There's a big rivalry between DC Comics and Marvel fans online, but no such rivalry exists between the presidents of the two movie studios.

DC Films president Geoff Johns and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige worked their way up through Hollywood together, both working for Superman: The Movie director Richard Donner. If fact, the two shared the stage together at an event honoring Donner last week.

“There’s not really a rivalry. The rivalry is much more amongst the press, I think,” Feige explained in a live Facebook interview with AlloCiné.

“Geoff Johns is a very good friend of mine. We grew up together in the business and recently celebrated Richard Donner, who we both used to work for,” he continued. “So, I applaud all the success he has. I really just look at it as a fan. When the movies perform well and are well received, it’s good for us – which is why I’m always rooting for them.”

Feige also praised the success of Wonder Woman, and mentioned the female lead movies that Marvel is working on. You can check out Feige's comments for yourself in the video below. The Wonder Woman talk is at the 6:50 mark and his comments about DC movies is at 23:27.

    This is why I'm a proud Dc AND Marvel fan. There is no hate between professionally, it is just the fans way of not staying bored. I'm a huge Batman fan, but I love Spiderman as well.

      Exactly. The whole "You like/love this one = You must hate that one" mentality has always bewildered me. I love the stories, the characters, the universes, they are told in & I don't care which company owns them. Each company has some characters I like more that others, each has some I think are pointless. At the end of the day, as a comic book fan, I am just glad that we still have (at least) 30 other comic book films coming out, over the next 4+ years or so.

    I just want the competition between DC and Marvel to inspire each side to better themselves. Sure, some people say Marvel is on the right track, but all that is completely subjective.

    It's always been more of a fanbase rivalry, rather than a business one. In fact on the comic side of things most of the artists that Marvel and DC employ have worked for both companies.

    Other than personal pride to be "tracking" better by critics, audiences, box office, merchandise, etc., it makes complete sense why Feige/Johns would root for each other; success of GOTG2 will boost excitement for WW, and love for WW will boost excitement for Thor: Ragnarok. It's not like buying a car where consumers pick one brand vs. another and don't purchase another car for several years (hence, lost business), most audiences don't even know or care about the difference between Marvel and DC anyway lol

      I haven't been on IMDB in so long. I would just look up the site to answer my own question but I am curious about how and when it happened. So here is my question...

      How and when did IMDb shut down? Are you saying just the forums did? Or the website itself? Also, do you know when this happened?

      Just curious because before Batman-news was around and comicbookmovie I was on IMDb boards talking about Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, etc. it was pretty hostile then before there was a DC vs. Marvel feud (which really started beginning with Iron Man and The Dark Knight back in '08 and has only gotten worse with each film that comes out from both sides).

        IMDB is still around but the forums shut down last year, I believe. The amount of trolling and vitriol on their boards probably made it too much work to monitor and maintain.

    I'm glad that someone isn't interested in Marvel/DC rivalry wars, which are pointless in the long run; It's great to enjoy both DC and Marvel franchises equally. ^_^

    Me and my buddy go back and fourth about who's better, but at the end of the day. I'm just happy to see all these characters from tv and comic books come to life. Never did I imagine when I was collecting and reading comics and watching cartoons I would get to tell my kids what I know about these characters and be some what of an expert. My Dad use to say when you get older they'll have movies for all these characters. And I'm glad to say he was right, I like the argument but all and all I don't care I'm just happy to see everything coming out, even when it sucks and they get it all wrong at least we can still talk about it.

    The reality is that Marvel Studios is no more in rivalry with DC than it is with Universal or Paramount. Fanboys online like to stoke the versus flames. But the reality is the competition between Marvel and DC is a lot less narrower in the film world than it is the comics world.

    Interviewer: "Do you have any regrets?"

    Feige: Not many.

    Come on Feige, just say you regret paying Terrence Howard more than Robert Downey Jr. on the first Iron Man, already.

    This is just hardcore fans, like myself. The average moviegoer does not care at all. However, let's not kid ourselves, as everyone, including Kevin Feige, know there is a rivalry. Rivalries are always good for business, and the superhero genre is no exception.

      Same here. I'm excited for the new Spider-Man game, but the movie....nope. It'll most likely be a box office hit, but it just doesn't "look" right.

            I agree, but it is not an abstract work of art. There are in it elements that can be analyzed objectively. The problem is that most critics and the general public can not carry out this kind of analysis until the end without their feelings (those experienced while they watched the film) drag them to the side of subjectivism. Consensus, in principle, is only an agreement between individuals and their sensibilities, and this only comes close to the truth in an ideal situation.

    He is correct that both publishers 100% rely on each other to do well. Both historically had a bad time being on top at the same time (obviously), so both cranking out a successful film series simultaneously is a new development. The current comic lines tilts into DC´s favor, which is bad for the industry, as Marvel is the bigger publisher. So fix your comics Marvel! But they managed to get the games back on track.

    of course Feige wants DC films to do well. Just as Johns will want for Marvel films do well.
    These people are friendly and respectful with each other and only want
    whats best for the whole genre. And every superhero movie that succeeds
    is good for the genre. Only a complete idiot would wish for a superhero
    film to fail because that would weaken the genre. Nobody wants that.
    Well at least nobody with common sense and half a brain who is not a
    blind, petty fanboy.

    The producers and writers of
    Marvel and DC will always support each other and wish each other well.
    hell many of their writers worked for both companies.

    Its only the dumbass fanboys who are so eager to shit on either of these universes and wish for one of them to go down.

    Besides Feige has zero reasons to wish DC failure. Nothing can even scratch the fact that the MCU is the most successful movie franchise of all time, which has grossed over 11 billion so far. Feige has absolutely no reason to be as petty and malicious as the fanboys because he and Marvel/Disney sit squarely on the throne anyway. And he obviously wants the whole genre to succeed. I wish more so called fans would follow his example.

    I dont even understand how some people can hate on Feige. He has always seemed like an earnest, classy and respectful guy who never said a single bad word about DC and obviously really cares about getting the Marvel property right and do right by Marvel fans. people just hate on him because he is successful and made Marvel the success that everything is measured to in the genre now.

    Almost like their actual mature adults instend of man children what lurk the internet. I myself love both Marvel and DC, DC is my prefered comic because i actually like DC more but that doesn't stop me loving Marvel and their older comics, both Logan and Wonder Woman are my favorite films so far this year and i can't wait for Spider-Man and Justice League.

    The success of any CBM helps the genre as a whole. Most people in the audience are barely aware of whether it's a Marvel or DC property, they just want a good movie.

          These are people who worked together before. Obviously, they are competing for the market, but if one is succeeding it will make the other work harder to catch up, and vice-versa. It just works out better for Marvel/DC/FoxMarvel to have competition, so the audience doesn't get sick of the exact same thing over and over. Problem is that all of this will only contribute to super hero fatigue, which some movies are already suffering from, so...
