Robert Zemeckis, Matthew Vaughn, Sam Raimi are top picks for 'The Flash' directing job

Variety is reporting that Robert Zemeckis and Matthew Vaughn are currently Warner Bros.' top choices to direct The Flash.

Update: The Hollywood Reporter added a third name. They say that Spider-Man Trilogy director Sam Raimi is also a strong contender!

Two of these director's names have come up recently as well. Matthew Vaughn was rumored to be the top choice for Man of Steel 2, while we heard that Robert Zemeckis met with Warner Bros. about The Flash. Now it appears that they're both fighting for the same job.

No word on when Warner Bros. hopes to get The Flash rolling, but star Ezra Miller will be tied up this summer shooting Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2. Variety says that Joby Harold was brought on to do a page-one rewrite on the script, and has since turned in a draft.

      And Superman. The way Sam Jackson portrayed the villain in Kingsman 2, this cocky a-hole with dreams of world domination and all of the super-science-y bits shows that Vaughn could pull off a colorful, light, modern Superman story that all audiences would dig.
      But Vaughn in anything DCEU would be great.

I'd go for Zemeckis. He is a master of special effects and has a lot of experience in that field and The Flash needs A LOT of visual effects. And WB, please give Man of Steel 2 to Matthew Vaughn!!!

All of this is continued great news for the DCEU but I just want MOS 2 to not be put on hold. Maybe Lord Snyder will be up for MOS 2? That would be fantastic!

        Yeah he has...MOS and BvS UE are in my top 5 CBMs and I'm optimistic that JL is going to be a fitting conclusion in his Superman trilogy.

Sam Raimi is a no-brainer. He made Spider-Man, the best Marvel movies of them all, and the Flash can have the exact same tone.

    I'm with ya. I know Spiderman 3 was a letdown and had several issues (like Venom totally wasted, or that Peter Parker dance...) but I liked everything related to Sandman a lot, and I won't forget how cool was to see in live action the transformation of Eddie Brock into Venom just like it happened in the animated series!

      Sandman was done really well, it's a shame that Sony forced Raimi to do Venom...
      It would have been a great trilogy if they just left him alone.

  Charlie Hunnam is interested in playing Green Arrow. He be a good choice in my opinion but people are giving him a lot of crap because of King Arthur which is not his fault.

Was just gonna say that i know people have been wondering what's going on with The Flash movie. Glad we got some news even though it doesn't confirm who will direct and a release date. I will patiently wait as long as they get it right i'll be happy.

If I were DC/WB, I would do my best to hire those 3 for the DCEU:
- Robert Zemeckis as director of The Flash.
- Matthew Vaughn as director of MoS2.
- Sam Raimi as director of Shazam.
... It would be amazing!

WAY better (alleged) contenders, than the last two prematurely hired Flash directors, who were inexperienced with big-budget/special effects, for a live-action movie. I don't care on what movie. I want all three in the DCEU. And major props to Sam Raimi for giving Spider-Man organic webshooters, and making the character an actual Spider-Man, that isn't completely reliant on BS tech.

  Spider-Man doesn't have organic web shooters in the comics. He came up with the tech for that because he's a science whiz kid. So they got that completely wrong in the Raimi movies. It'd be nice if you actually knew what you were talking about, but hey don't let things like the actual history of the character stop you from running your mouth good sir.

Sam Raimi? YES. His creative use of the camera would work wonders for The Flash. Is horror/comedy sensibilities could also bring something interesting.

Depends on how he'd approach it in this context. I thing you can still make a fun, exciting Superman post JL. Look at what he did for X-Men First Class, it had its dark material, and it was still energetic and fun. I think with a great script, he'd crush it.

Yessssss and yep. When I heard Famuyiwa was out of The Flash and Tim Miller was out of Deadpool, I really wanted Miller directing The Flash!! Come on, he would be perfect, these 3 directors are good too, but I think that Raimi would be better for Shazam, but still any of them is good!!

If they were I feel that we should already know which director it is.

They seem pretty interested in creating original content so it's extremely unlikely but I still want the Wachowskis to do this.
