Wonder Woman was finally released this weekend and its already seen tremendous success. Fans love it, critics love it, and it's on track to make around $100 million in its first weekend at the box office.
Zack Snyder, who cast Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and produced and co-wrote the story, took to Vero last night to share a beautiful new look at Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. He also summed up his thoughts about Wonder Woman with just one word. "Proud," he wrote.

A nice win for Zack Snyder. Rightfully so, his name is all over the credits, at the end of the movie. His vision for Wonder Woman, was successfully realized. The impact of critics is overrated...if the audience likes it, they'll see the movie.
True. WoM is more of a factor i think. And I imagine this movie will have great WoM.
But people don't like to think for themselves.
or people would like to have a general idea on how the movie is before spending money. Movie tickets are expensive where I live then that doesn't even include the outrageous prices for snacks and drinks. So if a movie is being trashed by critics and word of mouth is bad then I'm most likely not going to even bother with it.
It's not a rule that you should eat and drink while watching a movie. They're a distraction at best.
This might sound even crazy but do you think perhaps the movie you're watching has nothing to do with what you consume or how much you spend on it? If you have a problem with the food then maybe it's the cinema you should worry about, not the movie. Food for thought!
I prefer snacks while watching something, even at home I always have something with me. My biggest issue is the ticket prices.

I still think they could've got a better actress. Not saying that Gadot didn't do ok; she seemed to have put enough effort to hold her own, but I never was "wowed" as many people said when she debuted in BvS...

Honestly feel like this is how a DC movie is done, I absolutely loved the movie and even got emotional in some parts seeing this Successful female lead superhero movie, Gal was AMAZING in this movie.
Yeah agreed, I hope they keep this message of inspiration and hope throughout most of their superhero movies, but within their own unique character individuality. This is what DC super heroes have always been about.

Nah. He's underdeveloped, in my opinion. The concept behind his plan is good, but I don't like the characterization that they had went with him. In terms of character, he's better than Enchantress.
He was a cheesy Zod to me and without the setup that Zod had. Imagine the Battle of Metropolis but with constant talking from the villain.
Every single word that Zod uttered had some gravity to it. I didn't feel that with Ares.
Isn't Ares like this? I don't know much of him but he was a talker in the Injustice game. Don't know if using that game is a good reference but...
I've had my second-viewing and it didn't feel as cheesy this time (I probably shouldn't have seen the first time with a headache but I couldn't cancel!)
I don't know much about Ares outside of the new Year One run from Rebirth and he was quite chatty there as well!
You'll likely enjoy him in your first-viewing! He's no marvel villain though!
I guess my initial disappointment is more about how he felt like a rehashed Zod from MoS.
As a hardcore DCEU fan, I am so happy to see it in its rightful place.
You can see a lot of inspiration from Snyder's visual style in Wonder Woman's film.

I'm not sure if it was for WW or JL but I remember reading that they claim it's a "fixable mess". It probably wasn't the case but I wouldn't just take Patty's word either though, she isn't going to diss her own movie.
There was a script leak of WW two months ago. I couldn't help myself and read it. It described the movie very accurately, but there was one interesting difference -- the guy claimed that the final battle was with Ares in a humongous form, and looking exactly like that stupid toy they showed a few months ago. I'm suspecting, that originally, he really was big and stupid looking, and then Jenkins decided to settle on the normal, comic book-faithful version.
I'm not a specialist by any stretch, but I don't see what here could have been called a fixable mess. My best guess is that the source of that rumor himself was not very familiar with the movie, and just went by what impression he got from talking to people who directly worked on the movie.
Bottom line, there's still hope that JL will be ok. Miracles do happen every now and then.
Yeah, I don't care much about spoilers so I read it myself as well. I don't really care though, it ended up being good and exceeded expectations so that is all what matters.
I only care about spoilers when they are essential to the plot, like a major twist in a mystery movie, or who is the murderer in a detective movie.

No it's not. If he would actually TRY to learn from his mistakes (excessive use of slow-mo, desaturated colors, draining characters, bad villains), he'd get some credit. But he's gotten worse as the years have gone by a la Michael Bay. Thing is I don't see people sticking up for Bay like they do Snyder.

For further evidence lets compare Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman. He had very little involvement in suicide squad compared to wonder woman, I think he was only an executive producer. You can tell that was just Ayer, snyder gets involved in Wonder Woman, what do we get? Oh right action similar to his with use of slow mo.

