Marvel's Chris Hemsworth says 'Wonder Woman' is his favorite movie of the year

MTV's Josh Horowitz caught up with Marvel's Thor star Chris Hemsworth at Comic-Con last weekend. Horowitz teased Hemsworth about another popular actor named Chris (Pine) who is having an amazing year, and asked if Thor: Ragnarok could help him become the top Chris.

"I have such love and admiration for all Chris' on the planet and all superheroes, including Wonder Woman," Hemsworth teased before getting serious. "I think that's my favorite film this year. It's incredible. They did such a good job."

You have to appreciate his honesty, considering Marvel released two big superhero movies of their own this year. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was released in May, and Spider-Man: Homecoming came out earlier this month.

    Legion of Doom will be JL3 or they can do the crime syndicate DC has so many good stories to choose from I just hope WB learn their lessons and let the directors tell the stories they wanna tell and keep pushing the boundaries and trying new things creatively because I don't want them to be copying the same shit marvel does , just be true to your characters , tell good stories with good directing and screen play and they will be successful, I just read an article on Screen rant saying that going forward Snyder will have a diminished role in the DCEU and I will be really mad because he has a great vision and I love his visuals and action plus he casted Gal as WW and Ben as Batman and Aquaman etc

  I know these dates aren't real, but imagine that, a Man of Steel sequel almost a full decade after the original.
  By the way, at SDCC WB/DC announced 9 movies (a few of which will be shuffled out, like it has happened with the on-and-off announcements of a Black Adam movie, or a Lobo movie, Cyborg, etc.) nothing for the former flagship character.
  edit: I don't know what I was thinking. No Superman movie at all is better than another Man of Steel. My mistake.

Hmm. Wonder Woman would probably get my vote out of those 3 movies (which stings because Spidey was one of the characters I grew up on...then again, Homecoming didn't feel like Spider-man). Hemsworth didn't limit to just those 3 in his comment. I think Logan still edges out WW as my favorite of the year.

  I agree. Homecoming just didn't quite feel like Spiderman, but a lot of people are saying this is the definitive version of the character on screen. I don't think so. It really seems more styled after a modern version of the character from more recent comics. This just doesn't feel like the Peter I read growing up.

    Agreed I watched it twice trying to make myself like it but it wasn't that interesting to me I like Tom holland as Spider-Man and peter Parker , I liked vulture and the different web combinations I didn't like the suit being almost iron man like with AI was stupid , Spider-Man is a genius he should be able to figure out how to use his powers on his own I do think they will get to that point where he has a falling out with stark and starts to be his own man , but as far as the movie it was ok nothing special not better then the first or second one with Toby Maguire and Spider-Man is my fav marvel character then Wolverine and Cap

      100% on the AI suit thing. I didn't care for it, but you're right, they'll probably have him make his own suit that'll be more classic. We'll see.

    I blame that on 2 important factors; no "great power..."/Uncle Ben presence, & his super suit. It felt more like Spider-man when Pete went back to his homemade suit.
    I contribute the general consensus to short-term memories, it's connection to Marvel Studios, & the diverse casting.

      People are split on the diverse casting I can see why.
      I blame part of the diverse cast on Amy pascal and Avi arab (Sony producers) who choose color of skin over the actor acting ability and relative needs of the character personality like for example they had the worst flash ever in homecoming made him into some jealous rival and try to make him into a wannabe is so boring and uninspiring and really irked the fans.
      There was also lack of daily bugle and oscorp references.

        I didn't mind the diversity. Pete's in school in Queens; it makes sense. I had more issues with the portrayal of Flash Thompson. You're right, this version just wasn't good.
        Though, like with Wonder Woman, it got a lot of play because it's important to some people.

        I liked liz portray even if she was a bit bland. Michelle had some good points and very bad points the whole rebellious against the authority blah blah stuff like at the Washington monument was not needed and uncalled for in a marvel movie.

      Well, to be fair, the whole point of the movie was to show that he was Spider-Man with or without that super suit. Hell, he even rejects an even superior suit at the end of it, and refuses to join them because he just wants to protect his home town. That's very spiderman-ish if you ask me.
      I do agree on the Uncle Ben's presence, but I get why they didn't include it.

