Batman received a lot of write-in votes during the 2016 election

The 2016 US election was an interesting one, with many Americans divided over who to vote for. Some decided to write-in their votes for someone who wasn't on the ballot sheet, and surprisingly Batman received a lot of votes!

Osceola News-Gazette, a newspaper in Florida, said that 1,261 voters wrote-in their choice, with Batman and Mickey Mouse receiving the bulk of those votes.

“We usually have a wider range of super heroes. This year we only had Batman. In year’s past, Captain America and Iron Man were favorites,” said Amber Smith, the community relations coordinator for the Osceola County Supervisor of Elections office.

Meanwhile, 1,695 write-in votes were cast in Gloucester County, New Jersey. Of them, both Batman and Bruce Wayne were voted for.

Those are just reports from two of the 50 states. I'm sure there were a lot more votes for Batman across the country.

The Florida votes are troubling. The New Jersey votes not so much, as that state was a lock for the Democrats. But Florida is perpetually in electoral chaos, so their writing in fictional characters is particularly troubling.

Kinda funny, and I sympathize with people who couldn't vote for either a warmongering pathological liar, or a narcissistic buffoon... but what does this achieve? People all over the US are complaining about a DEMOCRATICALLY elected president, yet the majority of Americans didn't even vote, and those who did were too busy voting for Batman. And then they complain afterwards their candidate didn't win. Lol.

He won the electoral college, not the popular vote. I understand the purpose of the electoral college -- to combat the tyranny of majority, but that's precisely what democracy is. The founding fathers wanted to have their cake and eat it. Either accept the will of people, no matter what it is, or give up on the idea of democracy.

      The remarkable thing is that no one ever seems to notice that the Constitution does not give the people the right to choose the Presidential electors at all. The Legislature of each state has the right to choose the manner of selection; if they wanted to make it law that the Legislature would elect the electors, or that the governor would appoint them, or that they would be chosen at random out of the phone book, it would be perfectly legal to do so.

  I am not American... I come from a place where voting is mandatory for every citizen above the age of 18. Suffice it to say, I'm not a fan of the electoral college, but that's irrelevant. It simply does not matter that "Hillary won the popular vote". That's the ultimate cop-out argument. Trump won by the rules the US uphold. End of story. I'm sick of all these "progressives" whining and bitching in the streets. It won't change anything. Let's be real, if Hillary had been President elect, and Trump had won the popular vote, NO ONE would be complaining. Besides... If you factor in false Hillary votes (of which there are many) and ignore votes by illegals, some would argue Trump won the popular vote as well. Ultimately, it is completely irrelevant. Trump won... Deal with it.

I think why they are protesting is because of many things, like Trump's vitriol during the campaign, the electoral collage which is NOT DEMOCRATIC, a democracy is when each and everyone's vote is counted equally.
      Also fair enough on your point about Trump won and there's nothing people can do about it though I will add that doesn't mean people shouldn't do anything about it.

      So you're saying you would protest against the electoral collage if Hillary had won the election? If not, sorry... but you're not "protesting because you want true democracy". You're protesting because you didn't like the outcome. You're protesting because you lost.

Also if you do a bit of research you will find the actual meaning and difference between a democracy and a Republic is this. Democracy rules by the people and masses, each and everyone's vote is counting equally.
    A Republic is when you vote a representative to rule for you and you rule by charter or a set of laws which America does.

      By your logic no country on Earth is a democracy. A Republic or a monarchy, etc is a form of government. A democracy is a system in which citizens have limited power (as in, they can vote). Just because there are DEMOCRATICALLY elected representatives, does not mean democracy doesn't exist. Citizens within a democratic government either use this power, or elect representatives to form a governing body, such as the parliament.
      Definition of democracy:
      a : government by the people; especially : rule of the majority
      b : a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections
      By definition, America (as well as every other Western / secular nation) IS a democracy.

      Dude, more people of color in superhero movies is not a bad thing, period. This all began because a commenter seemed to have a problem with John Stewart, a character I grew up watching in the Justice League Unlimited animated series. The Hal Jordan I'm familiar with is Ryan Reynolds' sh!tty take on him in that sh!tty movie. Maybe bringing in a different lantern isn't such a bad idea.

I grew up with John Stewart as my Green Lantern and I'm a little dissapointed he's basically no longer in use. However, I think Hal Jordan would be more appropriate to be introduced first. He has become the person I most identify as the Green Lantern over the years. Though really, It would be incredible to see either one (possibly both).

  If the 2011 GL was good I feel like they could have made a Cinematic Universe for those characters alone. The lore is really rich and has so many events that could have made great films. Doing seperate movies about Hal, John, Sinestro, and the different Corps would be awesome if done right.
  But sadly I think it'll come down to one or the other for Earth GLs since they screwed it up once and are probably scared now.

I hope that's not the case. John might have gotten his popularity from the JL cartoon; Kyle might have his own fanbase from the Bronze Age GL comics, but no matter which lantern is your favorite nobody can deny that Hal Jordan is the definitive Green Lantern. They can introduce Kyle, John, and Guy in the GLC movie, but they better make it clear that Hal is the original GL who founded the League.
