'Green Lantern' actor Temuera Morrison in talks to join 'Aquaman'

It's been a big week for Aquaman casting news! We have our Black Manta, Nicole Kidman is in talks to play Aquaman's mom, and now The Hollywood Reporter says that Temuera Morrison is in talks to join the movie.

According to THR, the role that Morrison is up for is Aquaman’s human father. Morrison is no stranger to DC Comics movies. He played Abin Sur in the 2011 Green Lantern movie.

Aquaman is expected to begin shooting in Australia in April. It'll be released on October 5, 2018.

Yeah figured later on after I Googled "james wan quit aquaman" and saw nothing, thought you'd be talking about The Flash. Well, if they don't find a director in time, they'll just push the dates, no issues there. I don't understand why everybody's so stiff. Like "OMG NO DIRECTOR FOR THE FLASH AND IT'S DUE TO NEXT YEAR, IT'S DONE. DC IS DOOMED. WE ALL GONNA DIE."

Aquaman has a director James Wan; they are announcing the cast for the movie because it starts shooting soon. That is why they are announcing more actors. If it was for another movie like Flash I can see the complaint because Flash still doesn't have a director announced yet.

  When these scores are all given by the audience, then yes, they definitely have to do with the enjoyment audiences took from these movies... Revenue means jackshit to quality, unless you mean movies like Shawshank Redemption or Fight Club are utter shit...
  I also love that argument because, by that logic, Watchmen is a huge piece of shit film (bombed pretty hard at the box office, but it actually has a pretty nice score over at IMDB).

Yes, because we all have collective amnesia and we've forgot that WW comes out in a few months, but hey, friend of a friend who worked as a cleaner on the set said that WW was a mess, so...
Also, a "little indie" movie called Justice League is coming out later thi... but wait, there's just 6 of them, 5 on promotional material, so yeah, it IS kinda JL, but it ISN'T. So that's a fail.
BvS was divisive, so that says at least 50% liked it, and MoS liked more than 65%. Fuck them.

For the 3 first instalment of a comicverse, I think it's a win.

Kind of like he does but he just doesn't agree to people having their own thoughts, it pisses him off. BvS was a perfect launch for the DCEU, I know MoS was the first movie in DCEU but it was a solo movie.
MoS was great, BvS was epic, so JL can only be better.
All 3 DC movies Zack made, were amazing. Can't wait for his 4th one to blow my mind again!

Let me get this straight:

A guy cast as Green Lantern but killed off in Suicide Squad wants to be cast as Green Lantern again. And another guy cast as another Green Lantern and killed off in Green Lantern wants to be cast in Aquaman.

This is right up there with the guy cast as Bane getting killed off in The Dark Knight Rises being cast as Rick Flag in Suicide Squad and dropping out but having some cryptic meeting with WB about another DC role.

      Keaton Batman was before Batman's no kill rule was firmly established, and Bale's Batman never really killed directly, and if he did, he actually saved people's lives. Batfleck killed relentlessly to no gain or greater purpose and seemed to go out of his way to go on a murdering rampage. If you can't tell the difference, then I can't help you.

I can tell the difference, but form my understanding of the current Batman, killing is always wrong, even if lives are on the line.To Batman, there are no exceptions.
      And even though the no-kill wasn't firmly established at the time, DC was still pushing to have Batman be less violent than he used to be. Now I can't find the exact year when the rule was established, but the changes started to occur in the 40s.

Whether or not Batman would ever kill is irrelevant, the point is that there is a VERY obvious reason as to why people are willing to let it slide with Bale (assuming he ever killed, and he really didn't) whilst taking issue with Batfleck's psychotic behavior.
      As for his rule, that only started in the late 80s. Batman was back to killing in the 70s I believe. It's only in the 90s when his rule really started to get "mainstream".

Could he have been less violent during that chase scene? Yes, but it was to show us, the audience, just how far down the hole Batman has fallen into. If that's the case then you might as well say that Iron Man and Spider-Man's heroic acts were only done for personal gain so that they can amends for their past mistakes.
      I'm just pointing my understanding of Batman. And from I understand, Batman wouldn't knowingly leave a man to die even I'd it wold save lives. Even if getting the Kryptonite to kill Superman is "for the greater good" (which is already anti-Batman), that doesn't justify killing regular goons (who are just doing their jobs) in the process. And by admitting "he has fallen", you acknowledge this is not the Batman any of us grow up with. There is no explanation given as to why he's even willing to kill.
      With him saving Martha, he still threw a DEFENSELESS and unconscious goon into a live grenade. Sorry, but that is straight up murder. I can somewhat let KGBeast slide, as it was either him or Martha, but he didn't need to obliterate those trucks outside. That was extremely unnecessary. Again, it served NO purpose. He didn't save anyone by shooting them to shreds. Martha would have been just fine if he had taken them out differently.

Yes, the film doesn't explain exactly what changed Batman, but for me personally, it gave me enough reasons for why he's the way he is. Same with Superman, the film gives you reasons for why he doesn't like the way Batman is treating criminals. And you really can't see the difference between Batman's killings and the destruction that Superman can do if he so much as suffers from heartbreak?

      I'd call it rage. I feel like it's fair to assume you've already had that plot point explained exhaustively to you (as if the movie hadn't already), so I'll spare the essay.
      That said, he went out of his way not to kill anyone hand-to-hand. The only casualties were a few guys with heavy machine guns in vehicular combat - a far less practical no-kill situation.
      The large majority of thugs in the film were taken down with non-lethal intentions.

