Earlier today, Screen Rant reported that Wonder Woman 2 will take place in the 1980s during the Cold War, and now The Wrap has come out and confirmed it with their own sources. Gal Gadot will be facing off against the Soviet Union this time around.

What's more interesting is that Screen Rant says that Chris Pine will be returning as Steve Trevor. Spoiler alert... he died in Wonder Woman, so it'll be interesting to see how they bring him back if that turns out to be true.

DC Films president Geoff Johns recently confirmed that he's working on the Wonder Woman 2 story with Patty Jenkins, though she's still negotiating a deal to return to direct the sequel as well. Perhaps they can get it done by Comic-Con, which will have a big DC Films panel on Saturday, July 22nd.

      There's no doubt that Snyder wove many layers of symbolism throughout the films in question. However, the effectiveness of subtlety is in large parts defined by the perspective of the viewer. Whereas one person might watch the film and be completely unawares that Superman is an allegorical figure for Jesus, another person might feel that the message is entirely too heavy handed. In essence, subtlety is not an inherent quality found in all instances of Symbolism.

        It's the fault of whoever actually wrote WW which we now know wasn't Zack whose treatment was only used as a bare-bones framework.

      I don't see how that's a valid response to this problem, but ok. Guess when I have a son and he flunks at a course or something I'll get solace at knowing that someone else did as well, right?
      This is also kind of a bigger deal than most of those in that list.

    No. Wonder Woman's arc (entry into the world of men - frustration and retirement - Superman's death and return) is one of the most interesting things of this DCEU. What is dumb is to deny more or less that developmentfor because rea$on$.

      Well it goes against the character's beliefs from what we now know, and now it's a clean up game for those paying attention. The casual movie goer won't even remember it tho.

    Honestly I hope they just retcon that cus at this point I only trust what Patty Jenkins says lol. Besides, aside from "MARTHA!!" I doubt anyone really remembers any lines from BvS.

  maybe the fight won't be in the human world as in the 1st WW movie , probably this time the humanity will take the fight to Themyscira . something similar to Kong : Skull Island .

  Maybe they will aproach that in a more "metaphorical" way, maybe she lost trust and faith in humanity, but not for that she wont protect us.

    Even if that were true, she was shown to be leaping around in her armor around Paris, presumably up until the moments of BvS and there isn't a single picture of her since the one in WWI? She isn't the Flash!

  Yes! And WW messed up that continuity too. If she trusts in a light within the darkness of men then she shouldn't have said man made a world where standing together is impossible.
  Perhaps they plan to show that in the sequel? But then it wouldn't be a hundred years ago.

  I am strongly against this. This would just be as weird as Captain America falling in love with his first love's. The only way I can accept the return of Chris Pine is if they do a flashback cameo or a temporary reunion via Hades or something.

I'm curious what she will have been doing for WW II. I trust the director but I feel like the Cold War is better for spies and that's not her. Again, definitely trust johns and he director so I'm excited.

  In the late 60s and early 70s, a depowered Wonder Woman served as a spy. This could be a nod to that era of the character. Granted, an audience that enjoys action based entertainment might not find a spy thriller all that compelling, so you do run the risk of alienating some of the individuals that enjoyed the first film, but I think a spy thriller with Diana Prince at the heart of it could be quite engaging.

  I think they're tryin' to decide how to do the sequel to Man of Steel, with Snyder's current situation (may his family continue find comfort), and the audiences' reaction to Wonder Woman.
  DC/WB will probably do a lot of changes to make it feel more "Marvelish", less Snyder/Nolan, and then figure who will write and direct the sequel that is not Snyder (as Man of Steel left people divided - though I loved Man of Steel, feel it's still the best DCEU film).
  I just hope they do the film justice.

I do not like this at all.
First of all, I really wish they would go to the present day already, because Diana even said in BvS that she stopped fighting after the events of World War I took place, and she only fought again when Doomsday came back 100 years later.
Second off, Chris Pine coming back as Steve Trevor would completely ruin his emotional sacrifice, and what Diana had to go through as a result of that.
And third of all, Soviets? Really? I want Wonder Woman to fight an actual comic book villain of hers, like Cheetah.
Hopefully it will work out fine, though, and I love it, like I love the first Wonder Woman movie.

  That's exactly right. So essentially, she walks away from humanity in the beginning of the century, then she skips the Holocaust, then comes back in the 80s, then walks away again, then comes back in the early 21 century. This is retardation.

    It's possible that, with Ludendorff dead, Hitler never came to power on Earth-DCEU (he was apparently instrumental in banging the drum that Jews and weak-willed politicians were at fault for Germany's loss of WWI, and backed Hitler in the Beer Hall Putsch). If that were the case, WWII probably still would have happened just because of the punishing terms of the Armistice, but possibly with a more normal German regime in charge rather than the Nazis. And without the clear evil of the Third Reich and no Holocaust going on, the war becomes just another mess humanity got itself into, and maybe Diana doesn't take direct action (perhaps becomes a wartime nurse instead). It's all speculative historical fiction, of course, but it seems like a valid possibility.

