on Ben Affleck finally admits that 'The Batman' shoots in the spring

On Monday night, Ben Affleck made it seem like it would be a while before he made his Batman movie, but last night at a Variety event, he confirmed that the movie is on track to start shooting in the spring... just like his co-star Joe Manganiello revealed months ago.

"Affleck indicated that he expected the film will begin shooting in the spring," Variety's report reads.

“We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together,” Affleck said. “We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”

With The Batman shooting in the spring, expect a 2018 release date. And with Aquaman just moved back to October, that July 27, 2018 is free for the taking!

    So he didn't outright say that "The Batman movie will begin shooting in the Spring" but he acknowledged that the spring is what they've been aiming for and that as far as he knows the spring is likely. Can't wait for all the upcoming (Batman) news we're going to get in the coming months!

      Yeah, they didn't quote him as saying spring, but since the Variety article says "Affleck indicated that he expected the film will begin shooting in the spring", I'd imagine their question was "Is Batman on track to start in the spring?".

        True. I really think that it's been planned all along to shoot in the spring. Ben just hasn't wanted to give WB the feeling that they're in control by saying what they want to hear.

        So with a possible July 2018 release date, perhaps it was Man of Steel 2 that pushed back JL2's 2019 date. Would be great, as it would make sense to slow things down a bit and give their two big tent-pole heroes a solo flick in between Justice League films.

      Probably just The Batman and Aquaman in 2018. The Flash was supposed to be out in March 2018, but that's probably not happening anymore since it doesn't have a director.

            Agreed, no need to rush any DCEU movie really, the characters sell themselves, they just need to focus on making a good script.

            if the flash will be super awesome in Justice league and i think he will be the standout, then the movie doesnt need to be rushed and released immediately the year after it. I want them to give time, make a truly great script with the reverse flash as the villain and the rogues. Introduce time travel. You could make his world so interesting. I just hope they realize what kind of character they are dealing with

            Yeah, me too...I know you are worried, and so am I to a certain extent, but in the end at least we have an exciting future to look forward to with the DCEU lineup coming up.

            I hope they are just testing this out at this point. I love all the trailers, the news, the exciting feeling coming over here at this website after a new trailer gets released. Its just the movie itself that need a little bit more improvement. I hope Wonder woman lives up to it like everybody else and everyone still has hope for the dceu, even after Suicide Squad.

            I agree....if Wonder Woman sucks, then we seriously have a major problem. It is going to throw the entire franchise off. No more mistakes, no more divisiveness. WW has to be "that" movie for the DCEU.

            2.2 Billion with first there 5 in the extended universe.

            Man of steel (668 million), BvS (872.7 million),
            Suicide Squad (745.6 million),
            Thats 2.3 billion before the release of our 4th WW??

            No one talked about it, been over for Marvel?
            3 movies in and we still beat marvel by 100 million, when they were at there 5th movie in there EU??

            Well they have to milk it, unlike marvel and Disney-they don't get to throw in so much marvel and Star Wars movies every year because they need their other films to be profitable too so milking it with great opening nights is what they want to do

        ben Affleck has already directly a few crime movies so I think it will continue as a crime thriller wit a detective batman. We saw that in BvS.

      Really? Batman & Nightwing VS Deathstroke? Batman destroys Deathstroke one handedly... I'd love to see the same scene as in Arkham Origins, once Batman crushes Deathstroke's spirit, Deathstroke with his shocked face saying "WHAT ARE YOU?!". THAT'S what I want to see. And of course, I'd love to see Nightwing somewhere! My fav Robin :3

        I think Jigsaw from the Saw franchise was what Riddler would be if he ever really went off the deep end. Geoff Johns used him as the antagonist in Batman Earth One Vol. 2 (that was exhausting to type). And he was sort of used that way in that story. I always thought Riddler was a better villain than people give him credit for being. But if they used Riddler in that vein, that would be cool.

        Something I've noticed about Batman's stories: depending on what villain is used, you can either make it an action thriller, a noir detective story, or something akin to Silence of the Lambs (lookin' at you Zsasz and The Dollmaker).

