to play childlike rather than deep.

        ah dont know alot about Shazam thanks for telling me. I guess for the actor it comes off a little too childish for me but who knows

          that's the point. Ever see the movie "Big" with Tom Hanks? It's like that with superpowers.

    I don't even remember what he did on Arrow. Which season was that?

      10 episodes in the 2015-2016 Season 4. He played "Alex Davis".

      I guess he was... then I again, I don't remember that much from S4. Probably for the better.

      Oh yeah, that guy. He was a pretty forgettable character. I always thought he was going to be a villian but was only a random guy at the ending.

    Unlike other people, now that I have seen this... I see some serious potential and wouldn't mind him being cast as Shazam AT ALL.

      yeah I'm a long time fan of the Big Red Cheese and I thought he was just fine. This has to have a lot of good comedy moments in it and not be taken too seriously for it to work. Billy Batson's universe should be kept separate from the DCEU imo.

        For the very reasons that you said such as good comedy moments and not be taken as seriously, this is exactly why it needs to be a part of the DCEU. This is a character that's all about that and the DCEU doesn't really have anything like it. It's a great mix for the universe to have Shazam lighten up things and eventually be a part of the League and bring a new dynamic to the group. Everything that is DC on the big screen needs to stick together in the same universe.

    Captain Marvel is goofy and comedic. That's literally the character outside of a few issues and non canon appearances.

      Serious take? There is no serious take. Have you read the comics. It's even wackier and silly than this. This is nothing compared to the comics.

        Yeah Talking Tiger people, one of his main villains is a supergenius caterpillar.

    OK, now that I've seen it, two thoughts:
    1. MARY! Surprised she's heading for college already, but we don't know how old Billy's slated to be, either. Hopefully Billy shares the power with her by (or at) the end of the movie.

    2. That last "you do you" scene? I have a feeling that unlearning that is going to be a big part of Billy's arc in the movie. I hope it is, at least.

        Batista did ok in GOTG so why not give John a chance?...Also, Rock and Cena has great chemistry.

    I liked it. He doesn't necessarily look the part but that's still cool. I also liked the comedy of the script.

    A lot of casting calls actually do go through Vimeo, though (although they're usually password-protected). This isn't like the guy who was campaigning for Green Lantern; he seems to be reading real sides which makes me think this was intended for the casting directors and is a legit audition.

    He seems good for the role....but "cape crusader" "super man it" was a bit campy for my taste. I hope they don't use that kind of dialogue, but then again I don't know much about Shazam so it may seem fitting for his character.

      Shazam is a child who turns into a super hero. The character he is talking to is Freddy Freeman he becomes Captain Marvel, Jr.

        Oh cool, seems goood then, did not know all of that. I knew he was a child and stuff, just did not know those details. This seems like it would be a fun movie.

      i gotta say i actually liked the batman and superman references. Thats kind of the point. This is a kid who suddenly becomes a superhero. Its going to be a bit goofy at times.

    The perfect casting for this role would have been Warehouse 13's Eddie McClintock a decade ago. He's a bit old for the part now.

    He's not bad from what I've seen of Shazam in the new DC Justice League movies. Doesn't really look the part, at the moment but he's got the voice for the part at least. I'd watch it with him starring.

    I've watched every season of Arrow and oddly enough, I don't even remember what character he played in the show. He has a solid look for the part. A bit short for the role for my taste, especially with an eventual battle coming up in the sequel or something with Black Adam (6'5" The Rock). But even Cavill is a bit short for Supes standard height and he's still excellent. Hmmm...

    A possibility. Keep searching. Don't take too much longer though...
