Earlier this year we learned that The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay was in talks to direct a live-action Nightwing movie. McKay has since seemed to confirm the news, because he hasn't been shy about talking about the movie on social media.

McKay is such a big Nightwing fan that he said he's going to be getting a Nightwing tattoo soon to go along with a Catwoman tattoo he already has. He then showed his passion for the character in a series of tweets.

A fan then said that they hope the Nightwing actor loves the character as much as McKay, and he stated that it's requirement due to all of the martial arts, gymnastics, and stunts that the role will require.

It's great to see a director this passionate about a movie. Hopefully we get some more official Nightwing news soon.

    For me 'The LEGO Batman Movie' was a humorous and emotional love letter to the Bat-Universe. See him talk all this things about Nightwing just not show how he understood about that universe but how respecful and a fan of Nightwing he is. I need see his movie ASAP, hope for some concrete news at SDCC.

      bought the movie on 3d blu ray. It has such a damn high rewatch factor, maybe it gets a little bit to cheesy at the end but still good

    Like Matt Reed, he knows the character well. I guess we won't get the casting new on who play movie Nightwing at least until end of the year.

    Honestly, whether or not the actor who eventually plays him is a "fan", is completely irrelevant. With the exception of Ryan Reynolds, actors really don't give a shit about the source material, and that's completely fine.

      I agree, Hugh Jackman didn't read comic book and has been the best Wolverine ever (people are going to remember him like the Christopher Reeve for Superman).

      Chris Pine, he didn't know anything about Steve Trevor, he's not a comic book reader but he's a great actor.

      People pay more attention when a "no-killing-rule" man is killing, but some ways of killing is acceptable, remember.

    That's gonna be difficult. It would be hard to find someone just as passionate with close-to-similar looks as Nightwing for the role.

    They just need a good-to-great actor who sort of looks like Mr. Grayson and have him prep for a whole year with comics and training. Choreographed martial arts + parkour + gymnastic acrobatic looking flips. Give all the Olympic level looking gymnastic flips to the stunt guys. Oh and one more thing, he'll need to squat for every 3 days (for the whole year) to get that famous ass lmao.

    Yes!!! Nightwing is one of my top 3 favorite superheroes, along with Superman and Wonder Woman. I hope they find the right actor to play Dick Grayson and also that we get a fantastic movie 😀

    That's exciting, with these conditions whoever is cast will have his work cut out for him physically and most likely eliminates most 30 something actors, should be interesting. I Love the character and can't wait to see who gets the role, I just hope he wears the blue costume over the red.

    This is only good news. Nightwing is on my top 3 favorite comicbook characters and I'm glad we'll get a movie about him. Sounds like the director has a very clear idea of what he wants to do, just like reeves with Batman. can't wait to see what they do. Very curious to see who they cast.

    Although my love for Batman has been immense, I'm beginning to prefer Nightwing as a character. I think he is the most balanced, likable, and cool dude in all of comics. And he is in perfect hands.

    Love that he's emphasizing a lot on the martial arts & gymnastics/acrobatics of the character, I really want to see some balls to the walls martial arts & especially the gymnastics/acrobatics from the world's greatest acrobat~

    Can anyone who understands filmmaking explain to me why the actor needs to practice martial arts/parkour? Don't they always get stunt-doubles anyway? What's the point? I first noticed it with Andrew Garfield, he said he did a lot of parkour training, for what?

      It's all just PR nonsense. Most of them never do their stunts or even move a muscle.

        That is not always true. Tom Holland as Spiderman did wear the suit and perform some acrobatics or fighting. That said most of the it was CGI and stuntmen. The actor for Nightwing might be required to do some acrobatics and fighting.

          Ben Affleck did none of the fighting, yet look at how many people still praise him for the action sequences. Performing those types of things is completely unnecessary.

      Because they get sick of the Twitterverse saying "I could totally tell when they used the stunt double. Why can't they do their own stunts? Pussies."

      Love that this guy was talking about his evolution from Robin... that was mostly 70's stuff, from his leaving for college in Batman #217 (Dec. 1969) through the reveal of Nightwing in July 1984, during The Judas Contract.

      It sounds like they need a male Caity Lotz with acrobatics training?

      Well, if Brandon Lee was alive (RIP), he would have 52 years old. It's much older than Ben Affleck's Batman.

        I know, but what I mean is that if Brandon Lee were alive and he was 28 (age of his death), he would have been perfect for the character. Since actors similar to Nightwing and who know martial arts, there is almost no.

    Zack Efron fits the looks, athleticism and attitude for this. But I could also see it being Jake Glynnehal because he is extremely versatile.

    I actually thought about who could play Nightwing myself. Then I went to see "War for the Planet of the Apes", and I noticed a particular trailer - Kingsman 2.

    So we are looking for a guy in his 20's, fits the acrobat mold and can also fight with crazy gadgets and is able to pull off looking like a normal dude at the pub/bar. Plus he is British, which means he can probably act. Who I am talking about is Taron Edgerton - he may not be obvious but he checks off a lot of boxes for me.

    There may be some other actors, but Taron can definitely carry the Nightwing franchise and also can tag along. His young, confident, and relaxed vibe seems very Dick Grayson to me. All that is left here is to see what sort of chemistry he would have with Affleck. Thoughts?

    Since Ben affleck's batman is pretty old, I'd say nightwing would have to be in his late 20s in the movie. They should cast accordingly.

      Depends on when Geoff johns and reeves decide where they are gonna start their trilogy at....they can make Ben younger and tell some before bvs stories

    It will be really tough to find someone passionate about the character and actually look like like Dick Grayson. Grayson kind of feels like he has that everyman quality in comics but he's not easy to pinup next to just any actor. I've heard in the past Milo Ventimigilia, Matt Bomer, and my #1 personal pick is Sean Faris but do they know the character that well, doubt it. Ideally that would be great but I don't really need you to be passionate about the character. I do need you to understand and fully embrace the character when you play him though and then you can be passionate about developing the character afterwards and get attached. That's what good actors do. But I do hope they get the ball rolling on this if they are serious. I don't want this to be a Shazam kind of thing, where we just talk and don't do nothing about it.
