Geoff Johns teases a new DC TV show and his return to comics in 2017

DC Films co-head and President and CCO of DC Entertainment, Geoff Johns, brought in the new year with a lot of hype late last night!

In a series of tweets, Johns teased that a new DC Comics TV show will be announced this year, plus he announced that he'll be writing comics again. Johns also took time to hype up the DC Extended Universe. Check out all of his comments in the tweets below.

Having issues with loading the website from twitter. The page loads and is then taken over by a gift card website, which is presumably spam. It forces you to X out of the page.

  Random. I exit it out the page it pops up, takes me back to twitter, and then when I click the article again it usually loads fine and doesn't happen until the next time I click on the article or a different one again. Just thought I'd let you know! Thanks

    Thank you! I switched ad providers in the end of November and we've been trying to track down bugs like this. Those kind of ads are unacceptable. I'll let them know.

Probably a long shot but i really want a Batman Earth One Vol 3 just bought and read Vol 1-2 and loved it. As for the show i hope it's The Question or Constantine but it's probably something spun off the current shows.

  WW Earth One is getting 2 (?) sequels, so the line still has promise. Only it and Bats were good but these highlight at least stood out.
  Straczynski´s Flash also got canned or something. Eh.

Well, this year we need to have a director confimation for The Flash and at least Shazam. Flash has been delayed, but I think they still want a 2018 release schedule, so they need to find a good director ASAP.

  They do! Mad Max Fury Road might just be one of the best movies ever made, from a technical standpoint, and it is one of the best action movies ever, and it was made by WB, they gave George Miller complete freedom, 150 million dollars and an R rating... I really can't think of any other big studio that's made a blockbuster this big (and risky), and good in a long while. The Matrix is another example, any Christopher Nolan movie as well, Gravity, etc. WB does terrific blockbusters, but they are currently desperately searching for new franchises, so they are rushing this DCEU in order to get one, and they are making some money, just not as much as they would if they took their time, got talented filmmakers, and let them do their thing.

Do you know when it's happening i skim through quite a few comics i don't think there's even been a mention of it really outside of the DC Universe Rebirth book. Getting behind again think i'm 3 weeks of stuff to read plus i want to read Dark Knight III Master Race

This week´s Titans had a "Manhattan" reference, the Space Vagina Squad was in Superman and whole pages from Watchmen have been referenced near 1 to 1 here and there. It´s a slow burn but the gears are turning.

You're not understanding what is going on. The Rebirth issue he wrote was a one shot to kick off the rebirth era of DC which is what every monthly and bi monthly issue is a part of/continuation of. They're not doing a...once a year... Rebirth series. I'm amazed that this has to be explained to you.

  First of all, I would love for you to not treat me like I am a kid based of assumptions, thank you! Second, it isn't about me reading, it is me more being nervous about everything. I believe strongly Wonderwoman will be a strong film, or assume that it is. It just scares me is all. I love DC! I love the fact that Man of Steel is like one of my favorite CB movie of all time, and Batman V Superman Ultimate Edition being one of the most criminally underrated/Misunderstood film in the Genre, but I would love for General Audience to Love the films :) It disheartens me when people talk shit about the universe :>

    Oh, I am sorry, I have been on the edge! I am so bad for not getting that quote! I don't. I respect when something is overrated, but I think you can have both. I think you can have a movie that could work both for Fans and General Audience. I believe movies should always cater both. Not too normal for General Audience but not too complicated to cater only to fans. That is fair, however it still pains me to say that people right now don't believe in DC the way they believe in Marvel. It makes me sad because I believe Man Of Steel and BvS ultimate Edition are good films too! I wan't DC to just for once let the movie be the movie and get a hit both in Box office and Critical reviews! While making a complicated film! WW please

      Trust me men, I know, I do that. I never read anything til after I watch a movie. It isn't about that. It's about DC getting the credits they deserve. Rather than getting shit on all the time. They might not be bad for you, but it is dislike by many people. I disagree with you about marvel. I love some of the marvel movie as well, I think they have their own flavor. I believe like I said, DC doesn't have to cater to anyone but they are right now. It's just how it is. GA is what makes most of the Box office and in the end movies are still business. I believe they can adapt and cater to both audience and fans. I believe they can. I just want them like I said, to have a hit movie both in Box office and Critics.

      lol, again you are misunderstanding me. I am not saying that directors should just make a film with no originality or whatever their vision are. That is their choice. however; when they do make those movies, you can edit or film or write it where both fans get major satisfaction and general audience also get the same thing! XD

      You cannot use watchmen as an example. That film literally was almost a direct adaptation if not all. That is not an original story like Man of Steel and BvS so far. Sure they are inspired but the comics but those are original written story. Fast and furious are catered for general audience because it is a lot of fun! Also they don't have a history that people are looking at and based on. So there are no "Fans" to cater for because they either built it through their franchise of movies. DC has a long rich history that spans many years. So if they drop a sequence like for instance the "knightmare scene", we as fans know what it is. We have researched if not read that whole idea. We enjoy that scene alot, but I knew a lot of people that just got super confused what was happening in that scene.
      I disagree though, Fast and the Furious because big and loved by GA because they went way over the top and its ridiculous over the top action sequence makes it so fun to watch.

idk arrow sucks since s3 mid-finale, flash is beginning to suck, legends are not great show but they are fun to watch, gotham is good here and there, sometimes it hits the mark but sometimes misses the mark by a mile, i don't watch Lucifer and Supergirl that much. They really need to go to HBO, reduce number of episodes and improve quality, WB owns HBO it's not that hard.

  Lucifer is the prime example of a loose adaptation. I enjoy it, but even I can tell that it doesn't follow the comics.

  I don't like this teams on Arrow, go back to basics, he alone and that's it. Flash has really gone down in quality and acting is getting worse. Legends are not the best show arroud but at least they are fun to watch. Gotham is really hit and miss like i said earlier. Supergirl i watched only 2-3 episodes since it is on CW and i kinda don't feel it. Lucifer i watched it first season i liked it in the beginning but than it got kinda boring. That's my point they are making this show for teens and fangirls, they only want relationships and love interests and that's where they lose me. They should make show on HBO for real fans, who care for source material and who want more serious show.

Why not both and the CW shows made WB a billion in 2016. Flash S03 and Arrow S05 are both great. The 2 other or ok. Still better than nothing and HBO doesn´t work that way.

    i think he is also responsible for the visual side of it too as he has made sure that the marvel movies is in the same color and tone, geoff only handles the writing part so he is more free compare with how they chug out 3 marvel movies an year with their productions only a few months between each other

    he didn't really oversee the cw, that's greg berlanti, he only wrote a part of season one for the flash, the video games was already planned ahead since 2015 so he is free to do his stuff man

      He co-wrote Arkham Origins and he is overseeing all the games, i know that for a fact. Berlanti is the CW showrunner but uncle guggie and Geoff have their posts too. Geoff Johns also runs the Rebirth writer meetings. When does he sleep?

WB coping their playbook will only lead to diminishing returns, to no strong directorial voices and no risky ventures as JLD or Deadshoot.

Mera is one of my all-time favorite comic characters thanks to Johns' run on Aquaman. Can't wait to see her on the big screen, and hopefully Johns will jump on another series ASAP. He is one of the best writers I've ever read.
