Lex Luthor in 'Justice League' means we're taking a trip to Arkham Asylum

A couple of weeks ago Warner Bros. officially announced that Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor would appear in Justice League. One thing I didn't even think of was that this means we're going to get to see Zack Snyder's take on Arkham Asylum in the DC Films universe! We got a small peek at it in Suicide Squad during a flashback between Dr. Harleen Quinzel and The Joker.

In the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Batman tells Luthor that he's arranged for him to go to Arkham Asylum in Gotham City. It's very likely that when we first see Luthor in Justice League, it'll be in a cell somewhere in Arkham.

To add some evidence to that speculation, several Justice League actors on IMDb have updated their profiles with their roles. "Arkham Guard", "Arkham Guard 2", and "Lex Luthor's Guard" are all listed. And while anyone can edit an IMDb page similarly to Wikipedia, it's more likely that these extras were just adding to their own résumés.

  You could put together a list of the significant DC locations that we've already encountered in the DCEU - from Wayne Manner, to Strykers Island. From Arkham Asylum, to ACE Chemicals (which i presume is where the chemical wedding scene was set...)
  I can think of:
  ACE Chemicals, Arkham Asylum, The Batcave, Belle Reve, Crime Alley, Daily Planet, Kent Farm, LexCorp, Strykers Island, Wayne Manor.
  But im sure ive missed some.

    There was something really striking to me about Crime Alley being Crime Sidewalk in this one. I'd never really thought about what that would be like in such a public setting. I thought it was a really neat choice.

    Given that this is a Justice League movie and we are late in Batman's career, I wouldn't be surprised if Snyder gave us an easter egg or two referring to the big ones (Joker, Two-Face, Riddler, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow).

    It would probably be impossible to pull off but i would love to see a fight adapted from The Batman cartoon where all his villains are locked up by this crazy guard or something and they're all contained in this makeshift prison and they all get released at once so he has to face every single one

      The issue with creating so many villains for cameos is that they may get rushed through development and then those characters are set in stone for the rest of the DCEU.

  Kinda reminds me of when Poision Ivy helped Mr Freeze escape in the film that shouldn't be named - and they had a room full of inmates costumes. Definitely remember The Riddlers being there.

I had the idea of Batman walking past a cell where it looks like another Batman is locked up and as Batman walks by the cell he smirks after seeing the fake Batman's face start to melt and it being Clayface. There's definitely some creativity to be had in Arkham if we actually do get to go there for Justice League or future movies

    The problem with doing UTRH - which would be totally epic - is reconciling it with BvS. Regardless of what you think of the movie, or the tone or whatever, Batman does shoot at people and that causes them to die.
    The crux of UTRH *spoilers btw* is Red Hood not understanding why Batman wouldnt kill Joker, when Joker killed Robin. Batman already broke his no killing rule, so i cant really see that working dramatically - like it does in the Animated Movie for example.
    Also, the general public dont really understnad that relationship enough yet. It would make more sense to set up the Joker/Batman relationship with a flashback or confrontation between batman and Joker centering on Joker killing Robin in one movie (which is important in its own right) and then come back with the UTRH story for a subsequent movie. When the gun-toting batman in BvS is a bit more distant, and the Robin reveal makes more sense, and packs more of a punch.
    WE know all about it, but the general moviegoing joe blogs on the street doesnt.
    .... Ive thought way too much about that. And dont even get me started on why Man of Steel 2 should be an adaptation of Superman vs. The Elite!!!

      You're right there, but, well, we know that Batman at the end of BvS is redeemed, so maybe he can say that he was over the edge but could come back, while RH couldn't. Something like the line "I stared back at darkness".
      And don't forget that he only "killed" for a very short period of time during BvS, so it's not really that stretch

      Yes......... He has not killed, or Branded criminals to be killed, until the the world found out about Superman. He was lost in his hatred for Superman after the destruction, he witnessed in metropolis. Sure Alfred himself Says to Bruce "new rules" when the newspaper article, is about him branding criminals. He just lost his way for a while.
      Which was cool, Bruce Wayne is just human. We all snap sometimes and loose focus of what were doing.

      Yet the comics did it and made an iconic storyline. Jason is now his own sub franchise. The Arkham games went there too. The DCEU film are continuing to build him up, Squad even had Harley thrown into the mix. Even utter haters as RLM too notice of that bit.
      The biggest problem with Jason is that he was ultimately made an anti-hero. Having a boy who died ob Batman´s watch is quite dark but having him come back and then start killing in his name pushes that nail even further. Jason´s Rebirth book is shockingly good but having him be DC´s Punisher or Rorschach is the way to go.

      Making Batman an unhinged manhunter, who kills by proxy, as he just gave up, is what will make a reworking of UtRD even better (the OG comic also has flaws the toon fixed). The inherent ideological divide will be pushed even further first of all. Jason could accuse Bruce of not being harsh enough, as handguns and preemptive killing + murder are still of the table. He could accuse him of being a hypocrite for wanting to redeem himself just before pushing 50. Jason would also see how far his death unhinged Bruce and be conflicted himself. And then would be the question how the Joker still lives. This film writes itself! Making Batman an near unhinged psycho, who was redeemed by Superman´s example, is one of the most inserting things that happened to him in decades. Snyder´s crew didn´t push him hard enough, if anything. DRK Batman was more fucked up.
      It´s the late 80s comics that are flawed though. Bruce´s no-killing-rule was basically gone Post Crisis for a few years, yet having him be ret-conned to it after writers changed post DitF was a bit of a head scratcher. This broken Bat now suddenly upheld himself to moral values that he did not during his Jason days.

