'Planet of the Apes' producer likely to make 'The Batman' with Matt Reeves

Matt Reeves is putting his name all over The Batman. Reports say that he's starting the project with a brand new script, and now he'll reportedly be bringing in his Planet of the Apes producing partner to help out with the movie.

Deadline is reporting that producer Dylan Clark could be coming over to Warner Bros. to make The Batman with Matt Reeves. Nothing is official as of right now, but there are talks going on between the two parties. Clark and Reeves have worked closely together on the Planet of the Apes franchise at Fox.

Reeves is also a producer on The Batman, along with Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns. There is no release date, and it's not expected to start shooting until sometime in 2018.

I don't expect a trilogy from Affleck to be honest. A 2019 release is basically guaranteed which will make him 47 so you'll possibly be going into his 50's with the sequels. Not many actors stay committed fitness wise especially at such age. Then there is also the fact that he is a director/screenwriter so he would most likely want to explore more personal projects as well.

  My sentiments exactly. Ben sticking around for a trilogy isn't beyond the realm of possibility. Liam Neeson did an action trilogy from his mid 50's to early 60's. If The Batman is a success the studio could also shave a few years off by shooting any possible sequels back to back. I would prefer if Ben's Bats got at least a 3 individual films

    Robert Downey is 51, and I'm sure he'll keep playing Tony Stark (despite what he may say) as long as they keep bringing him truck loads of money.

    That's what I'm hoping for too! Grayson takes over as Batman, Alfred passes on (I think this would be good for adding emotional weight to the Batmen), and Bruce fills Alfred's shoes. I just would really like to have Affleck floating around the later movies as Bruce Wayne still. He's been tremendous, in my opinion.

      I got the idea from a real good fanfic called Stains of Time. In it, it's basically a "what if" story about Lex arriving late to stop Darkseid in JLA. Because of this, Batman sacrifices himself to save Superman and gets hit by the Omega Beams.

      I don't think so. Unless the DCEU is only meant to have a very short run. Batman is WB's cash cow, they aren't going to kill off arguably their most recognizable and popular character so early into their universe, Batman is the centerpiece. And die-hard comic fans might be interested to see Dick Grayson step in as Batman....maybe, but the average movie goer (who makes up the other 900 million dollars they're hoping to make from these movies)won't be.

      He won't truly be dead. Darkseid can bring someone back to life if he had previously used his Omega beams on them. And then there's the time where Bruce traveled through time after being hit by the beams.

      What would be the point then? I thought the whole idea of killing him was to get an aging Affleck out, if you resurrect him then you're back to square one. Plus a Batman resurrection so close to a Superman resurrection would be awfully repetitive. I think they'll play around with the timeline, like The Batman may take place earlier into Batmans career. Then they'll just use movie magic to make Affleck look younger. Or they could go the whole Han Solo route and cast another actor to play the younger Batman.

      If Affleck doesn't want to come back then, Batman won't show up anymore. If in the future, he decides to do another film or two, then they can give Bruce one last ride like Fox did with Logan.

      Not to keep on about this cause it's really not a big deal, but why would they resurrect Batman for a last ride? It'd be sort of like Glenn on the walking dead (spoiler alert) you kill him, bring him back only to kill him again. And if he's not coming back I'm back to my original opinion, I don't think they'd off Batman so early into their universe. If they're going to kill Batman it would probably have to be in the conclusion of this version of the DCEU. I assume that they used the MCU as a guide so I would think that they'd want to get at least ten years out of Affleck as Batman, and if his age scared them I don't think they would have cast him in the first place. I saw the other comment that said that his original contract was only for Batman v Superman and the two JL movies, but I can't imagine if their intent was to set up a DC universe to rival the juggernaut that is Disney/Marvel that that plan wouldn't have included a series of stand alone Batman movies from the beginning, I mean why the heck wouldn't they?

      Sounds kind of like a spin on Batman Beyond. Dick instead of Terry, less deep into the future. Maybe less tragic... but warmer for it, in a good way.
      Could definitely be interesting, but I have trouble letting go of Bruce as Batman. haha

      Oh man, me too! I recently read Grant Morrison's "Batman & Robin" short series. And even though it was great, Batman was cracking way too many fun jokes for my taste. I've always loved Bruce's arid delivery. :-)

  the future, I'd like them to just recast him, or any other character, for that matter, without waiting for a continuity-altering event or something. Couldn't care less about anybody else taking on the mantle.

  His original contract was just for BvS and the two JL films, a standalone was never included which they had to negotiate. So I doubt that he had any intention to play the Batman for that long.

      Ben isn't Tom Cruise,or Keanu Reeves,who have been playing in action movies for the past 20 years or more to continue being in shape for more than a few years.He's not that used to it and the fact that he divorced,has been struggling with alcohol for a long time and the last couple of movies he's been in,including his own,were critical and financial flops aren't helping his morale.
      If WW and JL don't perform either,then he'll definitely reconsider his role as Batman.

      If you scroll down a few comments I basically said the exact same thing as you as far as him reconsidering his role and walking away if the JL is a critical misfire. As far as staying in shape, I think you guys are blowing that way out of proportion as long as he doesn't blow up to 400lbs or something he'll be straight. I don't think Michael Keaton was a physical specimen or anything. As long as he fits in the suit, and the suit makes him look strong, it's all good, I mean they have pregnant women kicking ass on TV shows all of the time and you can't tell they're pregnant because of stunt doubles, creative angles, special effects and so on. So if they can hide a 8 month pregnant belly I'm sure they can hide Bens beer gut. Just don't have shirtless Rocky four style workout montages ala B v S and everything will be cool.

