Apparently DC Comics vs. Marvel isn't just something that fanboys argue about on the internet. A new video has surfaced of Justice League and The Flash star Ezra Miller at an event surrounded by fans. It looks like it's in the UK for his new movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. A fan presented Miller with a Marvel comic to sign, and he flat out refused!

"You understand why I can't sign that, right?" Miller asked. "Find me something else, I'll sign it. It's so obvious that I can't sign [that Marvel comic]. I'm sorry."

You can then hear the confused fan say something like "isn't 'Justice League' Marvel as well?", to which Miller replied "No, it's DC. They're competing comic book houses. I'm so sorry, I really can't [sign that]. I'm dead sure."

This is a bad look for Miller in my opinion. What probably happened was a big Harry Potter fan heard that Ezra Miller was in a superhero movie and grabbed a comic book for him to sign. He just happened to grab the wrong one. I feel bad for the fan, you can hear all the disappointment in the video above.

  It's weird that he had to explain it. I love that he doesn't just sign what's put in front of him and I have more respect for that. It's not a fan of his in my opinion. That person was probably going to put it on eBay that night. He offered to sign anything else. He tried. He did his part.

I think Ezra is maybe aware of the most of the time exaggerated narrative that fans have created where it's an extreme competition between the two worlds. He may actually be afraid that there is a legal thing in his DC contract that doesn't allow him to put his signature on Marvel merchandise. Part of me thinks that this dude could be a Marvel fan that is in a way teasing Ezra and trying to get him to sign a Marvel item as some sort of shitty joke on him and DC. He was apologetic but as a fan you have to understand what that looks like to him being asked to sign that. Ezra seems insulted even.

Makes snese, because what happens is fans like this can take to Social Media and say look Ezra doesnt know DC from Marvel, or perfers marvel over DC, OR doesnt recognize a DC book from a marvel book. So Id rather have a story like this than the latter.

    I'm from the UK and I can tell you, there was zero disappointment in that guys voice. Perhaps it's his accent, (from Liverpool or possibly Cheshire), that makes you think that.
    If anything, I thought he sounded amused, as though he knew exactly what he was asking Ezra to sign, hence the reciprocated amusement by Ezra himself

    I don't know. Maybe the guy really is an innocent fan, but I don't buy it. C'mon, he knew Ezra Miller enough to know the guy will be playing a Justice League character, but had no idea JL is DC? Unlikely. And if he is, too bad, but there are too many people out there trying to make celebrities look bad. Sorry, but Ezra was right; he couldn't afford to be naive.

    Nah, I'm going to agree with K. here and I think this is a case of a 'fan' trying to one-up a celebrity. I mean, how much a fan are you if you don't get the difference between a Marvel property and a DC property. All that aside I really wouldn't be surprised if Marvel and DC do take that kind of thing quite seriously. They have brand identities to protect and their actors have to maintain that brand identity when in public. A fan couldn't get their Agents of SHIELD comic signed by a DC actor? Tough shit. Fair play to Ezra for being switched on enough.

It kinda comes down to whose fault it is. It seems like he genuinely believes that DC wouldn't allow him to sign it. But it could be true that DC doesn't want their stars to do that. But it could also just be him thinking thats how they feel. Or him just in general not wanting to do it and coming up with an excuse. He seems nice and friendly about it. Its kinda both ways for me, cause like I said he seemed nice about it but its still kinda a dick thing to do (depending on DCs actual stance, if they do have a policy or something than its a dick thing on their part haha)

        Yeah I'm from UK, Newcastle-upon-Tyne to be exact. The majority of my friends have no exposure to comic-books; they know Justice League and The Avengers and which heroes belong to each compasince I came to America for university and got exposed to them through my roommate, and since I came back to the UK, I've become a comic-book nerd.

This "fans" are autograph seekers, that's why he didnt knew Marvel from DC, they push out of the way little kids that want a picture with their idols to get as many copies signed to sell afterwards, i've seen them in action, they're nasty as paparazzi , they just get anything related to big actors and push their way into carpet premiers, im sure its in Miller's contract to avoid conflict of interest with the studio, or it's just Miller being careful not to get in trouble.

Ok I think he was right to refuse. Its his right. As I recall marvel actors say much harsher things to dc fans even if they didn't realize Spider-Man is a marvel character or whatever. To me I don't think the fan was being malicious or trying to start a war...but a bit of common sense, most casual people are aware batman do not live in the same world as captain America and spiderman so flash lives in bats world means no marvel and what was the marvel comic anyway? Also point for Ezra I don't think dc will care but whatever. Not a big deal.

I actually agree with what Ezra Miller did. He is playing a member of the Justice League, he can't sign something that is part of the competition, especially something that the Flash isn't in. I could see if it was an Amalgam Comic that featured both DC and Marvel characters.
It reminds of when Jason Momoa got fan hate for signing "F*** Marvel" when that was what the fan wanted signed. Yet Robert Downey Jr and other Marvel actors are allowed to say "F*** DC" and people actually cheered when they said it.

I don't know if Ezra really could have had some trouble by doing that in front of cameras, or if he is only overreacting by an unharmful thing like that. But it doesn't seem that much of a scandal to me! He is very apologetic and, I don't know, ironic. He seems very uncomfortable.
I mean, he tried to joke about that with everyone, but then the fan continued to insist with a very polemic tone; in that moment what could only have benn a funny moment became an awkward moment.
But really, it doesen't seem that much of a deal.

  Great point, look how dumb Cumberbatch looked saying he wants to be Dr.Strange in a Batman movie. I do feel bad for the fan though, but he did say he'd sign something else. Tough call, as a DC fan I love it, but Not everyone is a geek like Miller and the readers of this site, and he's holding that poor fan to our standard.

I can see why he wouldn't sign it. Maybe there's some clause in a contract (hope not because that's dumb), or maybe yeah the fan wasn't familiar with comics at all (it WAS an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. comic; most likely tied to the show?), or maybe the "fan" was just trying to be cheeky.
All in all, It was amusing, and I, personally, think he should've jokingly signed it with some snarky comment: "Haha very funny, Hal. Fuck you very much. Sincerely, Barry."

Contractually, believe it or not, he may be prohibited from signing because Marvel is a "competing comic book house" as Ezra describes them. When Ezra says " I really can’t (sign that). I’m dead sure” he is talking being contractually restricted from doing so.