      The question is how well that plays out on screen with the mainstream movie going public. I totally get your point - but it would be difficult to pull that off without batman coming across as a hypocrite for killing in one situation, and not killing in another.
      Maybe im over thinking it - but i personally struggle to reconcile the two. Which ultimately comes down to the lazyness of the directors. I feel like batman should have been able to do that chase and take out the tailing vehicles without killing - or at least, without SHOOTING - which is pretty much my only concern with BvS

      Canon Batman used handguns in similar scenes before. No problems here but i was surprised that the film drew focus on him explicitly killing with his vehicles. The Knigthmare gun kills are less focused on for example. It´s clear that Snyder and co wanted viewers to notice, so this plot point shall go on. We barely saw him functioning as a DCEU hero, so that re-development alone will be fun.

      Two years of Superman winning the people over, Two years of Luthor, Hating on Superman, and Two years of how he found out who Sups and bats is. surely they can make a story that fits, with not to major a threat, or something that fits in that time line?? Maybe 1 year after Superman is introduced to the world.
      This is what i love about BvS, It's an older Batman, it has Wonder Woman, you can have so many prequels and sequels that would fit nicely into BvS!!
      Or maybe man of steel 2 could have Brainiac, conduit, Jax Ur or Toyman.

  The film was always color graded in neon (a trademark of the N52 Squad version by Adam Glass version) and editing is something else entirely. The whole wardrobe is further dictated by overall visual style too.

I don't see Deathstroke going out of his way to break anyone out of jail or Arkham without first already having a contract. It's possible Luther contacts him and makes the contract with him and breaking him out of Arkham is part of it.

      You really want to fool yourself, right? Go back in the movie and see how many fucks he gives while killing those people, also running through a truck with passengers making it blow up to me it makes the murder list, even though he's not shooting at them. By what I saw in the movie the only way Two-Face could survive in case this Batman was chasing him, would be by having plenty of bank money in his van, period. And I'll tell you more, he could survive but probably missing a limb or two considering the weapon that Zack Snyder gave Robin to carry around. Be honest with yourself for a second, it might not be what we got (thank God), but if Zack Snyder had the freedom you can't deny his Batman movie would include a lot of violent and gory murdering, from both the "good" and "bad" side.

      I'm well aware he didn't really care for the guys he took out. He was going down that dark path hence Alfred's "turns good men cruel" line. If anything, that dialogue backs up the idea his behavior in Batman v Superman is recent and not normal.
      Yeah, Robin's weapon on display is over the top. But Robin himself hasn't been realized in the movies yet. So I'm not going to jump to any conclusions about Robins methods. Right now, it just looks an extreme design that doesn't quite match the world he's made.
      Zack Snyder has had a lot of freedom to my understanding. Yet he still refused to have Batman shoot KGBeast directly in the head. So forgive me for not believing your last comment. Just looks like more blown out of proportion Snyder hating.

  Yeah, but take a look at Robin's weapon in BvS for example, it looks like a medieval spear, very deadly in my opinion, lol. If the entire rogue gallery still alive, expect them to be missing some limbs IF Zack Snyder decides to follow his initial thoughts (you know that if Zack Snyder had the freedom, his Batman would not only kill, but in a very violent and gory way).

    He is literally identical to Goeff Johns written comics (who produced BvS again and was the official continuity guy?)and at least half of his appearances in the history of the medium. There are way more Mad Scientist versions than businessmen versions. Mr. Punisher´s DC knowledge is also nothing he can be proud of. I proven that time and time again here.

I don't want to see him have hair again, but I don't think you're going to see the "angry, stoic" Luthor in these films; it just doesn't fit the character, and now that I think of it, if we're going to see him in JL then I have a feeling he's going to be Darkseid's (or Steppenwolf's) Renfield.... which doesn't bode well for his sanity.

  Geoff Johns has explicitly said they are building up to the Lex people are more familiar with.
  This version makes sense to me because a) he's been modernized (his characterization is more in line with our super fast-paced culture nowadays), and b) he's only just getting into his junior-villain pants because Superman just showed up; new Supes makes new Lex. I'm betting on Lex putting his big-boy villain pants on when Superman reemerges - that'll really piss him off.

    Its both. Hes is Alexander Luthor Jr, THE Lex Luthor of the DCEU (unless they bring in Brian Cranston as Lex Snr who was supposedly dead but that was just pretend).
    The point is that its not totally bonkers for him to have a different personality to what we otherwise might have known.

    I have to say i really liked this version of Lex Luthor. He had so many different personality's, Jesse played it really well. I think people just couldn't get there heads around Jesse Einsenberg playing Lex Luthor, which i myself was a bit concerned about, but i was surprised when i actually saw him in the role. Thumbs up!