        I did see how "with great power comes great responsibility" was the theme here, if you look at the suit as the "power." To some extent, it was like Stark in IM3 "you can away my house, and my toys, ..."
        There were several times in the movie I thought of Jack Burton from Big Trouble in a Little China. A movie from the sidekick's point of view. Peter just felt like Stark's sidekick.
        I actually thought his bit in Civil War portrayed a better version of the character.

        Well, he is young, unexperienced and overly excitable. Stark wanting Peter to be careful and call him instead of going nuts is great. I loved that the movie was very small and had smaller-ish villains. I do agree, I dislike seeing Peter with a suit like that (though him having that super suit in Infinity War makes perfect sense), but it did serve the character really well, since it showed us it was the Peter Parker people want him to be, only he is just learning all of this. But still, I loved that decision in the end. I was really worried, then I kinda saw where it was going and was relieved that he made that decision. Makes me hopeful for this franchise now, just don't have the suit talk to him and stuff... That's been done, now let Peter do it himself.

People that bitch about DCEU being too dark annoys the hell out of me , of course the movies are gonna be dark your dealing with life and death and fighting evil to save the world with super powered beings I love the tone of the DCEU and the tone was always gonna shift to a more hopeful tone regardless that was always the plan but there has to be a balance WW was the perfect balance not too comedic nothing was forced people will complain that superman is too dark would have been the first to complain that superman is boring if Zack went the superman returns route Mos was the birth, BvS was the death and JL is the rebirth of superman the confident , hopeful do what's right because its right superman and I blame only WB for all of the problems or perception of problems that the DCEU had with BvS and SS because they had to have their hands all over the shit and edit the movies horribly

    I disagree. Dark Knight trilogy's comparison with BvS is not right comparison. Dark Knight trilogy was serious but BvS is not only serious, it was uncomfortable for fans and casual Superhero audience. It's kinda comparable to Blade Runner. People felt uncomfortable with that Movie. I not mean that it will become classic like Blade Runner.
    About Suicide Squad. I not like that Movie. I only watch it one time so can't comment on it. But GENERAL AUDIENCE enjoyed it because of JOKES.

  What? Gadot is amazing during interviews. As is Momoa. Most of the others are constantly under scrutiny. If you were being praised by someone you would have more of an opportunity to be cool and charismatic. When under scrutiny or tough questioning you answer questions differently. You are more reserved. You have less of an opportunity to be "cool and charismatic."
  Marvel actors are given different opportunities to act themselves than DC actors. Think about context and circumstances!

Chris Hemsworth, is an amazing human being. In the midst of his fame and fortune, he seems to have a way of keeping his feet on the ground. Even when being interviewed by this manic idiot. I'm not sure what direction the interviewer wanted the conversation to go. He was all over the place, with his questioning and elementary remarks, yet Hemsworth, managed to remain the perfect gentleman, and his answers were never demeaning, which the interviewer seemed to invite the contrary. Wonder Woman is a great film and my favorite up to this point of the year. However, Thor Ragnarok, I'm anticipating will be amazing. I couldn't be more hyped for any other film this year, and there are some great movies on the horizon before the years end. As well I'm anticipating Justice League, November will be epic!

Good for Hemsworth, but I personally thought these 2017 films were better:
Dunkirk (Chris Nolan's best film since Inception IMO),
War for the Planet of the Apes (best of the trilogy),
Baby Driver (Edgar Wright has done it again!),
The Big Sick (best rom com I've seen in years),
Logan (best X-Men film for me)
Get Out (great horror film for a first-time director!)
Come to think of it, I feel 2017 is turning out to be a great year for movies thus far. I mean, we had these films, Wonder Woman, Guardians Vol. 2, Lego Batman, Spider-Man Homecoming. All of these were good, hell even Captain Underpants was pretty good (mainly because the kids movies this year haven't been all that neat, though). Sure, Alien Covenant was somewhat disappointing and we have had utter shit like Transformers 5, Mummy, Rings, and Fifty Shades Darker, but still a much better year for films than 2016.

He can actually write damn good characters, insert them into an actually funny or entertaining situation without sacrificing logic or making it all stupid if you actually have your brain on.

    I presume you didn't see the other films I listed? Cause there's a reason I put the CBMs other than Logan as honorable mentions. It's cause the best films of this year so far are not CBMs.
    Spider-Man Homecoming was fine IMO. It had some great things in it (including one of the best MCU villains), but for me what dragged it down were some horrendous casting choices and the terribly executed action scenes.

