'Wonder Woman' stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine promote the movie to Chinese audiences

What do you do when China is the second biggest movie market in the world? You make them a special video!

A video featuring Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine was released this week, wishing the country a happy Chinese New Year, which is this Saturday, January 28th. Gadot even spoke in Chinese!

China is a huge movie market, so hopefully Wonder Woman is able to be shown there. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice made nearly $100 million in China, while Suicide Squad was banned for its content.

The video was shot a few weeks ago when Gadot and Pine were doing press interviews for Wonder Woman with magazines and other longform outlets. Don't expect those to be released until closer to the June 2nd release date though.

      It honestly depends on how busy I am. The live-action movies will always be my main focus on the site. I'll cover the animated movies and other things if I have time. But the thing is... I don't like to cover something unless I'm willing to commit to it 100%. So since I haven't been covering JLD, I don't want to start now or in the middle.

        No problem, I welcome the feedback! You're right that DCEU stories get more clicks, no matter how small. And also since I haven't been covering JLD since the beginning, I wouldn't want to start now. Those are my main reasons.
        One day I hope I can run Batman News full time and cover *everything*. That would be my dream job.

    I disagree, at least with SS, they nailed it with general audiences in marketing terms, so much so, that the movie got 'touched' a bit to match the tone of marketing campaign and trailers, allegedly, but results speak for themselves, 800 million dollars worldwide is considered a win.
    Im not sure what to make of the trailer being dropped now, its almost a year away, i want it now, but im afraid we get a bombardment of plot again.

    I respectfully recommend investigating this kind of thinking. More and more "fans" are becoming increasingly upset/mean and lashing out; it's beginning to breed unmitigated feelings of entitlement.
    As a fan, I believe that we are here for them rather than the other way around. They are doing what they love to do; and, as fans, we should be supportive of their endeavors regardless of whether or not we like the end-result. If we renege on that support, then we are also turning-in our fan badge.

        No. I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying the constant "need" for a trailer is unnecessary. It releases when it releases. Instead of "when do I get it?! I want it!," the response should always be "oh man, I'm so excited to see a trailer when it comes out!"
        Entitlement is not support. This has nothing to do with anyone's money.

        Prove himself? He's been fucking up regularly if you ask me. If anything, for JL he should just try to make it the best he can and just leave the DCEU. BvS was the time to prove himself, after MoS divisiveness. Before MoS he had 3 straight bombs at the box office, so the man needs to up his game, and then leave it to the hands of more capable people. Work on different projects for a while, like he said he wants to.

        I like MOS and the extended version of BVS, but among his DCEU movies I don't think its really accurate to say that half loved MOS and BVS, and half hated. It's more like 1/5 hated, 1/5 disliked, 2/5 thought they were ok to decent to maybe good and 1/5 loved them. The movies were divisive and lukewarm is the general audience reaction which shows in the box office numbers which signify hits but do not reflect what a generally well received film would pull in, numbers-wise. What they need is a non divisive film to boost them, but despite Snyders talents as a visualist, I don't know if he can actually pull that off.

        Half loves it? Do you know what love means?
        If anything, half tolerates/likes it. He simply happens to adapt properties that have huge fanbases and then there's the fanboy part who will love him for it, as long as he doesn't make complete trainwrecks like Uwe Boll.
        Anyway, to answer your question, I love Man of Steel. I've watched it 6 times and I love that movie. I can criticize it, I don't think it is a very good movie, and I do agree that the response to it was kinda harsh, but not entirely undeserved. So if JL is an actual good movie I'm going to love the film. Doesn't negate the fact that he's not a good storyteller, nor that he is a good director.

    I wouldn't say that. It's still 10 months away. Most Marvel movies release their first trailers only 7-8 months before release, so it's not that big of a deal. It's just that we're used to having a trailer a full year before release with DC films (TDK, TDKR, MoS, BvS, etc). I don't see why JL has to be any different. They're probably waiting for the Super Bowl, although I hope that's not the case, as it's a giant waste of money for a movie yet to be released 10 months from now.

