Margot Robbie praises possible 'Joker and Harley Quinn' directors

Last month we learned that Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are in talks to write and direct a Joker and Harley Quinn movie starring Jared Leto and Margot Robbie. One thing I didn't realize back then was that Robbie has a lot of experience working with the duo.

Glenn Ficarra and John Requa directed Margot Robbie in 2015's Focus which co-starred Will Smith, as well as 2016's Whiskey Tango Foxtrot which Robbie starred in with Tina Fay. SuperHeroHype caught up with Robbie at a recent press event, and asked for her thoughts on possibly teaming with Ficarra and Requa for a third time on Joker and Harley Quinn.

“I heard that too,” Robbie said of the Joker and Harley Quinn movie news. “They’re great! It’s fun working with a directing duo, and I love them. I’ve obviously done two films with them so I think they’re just brilliant. I’m personally a sucker for a love story. In any iteration. I think people enjoy seeing two characters who, in Harley and Joker’s case, would die for one another. It’s kind of romantic in a messed up way.”

Big fan of 'Focus', and shows the chemestry between Smith and Margot are huge. 'Mad Love' is in very competent hands.

Yeah it didn't get a lot of love, but I really liked Focus too! I loved the scene where Will Smith kept gambling at the football game.

My GF at the time kept that time kept teasing me if I was staring at Robbie's ass when she was wearing a swimsuit in the film. God, that was a fine ass.

  My mistake was watching Wolf of Wall Street with my wife and exclaiming "Holy Shit!" when I saw Robbie standing naked in the doorway.
  She didn't quite buy my, "no, I said 'surely fit' because she looks like she does a lot of working out."

    Lmao. I almost had that moment when I was watching Furious 7 with my GF and we were watching the beach scene where Nathalie Emmanuel's character is wearing a bikini. I could feel my GF looking at me with that shit-eating grin on her face.

  I'm not sure there's a difference between your assessment & the opposing assessment. They're saying it'll be great; you are saying it'll be a bucket of suck.
  Both are knee jerk reactions based on nothing really. I believe the "sane" thing is wait until the movie is filmed & released to make an assessment based on a final product.

What's important is that they find a genre or theme to hold it together. Like it's a heist movie with them two pulling something off, something that makes it ABOUT something. What I hated about suicide squad was that there's nothing underlying you can care about, it isn't about anything! They're just running around and there's nothing to care for

The fact that the mission - to rescue the person in the tower - is practically forgotten by the time they get to the tower is a big miss in that film, and so the ironic twist that it's actually Waller's sorry ass they've been sent to die for doesn't land as well as it should. I enjoyed the film, but that's probably my biggest regret in it, moreso than the Joker-Harley narrative change.

What they should do is get this engine out of first gear. JL is going to ride the momentum of WW...then nearly a year until the next movie. There's more jibber jabber about what's coming down the pike then there is actual movement on them.

I don't think joker would actually die for Harley Quinn, though she would die for him because she basically has Stockholm syndrome while he treats her like a likeable attraction to be in possession of and to toy with. But sure, hot topic romance is what we're getting sooo better get used to it.

The key thing will be depicting Joker as more of a formidable, evil, and ruthless villain, than a...pussy-whipped lover boy. If Joker and Harley: Mad Love is set in Gotham, and Batman, Batgirl, Catwoman, or Poison Ivy aren't the protagonists. This is why I don't like their dynamics. Joker would never die for Harley. He would merely make her believe he would, at best. This is supposed to be a highly abusive relationship, not some twisted romantic fantasy. That's just stupid.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Joker actually loves Harley. Him loving her doesn't necessarily have to change the abusive nature of their relationship.
We are talking about comic-book characters here.

  Mehh... He tolerates her because she's fun to him. Should he ever grow bored of her, there's no doubt he'd even kill her without second thought. That's not really something you could call "love", be it abusive or otherwise.

Well, that was what they showed in Suicide Squad. The Joker took many risks to save Harley and since no reason was presented for him to do what he was doing then we can assume whatever we want, although it seemed that was for love. Their kisses showed that.
All the movie was about saving her. He turned off the nano-bomb; did the helicopter rescue; entered in a high-security prison just to save her; saved her in the Chemical Tank Scene
Even in the car crash, we can say that he run off in order to be able to save her later.
In the torture scene, instead of pain, Harley had romantic deliriums. The Joker is so good that even his torture is romantic.
Everything was romantic in SS! That was not what was in the original film, but that was what we got.
In order to make some sense in future spin-offs, the relationship has to start as romantic in order to not have a completely different approach as the one showed in SS. They can change the type of relationship has the story development goes by.

This is low on the totem pole of priorities for me. I don't care about this film. In my view, it's completely unnecessary. If you want to make a "superhero couple film", use these directors to make Hawkman/Hawkwoman. I mean, i get it. People know and love the Joker and Harley Quinn, but still...let's continue growing the Universe rather than continually going back to the same characters.

Spoke to 3 people who attended the #JusticeLeague test screening. They loved it! "Epic". One person didn't like BvS/SS but loved JL.
