Zack Snyder hasn't been involved in 'Justice League', says it'd be "unfair" to Joss Whedon

Zack Snyder released an R-rated short film, Snow Steam Iron, on the mobile social network Vero today. Wired caught up with the director to talk about it and what else he's been up to since stepping down from Justice League earlier this year after the tragic death of his daughter.

Snyder admitted that he hasn't been involved in Justice League since walking away from the project. He said it'd be "unfair in a lot of ways" to get involved again after being off of the movie for so long. Instead, he trusts that new Justice League director Joss Whedon and his team will produce a solid movie.

“I’m at a place where I feel excited about it and I’m happy for my guys and I love these people that are working on it, and they’re my family and I think they’re doing an amazing job,” Snyder said. "But I’ve kind of just let them do their thing.”

Zack Snyder pushed the superhero genre into cinematic art, which probably went over a lot of people's heads. Joss Whedon will probably make Justice League more accessible to the masses by giving it some fun campiness. 10 years from now Batman v Superman will be seen as a masterpiece in the genre, just like how Blade Runner was first released and everyone hated it because it was so depressing, and now it's seen as one of the most influential science fiction films... I understand and respect Zack for taking time to be away from the project. It was my desire that it would be his film and his vision from start to finish (before the loss of his daughter). I do hope he and his family are continuing to find strength and healing, and that he will continue to do what he loves, filming (when he feels he's up to do it in the near future).

He never said he was Doing it for Whedon. When he left the project they were still in that 5+ hour of footage stage, before they were going to work on team building reshoots, and THEN do the cutting for the final piece. Now later on Zack will most definitely release his own directors cut, because that made them another butt load of money.

But returning now, when they've already made cuts and started screening, would be a little chaotic, when you hadn't been a part of that entire process. They're still following Snyder's plans, but the final cut in theaters will be Geoff Johns and Joss Whedon's baby. Albeit completely from Snyder's work. Which isn't to say this is Whedon's movie. He's just likely one of the main men working on the cutting room floor.