      In the movie the war was about to end, it was a lost cause- stopping Ludendorff was just one rogue faction. Hitler still exist later.

    Oh, sorry! I meant Steve Trevor. Apparently, he died in the movie and he's going to be in the sequel. I figured she could see him in Hades (the place) or Hades could some how bring him back.

      There is something stated in the movie that makes it unlikely Hades could bring him back. But then again, I could see a loophole where Hades is concerned.
      I can think of several entities that could have rescued Steve from that plane, though: the Spectre, the Phantom Stranger....

        Ah, thanks! It would be crazy to see Spectre interact with Greek Mythology characters. It's probably been done in the comics, but all I really know is Batman, X-Men, and Spider-man.

      It could be that Zeus had saved Steve at the last moment, either by taking him to Olympus, either to Temiscira or to any other place. In any case, I have the same feeling as many people here. I loved this Steve Trevor and the performance of Chris Pine, but his resurrection does not favor the arc of any character, Steve's or Diana's.
      In a way it betrays what we saw in BvS about Diana, which to me seemed sufficiently original and intelligent to be respected. Patty Jenkins has stated that for the WW sequel Diana should step on American soil. And she should do it, IMO, as Wonder Woman, not like the unknown Diana separated from humanity. That is, the action should be placed after BvS, not before. It's in BvS, in the aftermath of Superman's death, when she recovers her role as protector of mankind.

      It is even more strange this rumor, considering that the end and beginning of "Wonder Woman" (Diana receiving the photograph and jumping on the Parisian skyline) takes place today. That is, after BvS.

        I'm glad that his performance was great! The reason I don't care much about superhero movies is that the performances aren't to my liking. Logan was great. The Nolan movies were great. Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man was great. Those are only movies that really grabbed me. Although, the Raimi Spider-man movies were just great campy fun.

  A nice gesture. It isn´t though. WW will never be more profitable that DP. Even Avengers 1 shouldn't´t be, as there we no back end deals with the actors and director with DP. That´s why the sequel had so much behind the scenes shenanigans.

Loved Chris Pine and Steve Trevor, but I truly hope they will not bring him back, at least not alive. That would undermine the significance of his sacrifice and undo the emotional impact that his death had on Diana.
And seriously, the cold war? I wonder what they could do with that....
Anyway, nothing is confirmed yet, and WW still hasn't done showing yet. Let's not jump the gun here.

I think it's a great choice because it'll mean the film can differentiate itself from the first. I am surprised though - since there were no "direct wars" between the USSR and USA during the Cold War. Perhaps she will be involved in one of the proxy wars in the middle east?

I don't want this to happen. Now they're being driven into doing needless stuff because they had great reception. This idea only decreases the importance of Diana moving away from mankind. And if she keeps returning to man's world during crisis, there will surely be questions about why didn't she return during MoS?

We´ll see, as i don´t care for the sources, but that´s quite an abstract idea (i was born in 1988 in Russia and lived the fallout). The 80s reboot used the setting of course and guess who the villain was?
We can´t do Ares again, so who is supposed to be used. Phobos? Just put Cheetah in it, even if she won´t be a real villain. The rest will work out.
Steve needs to stay properly dead though, not even an ancestral double role would fly but i wouln´t mind him an a flackback, dream or vision. He is her Pa Kent, Uncle Ben (where was he in Iron-man Homecoming?) and so on but his watch should come back.

    Sure, but the comics stopped caring about her and you won´t see her i the MCU any time soon. Meaning that her and even Ben (not in Homecoming) aren´t as classic characters as i always thought. Kinda weird.

Possible theory, building off the possible Easter egg discussed (I think) in Mr. Sunday Movies' WW Easter egg video.
If the pool Stever Trevor bathed in in WW (the glowy one, right before he talks to Diana about his watch) has magical properties (I.e. fountain of youth) then A) Steve Trevor might not have died in the explosion and B) could still be played by Chris Pine in the 80's some 65-70ish years later.
Other routes include flashbacks or another way of having Steve survive the plane explosion, and then putting Chris Pine through serious aging CGI.
If they do go the fountain of youth route though, this could possibly be the gateway to Lazatus Pits?

    The only time I heard of it working was fans wanting to get a limited collector's edition for Bioshock in 2007.
    They petitioned Irrational Games and 2K Games and they got a Collector's Edition announced.
    That is the only time unless you count Operation Rainfall where fans wanted: Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower to release in North America; Nintendo caved and released them in North America; Though they only released Xenoblade Chronicles; other companies had to publish the other two in North America.