    It's tough, because he tried to establish a connection with the characters through their dilemma, not through the use of dialogue. I'm not convinced it completely worked.
    It's actually a great example in showing the importance of human relationships through dialogue - something Nolan is usually flawless in handling.

WW is great and all but i don´t expect her to make my top 10 by year´s end. Lego Batman should be on it though. I hope that Thor 3 will make that list, as it sure looks mighty.

    Yeah, I know a few have had potshots at BvS. But MCU seem to be much more courteous towards DC than the opposite. Feige was very diplomatic during Comic-Con, while I bristled a little at Ezra Miller's petty comments about "are there other comic houses?".
    Sure, have friendly jibes, but DC sometimes comes across as more insecure.

And I'm pretty sure that Ezra was just having fun as well. These actors and the head of guys of both studios are just having. There's no reason to get riled up at hearing a few jabs. And Johns even complimented Feige and his work with Marvel.

        Sure, Marvel have had potshots, but at least you can point to plenty of examples of their graciousness and magnanimity. DC stars could learn that instead of being so defensive and bitchy.
        It just makes us look small-minded and insecure.

        I don't understand why this is being made into a big issue. My point is pretty clear.
        DC stars tend to make sweeping attacks on Marvel/MCU, (Ayer and Miller) while Marvel, although they taken potshots at DC, have balanced this by being effusive at times too.
        As I said at the very start, it would be nice if some DC stars complimented Marvel now and then. There's nothing wrong in reciprocating a compliment. Spread the love.

        Nope. If you read the very first comment I decry the lack of DC stars that have come out and lauded Marvel. That maybe a difficult pill to swallow, but it would be nice to pay a compliment, much like how Chris paid a compliment (despite it probably not being true).

        But you mentioned that Cavil has said nice things. And I brought up that Johns praised Feige. So that balances everything out for now. I don't think most of the actors from Marvel have said anything nice or mean about DC.

        Cavil praised the actors. Johns praised his friend Feige. Neither were directed at Marvel or their movies.
        Once again, my point is about saying nice things towards the franchises and films.
        Why is that so controversial?

        But aren't Feige and the actors a part of Marvel? Feige's work made Marvel into the juggernaut that it is today. And Johs even praised the Panther trailer. And the actors also have done a noteworthy job as well for making the characters memorable for casual audiences.
        So in a sense, Marvel has received praised from DC. And you haven't talked about the numerous times Anthony Mackie bashed DC films. And when RDJ was talking about TDK, he ended the conversation with saying "You know what? F-ck DC comics. That’s all I have to say and that’s where I’m really coming from.”

        That seems to be Mackie's character. He's always moaning about Tom Holland and Spiderman too. And again, read the whole RDJ quote, it's clear he's being sarcastic at the end since everything befor eit is a compliment.
        When was the last time anyone from DC complimented any of the 16 MCU movies? They may not be everyone's cup of tea but they are successful.
        I'll say it again, Marvel have come out and said good things about the DCEU films, DC have never actually given a compliment for any of the MCU films, or their success over the ten years
        Why is this so difficult for you to accept?

        I never said it was difficult for me to accept. The only film that Marvel actors have praised is WW, and mainly because of it's noteworthy success. If Captain Marvel had come out first, I'm pretty that DC actors would be praising the studio. Hell, I'm betting that Ray Fisher and/or Geoff Johns is gonna praise Marvel once Black Panther is out.
        And again, I brought Geoff Johns not only praising Feige, but also the BP trailer, GotG 2, and Agents of Shield. Both studios give each other praises. It may not be all the dang time, but both are generally professional towards each other.

        Saying the only films that Marvel have praised is WW is like wondering why critics only said good things about WW. There's a reason for it. Besides, Sebastian Stan actually liked BvS. The rest of your comments are conjecture.
        As for Johns, again, he praised a trailer and said he was excited for GotG2, and only because he was provoked by Gunn who complimented DC first.
        So, 16 MCU fims in. How many compliments have those films and the MCU itself received?

    Well no. She had zero to say about Avengers. All she said was "no" in relation to JL being better than Avengers - that's a diss on JL, not Avengers.
    In any case, her publicist said she's never even seen Avengers, so it's a stretch to call this a compliment.
