'Watchmen' HBO series from Damon Lindelof in the works, Zack Snyder no longer involved

Way back in 2015 it was reported that Zack Snyder was in talks with HBO about a Watchmen TV series, with HBO confirming that talks were taking place. Now, nearly two years later, we have an update on that project.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Lost co-creator and writer Damon Lindelof is in talks with HBO on their Watchmen project. Lindelof has expressed in previous interviews that he's a big fan of the Watchmen comics, as well as Zack Snyder's 2009 movie.

THR also says that Zack Snyder is no longer a part of this HBO Watchmen project.

Yes yes yes finally a Superhero TV on a premium channel. The great thing with HBO is that even if the show is not that good it gonna be quality show with great actors , great cinematography and great score. And if the show is good it's gonna be spectacular. Also i'm happy that Lindeldolf is involved Lost for me is one of the best thing to ever hit TV. Those kids supporting the CW are about to see what a good superhero tv show is.😎😎😎

Yes to them and no to the tide shift. WB could/would have always gotten A talent, as the historic film divisions is flooded with money. They just choose to start off a bit differently. Having in house talent work on their properties has it´s own draws (setbacks too). Still, Snyder Geoff and co. could only develop so many films at once till new blood was needed to expand.

  Lord and Miller were attached to The Flash before Batman v Superman was released. They wrote one draft of the script but they never were originally going to direct because they had to work on Sony's Spider-Man cartoon movie which releases the same day as Aquaman.
  They also got the job for Han Solo movie. But now they can direct Flash. They actually originally gave the directing job to Seth Gramme-Smith whom worked with Lord and Miller on the Lego Movie.

I know I am in minority on this but I don't like the idea Damon Lindelof putting his filthy hands on something sacred like Watchmen. I know you all think he is a successful TV writer but don't forget how dissappointing and aimless Lost was. He was also responsible for all shortcomings of Prometheus and JJ Abrams' Star Trek movies. He is just a "lets put a lot of ideas without a clear purpose" guy. that is why I skipped The Leftovers. I didn't want to get burn again. (everybody says season 3 is amazing but that is the point. He has a damaged name now). Now I can't picture a world where he pulls of a good Watchmen show. I know a lot of people will object but that is what I think.

You can't attribute everything wrong about Lost, Prometheus and Star Trek to one man without at least mentioning that he was involved in all the good of it too. Those series and movies you mentioned are not bad, none of them are, they're average (Lost) to really good/great (the first Star Trek and Leftovers).
His name is far from damaged, where did you get that from? I dont get that because HBO wouldn't be talking to him if he was. If anything, his stuff is divisive but none of them are outright bad, he's very much like Zack Snyder in that regard.

I think the problem with Lost was they didn't know where they were going with the story. They were writing as they went and didn't have all the answers. This will be different, the ending and the parts of the story are already there so the approach to storytelling won't be the same. Who knows?
The characters in Lost were some of the best on television and if they can bring that to Watchmen, I'm game.

Hmm. Zack Snyder would want in on this. And he definitely wouldn't have fired his Justice League composer. I think he's being phased out. Gotham City Sirens will be interesting. Will WB let Margot Robbie "force" them to allow David Divisive Ayer, to direct another DCEU movie, or have they already decided to part ways.

I think he's dealing with more important matters than making works of fiction. How can you say he's being phased out? He helped with Wonder Woman if he was being phased out i doubt he would be involved with that.

Very happy with that news! Watchmen is in very competent hands. Hopefully they will dig into 'Before Watchmen' material as well, a lot of good stuff to explore there. I dont see they doing multiple seasons just adapting 'Watchmen'.

That will be great....plus it will open up other DC characters to HBO type of series, which is great. I am wondering if it will be part of the larger DCEU universe, would be cool, but not a deal breaker to me though.

My question is, are they going to use all new actors for the main cast or will they go for the movies actors? It probably depends on what story they're telling, if it's carrying on then how can they not cast the actors from the movie? But if they're doing a whole new retelling then they must go with a new cast.

No doubt, this will be way more grounded than Zack Snyder's movie so there wont be a lot of CGI. You only need to look at the other shows HBO have made and look at the budget there, they're not going to throw Game of Thrones money at this until it's a certified hit.

Brace yourselves for a Netflix-like version of the Watchmen thats more story based with very little emphasis on visuals. We're going to get to the heart of what makes Ozy and Comedian the way they are.

This is the only time I'll actually stick up for Snyder and say he did pretty well with this movie. That said, I'm very curious to see how HBO handles this. If it's as well-made as Ash vs. Evil Dead, SOLD!

I am more interested in seeing a Minutemen adaptation but Zack stepping off is no problem. He had his take on the comic. Let others take over and Lindelof is about as good a produces as you can get.

The idea of a Watchmen TV show fill me with dread and having Lindelof attached makes me want to vomit

I met Dave Gibbons a few weeks ago and asked what he thought about Watchmen being reintroduced into DC. He smiled and said, "No comment. Best just leave it at that"