    In psychological terms the comic fandom is a teenager: bipolar disorder, when not complaining or crying is hyperexcited. I imagine that at present what is in WB/DC is fundamentally prudence, but regardless of what they do the teenage-mass will start their tantrum sooner or later.
    JL movie is right now in the editing/torment room, Terrio's script most likely will have undergone numerous changes during filming because, although he himself had claimed that JL would be less dark than BvS (he put the example of "The Empire Strikes Back" vs. "Return of the Jedi") I do not think his script met the new sacred demands of brightness, optimism and FUN (tons of fun) that these types of films (according to experts in the field) require. And intricate piece of work to please an insatiable and fickle creature. May God give them inspiration.

  I'm really curious about it. Not releasing it early January may be partially explained by Trump's inauguration. WB did not want to compete for the buz with the newly elected president. But what's stopping them now? Does it look bad and they know it looks bad? Is it incredibly dark, even tho Hack himself promised to us on multiple occasions that it would be much more hopeful, yet all we've seen so far was exactly as dark as BvS? Or is it because they've learned their mistake with bloated over-marketing last time and now trying to keep it cool?

    "Trump's inauguration"? Come on, man... Plenty of trailers were released the past few weeks (Logan, Kong Skull Island, etc. Even freaking POWER RANGERS of all things), why would this be any different for JL? I can understand the day of the inauguration itself (although that wouldn't be specific to Trump, I would expect the same for any elected president). If they wanted to avoid his "inauguration", they could've just released the trailer a month ago. I don't think that had anything to do with it if I'm honest. And I also don't think the quality of the film has anything to do with it. Let's not forget how GREAT the BvS and SS trailers were, and yet both of those movies were trash. If JL sucks (and I think it will, although I sincerely hope that's not the case), they could still make terrific trailers nonetheless, so clearly that's not the issue.
    I honestly believe your last argument sums it up perfectly. They overexposed BvS and released one bad trailer that turned a lot of people off. I think they are trying to learn from their mistakes, like you said.

    Begins made 1 mil in China, TDK didn´t come out in theaters and Rises did an unimpressive 53 mil. for such an A-level film. BvS´s 95 mil. was seen as an underperformence too (not that i agree) and SS bot banned. IGN´s movie podcast even had a Chinese listener write in to explain why the film left that market so cold. Long story short: Few had basic canon knowledge, as US comics / adaptations weren´t part of their childhood and all were baffled by "Superwoman" (lol) suddenly showing up at the end. His friends ended up viewed the film as another rubbish US blockbuster that made no sense. The end and i can´t even fault them. BvS is as incomprehensible to newcomers as ana adaptation can get.

    I don´t care how much you like DC or not. This isn´t even Marvel thing, only the MCU films made them a brand in China too, but China IS an uncharted market for DC.
    Arguably Hollywood too, as they only made a noticeable dent in that market in the mid 00s. Who also knows how long that trend can last.
    To summarize, DC is kinda fucked if WW and JLA don´t turn out to be easier to grasp.

My comment is just to refute your point of "barely even know who Batman is", and you tell me to read that wiki? I can tell you Chinese don't use it at all, and we use Baidu Wiki. Although Batman movies did not perform well in China, that was long ago. At this point, Marvel helped with the trend of appreciating super hero movies and that's why BvS performed better than Nolan's TDKR even though it is a worse film. The thing is, normal audience in China want "super cool" movies from Hollywood and they don't care who the characters are, so what DC should do is just put on cool content on their official Weibo (they have done it). Btw, the " superwoman" is actually pretty well received in China and IGN is bullshitting, because as I said, she's cool.

        I know about the Lunar New Year, the latest issue of New Superman is about that, but here is the thing with MCU film. You don´ t need to know ANYTHING about the characters, as Thor and Ant-man (not even the original version) were pop culture nobodies before the films. The DC film though throw you right in, especially BvS. Casual comic fans had problems understanding even basic motivations, deservedly so, meaning that Snyder´s problems will only mount in JLA due to the escalating stakes and cast members.
        PS: Marvel absolutely knew what they did with the Stucky bait. I thus can´t even blame the Fujoshi following for jumping on that bandwagon.

    It was the Superman logo alone and Snyder gave no source there. I believe him to a point but recognizing a symbol and having basic knowledge of the DC universe are 2 different things entirely. WW is a magical realism period piece with Greek gods in it, while JLA will be a crowded team film. Yeah, Snyder will loose the GA again within the 1st act.

China loves Gal, I mean they LOVE her. She even won an award at a Chinese award ceremony for being their most popular actress, or something like that. Gal might speak Chinese in the film as well cause a Chinese dialogue coach is credited on IMDb for gal in the film.