      TBH I thinks it's Leto who should be giving DC/WB a second chance. They messed up his role so bad in SS. So much effort and compassion was out into the Joker and it barely got any screen time.

      well, we dont know if its a "solo" movie yet. Originally the HQ spinoff was being dubbed the "the harley quinn solo movie" but now we know its the Sirens. Deadshot could end up being a Secret Six kind of thing or DC assassins. Could be really cool honestly

          For both, as a few of my entertainment podcasts too many went over this. The popular Mr. Sundaymovies Youtube kill-count also "counted" some of his action in this very brawl too and manslaughter isn´t murder.
          PS: Only 1 non-Knightmare "kill" looked unsurvivable (the dude who got squashed by the Batmobile jump) and as KGBEast killed himself.

        The warehouse scene was widely regarded one of the best, if not the best (and one of the only worthwhile scenes) in the movie by almost everyone. Stop playing the victim card, for fuck's sake. It's a movie.

    Fantastic news. I'm sure we'll hear more about this from Affleck during the Live by Night interviews. I'm hopeful everything is in line with the script, etc. and I can't blame him for wanting the focus to be on Live by Night.

    The last couple of days as a DCEU fan have been tremendous. Next year will be insane- The Batman coverage in the spring, Wonder Woman in the Summer, and JL in the fall. Can't freaking wait!

    2018 is somewhat realistic but who will take the placeholder JLA 2 date, unless Snyder will again put his pet project The Last Photograph on hold if JLA 1 finally breaks the piggy bank.
    Spacing out event films is actually a good idea. It will make them more "special".

      Something that would be cool is if Bruce Wayne or Batman is walking down the hall of Arkham or Belle Reve and several of the rogues are each in their cells. Batman is passing by a cell and it appears to be another Batman who looks exactly like him. As he stops to observe this he gives a bit of a smirk and walks away and we start to see one half of the inmates face start to "melt". The cell belongs to Clayface

          Yeah that would be ideal, but considering Affleck's age and work load, it is really difficult, but he will get in the best shape he can, at least for it to look believable, and then a oittle bit of makeup and cgi to make it look better xD.

      I doubt we'll see Affleck as huge as he was in BvS. That physique matched the tone of the character in that story, which was inspired by Miller's TDK Batman. I could be wrong though...

        Yeah, it really was very appropriate (and awesome) for that specific story. I wouldn't mind seeing Ben go for a sleeker, leaner, toned Batman more focused on being stealthy and tactical than on crushing bones now that he's seemingly over the peak of that rage.

    So for about 6-7 months Ben is still writing the script and now is finishing it, which is awesome giving that amount of time for the script I hope the movie will be one of the best batman movies. Now the Suicide Squad script being written in 3 months that's just ridiculous

            Fans in the comments isn't a good increment to gauge how the general audience feels about films. Box office numbers doesn't really help your case either -- Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad were two of the biggest movies released this year, doing some-800 million and 740 million respectively.

            And, finally, using Rotten Tomatoes isn't a good increment for the overall populace either -- they're critics. The few, not the many.

            What's there to discuss? Two equally horrible films coming out the same year by the same company. DC has no plan right now. They just announced an all-female-lead film with Harley Quinn and others. They are reacting instead of planning. They have NO clue on wtf they're doing. And that's very evident when you watch BvS and SS. Btw, Suicide Squad is basically 12 music videos mushed together. You can't defend these two horrible films.

            Rotten Tomatoes isn't factual evidence of any kind. It's a website made up of people who post their own opinions after viewing a film. Opinions aren't facts, unless you're a Trump voter.

            I'm not just quoting Rotten Tomatoes. I'm on the interwebz most of my day. I read through forums, comment sections. I look at box office numbers. I'm sure you're right, most moviegoers don't go to RT first then judge the movie. But, fact is, after the release of BvS and SS the general consensus is that they are both BAD films. Do you know anything about filmmaking or storytelling? Or do you just enjoy nonsense garbage and a bunch of music videos mushed together?

            I do not discount BvS box office numbers suffered from the reviews, while it still made a decent profit it should have made much more. I also haven't stated either of the two films you mention are perfect, they aren't. That does not take away I still overall enjoyed them, shit Batman Forever is a stinker and I still enjoy that as some dumb fun. Personal taste in films is and always will be subjective and on a case by case basis, no one has the same taste as the next person. I don't care what opinion or blog sites you frequent, unless you literally poll every single person on the planet personally all you have is biased conjecture. Also a known fact about the internet, negativity(even if it's the minority) always screams louder than positivity.

