The Rock congratulates Yahya Abdul-Mateen II on his big 'Aquaman' role

Earlier this week we learned that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was offered the role of Black Manta in Aquaman, and his friend Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson just welcomed him to the DC Films Universe!

"Congrats brotha. Couldn't happen to a better dude. Welcome to the club," Johnson wrote on Twitter this morning. Johnson, who will play Black Adam for DC Films, worked with Abdul-Mateen on his upcoming Baywatch movie. Who knows. Maybe they could be working together in a DC Comics movie next.

Abdul-Mateen is a new, up-and-coming actor, so I'd be very surprised if he doesn't take the big Aquaman role. And based on The Rock's tweet, he may have already accepted.

Aquaman starts shooting this spring, and will be released in October 2018.

Awesome! Being that The Rock is definitely on the inside I'm sure he has confirmation of casting and also any others either signed on or getting ready to be officially cast. This basically confirms our Black Manta! Woo!

I can usually be pretty patient with this stuff, but I'm with you. The only news we've been getting have been directors dropping out, scripts being re written, and now this Black Manta casting. They really need to shift the focus onto something big. My feed has been flooded with negativity for the better part of the last 3 months or so.

    Hey alright! I'm glad it's coming! :-) I'm waiting for a Rebirth Omnibus to arrive. It's a collection of all the introductory Rebirth issues. I did by a few single issues when they came out, but I'm leaving them in the sleeves.
    Yeah, the commenting landscape is a weird one right now. I used to regularly visit a popular sci-fi blog but had to back away because it ended up becoming just complaining and complaining and one-upping and complaining. I just thought, "man, nobody wants to say they actually enjoyed something?! That's crazy. I'm out!" Plus, the commenting system there doesn't allow for open discussions. Approval must be met before you can be included - a little too exclusive for my tastes. I like it here because if there is any kind of abusive disagreement...BLOCK! And it still allows others to carry-on with the dialogue.

How is that interesting? The explanation to this mainly consists of one word: paycheck. I thought that was kinda obvious to people. And the second biggest factor probably is that they love the characters they'll be working with, but the one that literally plays the smallest role is how the DCEU is in terms of quality. That would be one of the biggest factors for directors thinking about joining though, and as far as I know, we are having serious problems finding directors... Now this is interesting, not in a good way though, unfortunately.

  I get what you are saying but a lot of GREAT movies have changes in the director's chair. The difference is that this is the DCEU and everyone seems to like to call any changes in the original plan as a warning that everything is doomed and the world is ending.