      You know, I really thought he'd learn his lesson after the hords of fanboys complained about Superman killing Zod (which I didn't have that much trouble with, because it's actually understandable)... But no, he made Batman - a guy who's known for not ever killing anybody, even more so than Superman - into a Punisher knock-off. I don't understand how anyone can defend this, other than blind fanboyism. I know everything's subjective and all... but usually, even when I disagree completely, I can still understand where people are coming from, but with Batman in BvS, I really don't. It's a freaking mystery to me as to how people can actually defend this.

      Different people perceive Batman differently, and some are simply willing to indulge in new interpretations - or, more appropriately worded, are willing to excuse one or two character aspects that don't suit their own preferences to appreciate other aspects that are well composed.
      It's a flexible character, and if a story is told well enough and the heart is still there, the no kill rule really isn't a must for Batman to be Batman. History has shown us that. So, I'm as open to Batfleck as I was to Keaton, or to the late 30s version when I went back and read that.
      The prevelence of the no kill rule is a more modern mainstream concoction that certainly has great purpose in storytelling, and it's fair to prefer it (I do as well), but it's not all Batman has ever been or must ever be.
      There is no singular feature about Batman that makes him Batman all by itself. Rather, he's a collection of many features that we all love to varying degrees.
      Maybe this particular feature was - understandably - askew for your tastes, but does that negate everything else that was done well? I honestly don't see why it would.

Precisely. That whole "beautiful lie" speech during the opening is essentially saying that his taking up the mantle of the Bat was, rather than being Bruce's salvation from grief, the path to his damnation. That's why the hostages see him as a devil. That's why Alfred says that Bruce was more successful at furthering the case than the Bat. That's why the devils in Lex's painting - a painting that was made specifically for this film although it is reminiscent of some Renaissance art - LOOK LIKE BATS. Bruce's arc is that peering into the abyss for 20 years has nearly destroyed his soul, and he finds redemption at the last moment when Superman counters his "you were never even a man" with the most human plea of all, to save his mother, which in turn reminds him of his own mother, and of what he was fighting (and fighting for) in the first place.

It's not Snyder's fault, Justice League is highly anticipated because WB has to catch Marvel's Avengers. Do you really think that the mail sent from Bruce Wayne to Diana in order to introduce the metahumans fits well in movie ? Moreover Snyder is a visual director, not a writer, Terrio wrote the script, Terrio has only write Argo and Heights, what did you expect from a guy who hasn't a solid luggage ? He may have an oscar for Argo and write cool dialogues, but flaws in the movie may not come from Snyder.

Abin Sur and Sinestro were the 2 thing that worked in that film. I support this. Wan specifically came to WB to make this film, it should work for sure. Shooting it will still be hell.

The film isn´t an origin story, so that part will have to be tricky anyway. The film technically featured sorcerers (Atlantis is a magic based society), so you could go really crazy.
The continued use of dreams, or having flashback triggered by a familiar location / object worked in the past, so i would continues with it. Very comic book-y.
The decision to point out his ethic roots is pretty cool. It frankly makes more sense that some of his comic versions. Some polynesian imagery would be cool too.

It starts shooting in either April or May depending on what site you visit.
They still do casting even after they started filming.

  Yup, they still do. I bet most of these news, are actually old to them. It's like for Jason Momoa, he was on it for 5 years before the announcement. And when the announcement came, they laid it down like "We NOW got him as Aquaman." as if they JUST signed it. Get me?

  Plus a lot of these are likely to be smaller parts (his parents) and don't require the same time commitment as Arthur or Mera. Black Manta may or may not be a tease for a sequel (if Manta is the villain in this one possibly Orm will be halfway decent this time and do a heel turn as Ocean Master for the sequel).
  I did notice that of the two people mentioned for his parents, one is Australian and the other is from NZ; it's possible that they just can drop over for a few days since the filming is happening in Australia as well.

Chris, I think this one's worth an article. I see Zod, Aquaman, and that big one that's probably Apollo (and quite possibly from WW). What else we got there? He doesn't post these unless they're Easter egg hunts.

Jango Fett eh? He's an okay pick but I feel like there's a better choice out there. Off the top, I'd 100% choose Jeff Bridges over Temuera Morrison for Thomas Curry.

  Yes, I know Momoa has Polynesian ethnicity in his background. I understand the obvious connections with skin color and ethnicity. It's valid, but I still feel there are better options where the pick doesn't solely have to be based on if the actor is of Polynesian descent. Momoa doesn't have such strong Polynesian features that he couldn't pass for Bridges' son. Momoa is of mixed descent himself. He's also German, Irish, and Native American.
  And at the end of the day, this is still acting. Snyder simply used parts of Momoa's Polynesian heritage to help ground and influence Aquaman, which was a very cool touch I think. But as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, he is not portraying himself as Polynesian. And as AC, he is human and Atlantean. His mother is Atlantean. Someone with the bearded look and style of Jeff Bridges would be just fine to me to portray Momoa's father. I just picture a bearded seafaring man, tanned by the sun from life by the beach, living in his lighthouse. Yes, Morrison is OK too, but I still feel like there is another actor out there who could fit the role better. He could be Polynesian or not. Doesn't matter. He just needs to appear believable.