            Rogue One is now hailed a "better" than VII, yet the RT score is lower. Their text for Batman Returns even reads that it is flat out better than Batman 1989. Yeah, sure.

            I don't believe RT is EVERYTHING. I watched Dr. Strange, walked out extremely bored. 90% for that nonsense? Because of what, the visuals? I'm starting to believe that there is something going on with the Marvel films. They are just average to horrible and yet they get high ratings.

            My Batman definitely isn't this murderous thug, Batflek. His only good scenes are the fighting scenes obviously but besides that, you can care less about him. My ideal Batman was in the TDK trilogy. Just a man that can do many push ups can be a hero and can inspire others. His parents' deaths scarred him for life and that is why he has the one rule. But they completely scrapped that in BvS because...Snyder. Snyder is one of the dumbest directors working today. Go youtube "You think you know Zack Snyder?" And have a good laugh.

            I see what you mean. They went for this older, grittier Batman that has seen a lot of action and has had a change of heart. But killing people like a stone-cold murderer? Come on now, it's beyond ridiculous. The way he kills the men with his Batmobile...just disgusting. How can anyone have any sympathy for the guy? He isn't even a hero. And now he's going back to the way he was, because of "Martha"? Give me a break. Fact is the film is horrible, without a doubt. There is no structure to the story, the editing is incoherent, their motivations are unclear, they were bother easily manipulated by Lex, they don't even talk to each other! But hey, just facts.

            You know, I thought the "Martha!" scene was pretty cheesy. But that was because I'm not personally familiar with PTSD. Then someone around here (can't remember who; sorry, mystery commenter) explained that part of it in more detail, and now I totally get it and the scene is now much more enjoyable (that seems like the wrong word, but I think you get what I mean).

            Yeah. I feel like the general audience isn't inclined to really dig into these movies, so they prefer straightforward presentations. My girlfriend is an example; she's never into watching movies more than once, so she prefers to have everything served in an easily digestible way. Her favorites are Ant-Man and Guardians. DC hasn't really grabbed her at all.

            I do appreciate that you look at this differently a bit and it's quite interesting for Batman's part at least. See, I wouldn't understand the point of view from someone with PTSD, thanks for sharing that and it does shed some new light. But I don't think I will ever be convinced that the movie is good, sorry.             I agree. There's a whole lot crammed into the dialogue. It's definitely not completely transparent with its themes and whatnots. And that's what I love about it; it strayed so far off of the general "superhero movie" formula.

            On murder Batman? i grew up with him going darker as the 80's ended, and in films i never cared that he killed before, why start now?.
            Now, the subject of him killing almost willingly in BvS is inserted in the narrative as a plot point, an important one, he was becoming a monster, reckless, he is still a man, a broken one, and Superman was his awakening, this makes sense for me.
            Too bad it doesn’t for many others.

            You know what isn't the "definite psychology of Batman"? Murdering because he lost "faith"... One of his biggest atributes isn't his intelligence, martial arts skills or detective skills, it's his force of will. It's what keeps him from killing the Joker time and time again, when he sees that if he had killed him before, those bad things wouldn't have happened! Instead, we know have a Batman in the DCEU that does not possess a force of will strong enough for him not to break. And that's terrible. Keep defending Zack Snyder, and these movies all you want, but aknowledge their flaws. I enjoy these movies, but as a movie fan, and a DC fan, I criticize them because I want them to be better. If you just blindly accept any bullcrap they throw at you, you aren't a real fan, you're a sheep. Not trying to insult or anything, but it is the fucking literal definition.

            "Force of will" is a broad virtue that can be expressed powerfully with and without particular facets, and is not absent from BvS's take on Batman.

            As I'm sure you know, Batman has killed in past iterations. Was he not Batman in those stories? I say he was.

            I know that's not what you prefer, but it's still Batman. It's also one part of a much bigger whole of his character in BvS that seems to be popularly ignored.

            If it were me, I'd understand - and also feel grateful that people are so passionate about it and enamored with his performance filling the shoes of his favorite character growing up. Ben feels the same passion for Batman.

        TT is THAT busily, look @ their schedule! Fables was just a random property, with many followup tales too, but Bats will be a priority project for them. They even managed to release the episodes way on time! Wow. Bats, TWD, Marvel games and GOT are there to stay. A Star Wars game wouldn´t surprise me either.
        Monkey Island or Sam and Max thus have no place in such an A-level machine.