The intro, tiny bits of slow-mo in the montage, tiny bit in the court bombing, and in the Batmoble car chase. Other than that, there wasn't much slow-mo in the film, dude. You're just exaggerating things just for the sake of it.
None of those were action scenes. Zack hasn't used 300-ish slo-mo for action in a DC Film yet.

The whole depressing montage where superman is depressingly saving people is nothing but unnecessary slow-mo. Also, when Superman causes Batman to crash the batmobile. Completely out of place and unnecessary.
Truth is, he uses it, and in places where it really doesn't belong. You can't debate that superman walking towards the crashed Batmobile warrants a slow-motion shot, can you? It's done simply because Snyder thinks it looks cool, but it really doesn't lend itself to the scene properly. Therefore, it's nothing but annoying filler.
And out of 2 and a half hour movie, those 2 scenes you stated are "barely any slo mo".

Maybe have a montage of Superman saving people with actual inspiring and hopeful music instead of a fucking news station debate about Superman's existence being necessary or not. You can have that without beating people over the head with it, while also transmiting a message of hope, which, you know, was the whole fucking point that Man of Steel tried to get across, as well as Superman himself?
Just because a scene is done a certain way to transmit a certain message, it doesn't mean it's the only way to do it, and that there is no other possible execution to it.

This movie revolved around Superman. it was about what it would be like if Superman existed in the real world (at least the initial reactions). There's NOTHING wrong with the way Zack made that montage because putting hopeful, inspiring music in the background wouldn't match the discussions about Superman in the background.

Same message? Nope. Man of Steel dealt with Clark's problems growing up with his powers as well as hiding his identity.
Batman v Superman dealt with the reactions of the world that were teased in Man of Steel.

It's the meaning of what you're saying. You're saying this superman will eventually become that Superman, but until then we've gone through two whole movies of almost nonexistent development. That's not making a different Superman from the beginnning. That's having an idea, and running it into the ground, so now you'll have the classic Superman because that's the one that will have people cheering and openly receiving. You cannot argue that this Superman is well executed because almost no one likes him. Apart from the raging fanboys, who in the fuck is clamoring for more emoting Superman? Who the hell wants another whole movie of Henry Cavill emoting to stuff happening? I loved Man of Steel, mostly because I'm a grade A Superman fanboy, but it was time to move on. Also, the whole point of these two movies was to introduce Superman in a contemporary world with a more "realistic" sense. Both movies tackled these themes, only with the exact same tone, with the exact same point of view. Nothing evolved during both those movies, especially the character, and that's the point.
And yes, you are admitting this version is extremely poor by saying that the "hopeful and inspiring" version will come afterwards. A version of Superman that isn't hopeful or inspiring isn't god damn Superman. This is how you're literally admitting to all of this, only indirectly. I seriously hope you understand that your words have more meaning than just the literal sense of what you write. And, no. Most fans here love Superman. I personally know people who loved this Superman and would prefer Man of Steel over those cheesy Reeves films ANY DAY, and Man of Steel made a lot of people like Superman: a character who was only "the boring boyscout" until then.This is where your arguments fails. Had there been another Wolverine before hugh Jackman, people would have hated this one for many reasons arising from comparisons to that previous actor's portrayal. If we look at Tony Stark and Thor from their first films, they've completely changed as characters now. They're both much more mature now and are more like the heroes that they're known for in the comics.
Sure, Superman had been saving people since he was a kid, but he was put in situations to show the audience what it would be like if he really existed. Those themes were tackled in MoS and BvS. So Superman does care a lot about humans, which is why he gave his own life for them, and he's a good person by heart. Just because we haven't seen him in situations were he could be more inspiring doesn't change these facts. We'll get to that point at some time. You're only complaining because you're a bitchy, negative nancy.

A majority of the montage was not in slow-mo. It llooks like slow-mo at first, but if you look at certain things carefully, you can see that everything is moving at normal speed. Even the bit where's dragging the ship is at normal speed. He's not that strong to simply pick it up. The only bits where you can say that there is some slow-mo is when he rises from under the Hispanic people who were surrounding him and when that lady on the roof sees his silhouette.
And you're just nitpicking about the Batmoblie thing. Was the slow-mo necessary? Nope. Did it hurt the film? Nope.
Kinda did. Take that slow-mo out, take the preceding useless chase scene out, and you can add actual important stuff to the theatrical cut (maybe like establishing shots, something that is in fact necessary and the most basic thing regarding setting up a scene and was almost entirely absent from it). It's not a deal breaker, it's more of a stylistic choice, but it serves nothing to the film, and just makes it look like the director desperately wants the film to look cool. Not nearly as terrible as in 300, but useless nonetheless.

