Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara spoke at an investor conference in Scottsdale, Arizona today, and he had some pretty exciting news for fans of DC Comics and Warner Bros.' other big franchises.
“What is becoming more and more important is really these big franchises,” Tsujihara said. But here's the big news from The Wrap, who attended the conference and summarized the highlights:
Tsujihara also underscored Warner Bros.' stepped-up direct-to-consumer efforts, mentioning its recent acquisition of gaming-focused Machinima. He said the studio's been working on that line of business, hinting at a potential dedicated DC Comics product to capitalize on its “rabid” fan base.
“We’ve been working on that quite feverishly over the last 12 months,” Tsujihara added on the topic of direct-to-consumer streaming services.
While many fans had hoped that Warner Bros. would use the Time Warner owned HBO Now for new DC Comics content to compete with Marvel and Netflix, perhaps WB is working on a brand new streaming service dedicated primarily to DC. It certainly sounds that way based on Tsujihara's comments today.
