Ben Affleck has remained extremely coy about his Batman movie, but all signs point to it finally getting in front of the cameras this spring. So which city will be taking place as Gotham this time around?

Sources tell Batman News that Ben Affleck plans to shoot The Batman in Los Angeles. BOF has heard the same. In 2012, Christopher Nolan shot some of The Dark Knight Rises in LA, though it sounds like Affleck will be shooting the bulk of his movie there.

I would expect (and hope) that Affleck shoots the movie on location and not entirely in a studio. There's just something about a city that makes the movie feel that more real. It'd also mean we'd get plenty of set photos to talk about!

We should get an official update about the status of The Batman in the coming months, and I will hopefully be able to share more soon as well.

        Lol, nice reference. I think San Diego is too nice to be Gotham City, but it has its ghetto parts (East Village) and you can take some of the brightness away in post production (San Diego is a very colorful city at night) and you'd have to add more tall buildings. https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

      Go on....what's the reason they don't usually film in San Francisco? And that's not completely true, there are a number of movies set in SF, way more than in San Diego.

    Honestly, this whole scenario feels like they're just screwing with people on purpose. Keeping people guessing and what not. It's an interesting approach to take, but I'd like to just get some concrete answers as to what exactly is going on with the film.

        The article you posted about Affleck not directing was obviously from a while back (you even Tweeted about how you thought it was old) yet you sold the article as "OMG IT'S DOOMED" then today you flip flop back to it's happening. You're the type of site that's intentionally creating confusion in order to get clicks since no other news is coming out.

          I don't think that's a fair assessment. Go back to that story and read it. Chris says he doesn't know when that interview took place (long ago, or recently), so it's speculative. Chris puts up information that he finds interesting enough for this site. Regardless, this site, like others, is ran by clicks, so if he does post some contradictory articles from time to time, oh well. That's the nature of the business. But, I don't think he does it maliciously.

    Let's say a significant portion of the Batman is set in arkham asylum.
    For fun, are there many good "on location" locations around LA and could double for AA?

      If that were to happen, obviously the Asylum would be a set and not on location. Although... was the Asylum seen in Suicide Squad a set or real exteriors? I don't remember now, but I think it was an exterior shot

        If I remember correctly, they said it was completely CGI. It was just a quick shot of the outside of the Asylum.

    According to someone who reports on film and tv show filming in Vancouver, a twitter by Lindsey said that the movie is shooting in Vancouver (Rumor of course)

    What happened to Detroit? I would prefer it there, LA doesn't scream Batman to me. Better yet, they should film it in NYC or Chicago, they're more "Gotham" like.

      Detroit was perfect, but Michigan killed their film subsidy program so that's not happening.

          It was first seen in No Man´s Land. The New Jersey bit has stuck too in multiple continuities, even the DCEU .

      Considering that Tim Burton and Anton Furst built their Gotham from scratch in a London suburb, I'm guessing that they can produce a respectable version at the original Dream Factory lot. Bonus points if they find a way to use Adam West's stately Wayne Manor for something, as that home still exists.

        Yeah, I don't doubt they can, but why go through all that trouble when other cities can provide you the setting without having to change much. Also, LA isn't any cheaper, its equally as expensive as NY. Either way, I don't doubt Affleck's vision of Gotham for a second, just finding LA for the setting of Gotham a bit out of the norm.

    i hope they continue the style of Gotham from BvS and also put the "Goth" in Gotham, it would be nice to see something closer to the comics with all the dark architecture

      Yeah, we saw some of this in the Turkish Airlines ads, we saw there quite the difference between Metropolis and Gotham, but in the actual movie the only place we saw as the "real" Gotham was the port area. In the BTS reel shown from JL we saw a glimpse of a gargoyle, so maybe we can see Gotham in all its (in)glorious state in that movie

        I'm taking the rumors with a grain of salt. I think they're just being coy tbh.
        but this is the same studio that gave Ayer 6 weeks with SS's script, so I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that WB wants this Batman movie out as soon as possible.

    Sorry for yelling and straying off topic. It has to be coming soon… Most movies have at least 3 main trailers anymore and with JL now LESS THAN A YEAR AWAY, we should be seeing the first official trailer very soon…
    And Gotham set in Los Angeles? I can't picture mountains and palm trees and a dry climate for Gotham… Would prefer they stay with NYC, Chicago, Vancouver, or even Toronto… But, we'll see!

    WB has been a successful company for 94 years. Leave them alone, you´ll get your films. Let´s check out Live By Night in the meantime and how about King´s Batman Rebirth. The B-N mods may have soured on i but i sure didn´t.

    I remember when WB tried to speed up a Batman movie - it was called Batman & Robin.

    The DCEU looks like a pro sports team which is the midpoint of "Should we rebuild? Is this something we can build on?"

    At least the actual print comics are amazing :)

    Just Rebirth the DCEU.

      B&R wasn´t fast tracked. Schumacher just got the toyetic memos and adjusted, but Forever is cap too. The last thing i will call Batfleck begins is speed up. He will have starred in 2 films by the time it comes out, with cameos in others. It´s moving quite slow actually. 6 to 7 years will have gone by since Rises too. A good time window.

    He lacks conviction on the quality of what he's doing. In a certain way, this is good: it means he's not shooting a movie that they really know that has a bad screenplay. In other it's really bad because if he's so hesitant to do it, then he is just blocking others and taking away the opportunity to write a good script.
