'Suicide Squad 2' production not expected to start until late 2018, at the earliest

Warner Bros. has been searching for a Suicide Squad 2 director all year, with the hopes of getting the movie started sooner rather than later. According to a new report, they're probably going to have to wait a bit longer.

Variety's Justin Kroll's sources say that Suicide Squad 2 won't go into production until the fall of 2018, at the earliest. The reason? Will Smith will be busy with Disney's Aladdin (he's playing the Genie) and another movie called Gemini Man.

So hearing at the earliest, SUICIDE SQUAD 2 won't go in to production until fall 2018 because of Smith's schedule with ALADDIN and GEMINI

That means Suicide Squad 2 probably won't hit theaters until 2020, and movies like The Joker and Harley Quinn spinoff and Gotham City Sirens will be even further out than some fans had hoped.

As of right now, Wonder Woman is the only movie with a confirmed 2019 release date. Though Shazam is expected to be released sometime in 2019 as well.

      This is low hanging fruit. Why is there this false assumption that if someone has an issue with Snyder's version he/she didn't have the same issue before?
      The problem with those compilation videos is the creator incorporates unconfirmed kills to make his/her point. The videos get oversaturated with bull shit to be a solid source to cite.
      There have only been 2 Batman directors who've claimed to be giving us the comic book version of the character. And although I disliked the version, at least Schumacher's movies had a chunk of the history to claim its based upon. Snyder's is based on snippets of the history.
      I still prefer Nolan's version, but just like Burton's version, Batman used live rounds of ammunition. For the record, I never liked it in those movies either.

  The 67% drop was very small for fooling the public.
  Neither I nor my friends went to see Suicide Squad after we learned that more than half of the trailer footage had been cut, especially the Joker. A friend of mine managed to hack the movie. WB was dishonest with us and we followed the example.
  Well anyway, the movie was a commercial success, although not the critical success that could have been if had kept the original film but WB preferred to change the movie in post production in order to make a popcorn movie and sell a lot of merchandise and thus ensure the upcoming movies were popcorn movies as well.

I loved Jared and Margot together. They had a great chemistry even in the few very fast, very short and very fucked up scenes they had.
This film will be about the two and so they can steal all the scenes, unlike the suicide squad. The suicide squad is a Will Smith's Movie and a Will Smith's movie the star has to be Will Smith without any doubt.

    Most of this recent so-called DC movies has no official announcement or acknowledgement. Even if some folks at WB thinking about this movies until they announce them they are still just Rumors.

    400 million(produce + market) spend on a movie that only made $668 million.Do you realize how big of a financial disaster that is.There wasn't any profit but only loss.That's why they spend three years, Hired a oscar winner and included Batman, Wonder Woman on so called Man of steel sequel.That's how big of a disaster it was.
    Studio only make 1/2 of box office gross in north america and 1/3 of box office gross in foreign markets.Now, Calculate and see the disaster.
    Also, It was a critical disaster and received badly by both audience and reviewers.

    Such a heartbreaking scene really showed how powerful a cartoon can be when done properly. Hope Young Justice can bring some of that back to DC animation so bare right now for TV. I know they have the live action which is all good and everything i like it but i still prefer the animated versions of most characters.

Why are people complaining about a sequel ? Go somewhere else with that dumb shit so what the first movie was a missed opportunity, they can make a better film then the last one and that's all that matters. There's a lot of potential for a sequel and new characters they can bring the issue with the last one was the script only having 6 weeks to be worked on and that won't be the case here. And for all the talk about the movie sucking the cast was excellent and the chemistry with these characters was great , get a new director and a good script hopefully an R rating and this can be a great movie

Because resources (most importantly time) are limited. Making a big movie is a multi-year process. In addition to the financial cost of SS2, there's the opportunity cost of what WB/DC can't make because they're tied up trying to fix past mistakes.

And I've always found the concept of a bad guy fighting another bad guy for reasons other than moral disagreement fascinating. One, you are assigning unnecessary artificial boundaries to the villains. A villain could be a hero of his own story, and we may enjoy watching it, while fully aware that the villain is not a hero at all. Two, it corresponds to reality, as the in-fighting within the "evil" community of the world happens all the time. Third, it provides entertainment value that's off the charts. When you see a hero battling a villain, there's always restriction. Hero goes out of his way to minimize damage to the surroundings. Two villains would bulldoze innocents, and it can be a glorious spectacle a-la Tarantino. And that's the bottom line, those kinds of movies primarily aim at entertainment value, not substance. And that's fine.

  So, if a sub-story is ok, then what's wrong with a standalone? Technically, the only difference is run time. I see nothing wrong with a movie purely for entertainment, if it knows what it is, and sells itself as such.
  You're not a fan of Tarantino, are you? His movies are all for spectacle only. There is no message or point to them. They are amusement rides.
  How about anime? You watch it at all? I can give you a few examples of acclaimed and all-around loved villain-centric stories with themes and deep character development, the most famous of which are Death Note and Hellsing.

I can't believe people aren't pumped to at least potentially see Black Manta and/or Deathstroke in a Squad movie, or their favorite characters from the first one readdressed or expanded on.
The first movie might have rubbed people wrong to some dramatic degree, but the sequel still has a lot of room to be awesome and redeeming. Shame the world is so hostile right now.

Why are people so overly critical of Suicide Squad? It's no different than Marvel's Gaurdians of the Galaxy. One is given a free pass (GOG) while the other (SS)is being hit with over the top criticism and venomous hate from the marvel troll hounds. Like it or not there is a market and need for SS. It made a ton of money, inspite, of the bashing from critics and DC haters. What DC got right were the relatable characters and diverse casting. Meanwhile, Gaurdians has intergalactic spongebob slapstick aliens. Marvel's version of diverse casting, they cast minority actors only if they are covered up with alien makeup. We're not getting most of them regardless. Right now Aquaman (2018) and Wonder Woman 2 (2019) are the only post JL films with release dates. Fast tracking SS2 pushes another title back, making it less likely to happen.

    No, but pushing things back introduces risk. More chance someone changes their mind or has to drop out, a release date becomes more competitive, an exec leaves the project, etc. I'd prefer to see all of those before SS2, btw.

I would kind of like to see a soft-reboot of sorts. Bring back the characters, keep it in continuity, but take the story in a different direction. Make it a black-ops thriller almost with a little comedy on the side. I still want to see the team in a more grounded mission.

For me, the only wackiness should come from the team itself, with the rest of the movie playing like a serious espionage mission. Something along the lines of Mission Impossible would be great in my eyes.

I'd probably bring back Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Rick Flag, and Katana while adding Deathstroke and Plastique for example. I hope I enjoy this Suicide Squad movie. The last one let me down.

Will Smith as Deadshot is one of the worst DC casting. Everytime he appeared in Suicide Squad, it takes me out of the movie, as flashes of Prince of Belair / Men in Black / Pursuit of Happiness flash in my mind. IMO famous A-list actors should never play a role in a superhero movie. This includes George Clooney and Ben Affleck.