Bay isn't directing characters that have millions of fans prior to the films being made. Either way, given each director's style and critical reception they tend to have, they do seem to be on the same side of things. Except Snyder isn't keen on having racist jokes and just incredibly shitty humour on his films and on being an absolute asshole to his cast and crew, as well as Bay not needing a universe of comic book characters to literally bring his career back from the dead, after 3 straight bombs at the box office (his first box office bomb was The Island, but that's about it).

Up until then, he was making movies (not based on properties already set up in pop culture) that were making a shit ton of money (Snyder can only say this about 300, no other film he ever did before the DC ones made any kind of substantial quantity).

Pretty much liked all the dceu casting thus far, including the controversial ones, her, eisenberg, Affleck, mamoa, will smith, and I think she and Mamoa will win people over even better than smith did (seems like more people changed their mind about him than about Affleck and eisenberg).
I never really read too much on Mamoa, as from what I did it was overwhelmingly positive having him portray Aquaman. Since BvS, Gadot and Affleck have shut the critics, Gadot even more so now.

the Man of Steel isn't a "superhero" because he rescues cats from trees or because he saves humans from situations that might lead to injury or death, he's a "superhero" because of his Kryptonian heritage and because when there are kids about to be drowned in a school bus he acts, when oil rig is on fire and the men are stranded and left for dead he acts, when a woman's personal space is being violated he acts, when he chooses to side with humanity over his own people because he knew what Zod (and other Kryptonians) was about he acted on he side of humanity, when lois was in danger he chose to act, when his mother was being threatened by a genocidal madman he chose to act, when the world was being threatened by his fellow Kryptonians he chose to act. Now there are those of us who say he murdered Zod when he chose to preserve life in the face of a man who was hellbent on destroying it, that makes him a hero. Choosing to preserve life when fighting someone who wants to kill everyone does make you a hero, to all those who say he didn't save anyone during his battle with Zod. Actions will always speak louder then words. Ty Zack, goyer and nolan bros( not a fan of chris at all) for what you started us off with. Being fortunate to have "superhuman" abilities and by choosing to be a "man doing the right thing" makes him a " superhero".

Over 100 million projected first weekend, i speculated about this some weeks ago and was labelled unrealistic for having faith in WW beating Alien and Pirates in close run (both being fatigued sequels for me), and wining the season.
Well, Alien was a bit disappointing, made some numbers, but not even close to being a massive success or a problem for WW.
Pirates of the Caribbean.., had a 68% drop in second weekend into 3rd place.
Now hoping to see WW reaching the numbers no one over at WB dares to talk about, dont know about the billion, but this movie now has potential to fight the first place of the season, its going to be interesting.
The thing is the north american box office isn't nearly the most important market as it was 20 years ago. Now international box office is extremely important (for example, Pirates did have a bigger worldwide first weekend than Wonder Woman did), and all of this matters because it contributes to the blockbuster saturation. Meaning, the more blockbusters you have crammed into a small space, the more likely it is for a movie to make less than it potentially could. Time will tell about Wonder Woman's legs, but June will be a bitch and even though it's a very well received film, it probably won't enjoy the legs of even an universally panned movie like Suicide Squad because of it (sure hope it beats it. Good films need to be rewarded for it).
Also, the issue wasn't Wonder Woman winning against movies like Alien or Pirates. It's all about the worldwide box office, and winning the season is kind of unrealistic given the popularity of Transformers in China alone, and because it is kind of unlikely it will reach Guardians numbers (the movie that kickstarted the summer season, therefore it is in on the run).
Spin it any way you want it, 230 million opening worldwide, that is a great start, and more than everybody (including you) predicted.
Also a month ago, Pirates was in your words a star-filled-monster-blockbuster ready to make a billion because the last one did, and used that speculation to claim that WW will suffer because Pirates will be strong the second week stealing audience, well, you we're wrong about that.
Pirates in two weekends domestically, earned $114.6 million, WW did almost the same in only ONE weekend, Pirates current worldwide sum, $501.2 million, WW can easily top that.
Transformers can be a hit in China, but remember SS made tons without China, this one will hit the entire world with the exception of Lebanon.

I said: "You're also not taking into account that a lot of characters are returning to this Pirates movie, and that the last one, only with Johnny Depp, made over a billion worldwide, and there's also Transformers 5 and Cars 3." Meaning that it was a threat, since the last one, even being so bad and having almost no returning characters was able to still break a billion at the box office.