      Let's not compare the requirements from the late 80's and early 90's with the ones from today when it comes to physique,because if Ben would have been in Keaton's shape for BvS,no one would have taken him seriously.
      The thing is that he'll have to stay fit most of the time and he already complained that it was really hard to get in the shape required for BvS,so you can bet they'll show him shirtless after having him train for 6-8 months.
      It's been a common trend in superhero movies for the past 6-7 years.
      And as far as alcoholism goes,he's been puffy for the past year and that's a side effect of big intakes of alcohol.
      We'll probably get a better idea of how things stand at the end of the year,when these two DCEU movies already came out and there are more news online about Reeves's Batman.

      I still think as long as he stays reasonably fit, good enough to look good in a business suit for Wayne, the batsuit and stunt double/body double can do the rest. I mean do you watch Game of Thrones? The scene were Cersei walks through the streets of Kingslanding naked while being "shamed" that wasn't even her naked body, it was digitally imposed, and while it has a large budget for a TV show it's nowhere close to the budget of one of these "tentpole" movies. We'll see I guess but I really don't think you need a shirtless Ben Affleck in every one of these movies...he's not Ryan Reynolds.

The best chance of having a JL2 with Ben is for JL to be both a critical and financial success. The divisiveness must end with JL plain and simple!

  The only to "end" divisiveness is to aim for the lowest common denominator that no one will find objectionable... and at this point that's likely to aggravate those of us who liked that Snyder dared to do something different.

  ultra-sensative about being in poorly received films now, dude doesn't want to be pickin up razzie's while his little bro is winning Oscars. Anyway after the whole sad Affleck thing, Batman v Superman's mixed response (I think it's a masterpiece) and then Live by Night's poor reception, combined with his clear annoyance regarding being hounded about The Batman if Justice League is shredded by critics and is divisive amongst fans I think he may try his absolute hardest to get out from under it and walk away. For the record I really hope not, I freakin love Affleck's Batman, I love the movies, and I want more of them...lots more, he can play Batman when he's 75 for all I care.

That's good news. Planet of the apes looks fantatstic. It's a good thing new people get involved. I don't like that snyder has so much power over this franchise some of his choices are just cringeworthy and embarrassing. But WB has no choice but to trust him because he is all that they have so far. But when new people come on board and succed it could improve a lot.

I've been fully on-board with Snyder's choices for this DC universe, but I do think that three movies is enough...for now. I agree that it would improve the overall quality of the whole with fresh perspectives. I really wouldn't mind Snyder coming back for Justice League 2, but I'd like to see someone new for Man of Steel 2. I'm not too terribly fond of Ayers coming back for Sirens (my ideal pick is Kathryn Bigelow for that one), but they seem to trust him enough to bring him back.
So far, we have Snyder, Jenkins, Wan, Ayer, and Reeves. That's already evening things out between Snyder and non-Snyder. And then we'll be getting The Flash, Nightwing, Green Lantern(s), Cyborg(?), Superman, and hopefully another Wonder Woman - all of which I'll bet will be non-Snyder.

  yeah it's simple why they bring ayer back. Because he kept silent about the stuff behind the scenes and how WB demanded reshoots, more fun and changed the whole plot in post production. He was a good boy. He even wrote an open letter and said he was sorry for the bad movie but it was all his fault and not WB. So he gets to stay.
  I guess they made some kind of deal that if he keeps silent he gets more money, he is allowed to choose a project and will get more creative control. He couldn't turn down that offer. I'm looking forward to his next DC movie because he is an honorable guy and won't repeat his 'mistakes'

  You left out Black Adam and Shazam; I'm guessing that the Rock's braintrust will get to choose the director on those.
  I can't imagine Kathryn Bigelow choosing to direct a superhero movie, although I was hoping for her for WW before Jenkins was announced.
  I don't know if Snyder will want to direct JL2, particularly since the story he was going to tell will be completed in the current JL movie. He'll have his trilogy (MoS, BvS, JL), and I hope he and Debbie stay on in a guiding / producing role after that.

I have mixed felings about this news. On the one hand is good to see the director having creative freedom. On the other I think is a pity that we aren't going to see what Affleck Johns cooked for us : /

Whatever they decide to do, there has to be at least a glimpse or a smaller part with Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke. They can just tease him for Nightwing solo or Suicide Squad 2 if they're not gonna keep him as the villain. Joe looks like Slade and is in perfect shape, ditching him imo would be a really bad choice and a cop out.

im dreading the day they come out and officially announce that Deathstroke will no longer be in the movie...*sigh*. Maybe it wont happen(god I hope not), but man...im so scared. Maybe they will announce that they are doing an R rated Deathstroke solo movie instead and it will lessen the blow.

Just make him the villain of the Nightwing movie. He has way more history with Dick than he has with Bruce anyway, I think it would be even better.

  my perception of Deathstroke is a bit different than the people who largely associate him with the titans. Personally I find Deathstroke to be a perfect villain for Batman and would rather see him in this movie than anywhere else.
