on Ezra Miller says what 'The Flash' needs from its new director

It's been exactly one week since The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa announced that he was leaving the project due to creative differences with Warner Bros. Cinemablend caught up with star Ezra Miller over the weekend and asked what he thinks The Flash needs in a replacement director.

"I think that the most important quality is the open heart. I think that The Flash has to be a story that is heartfelt," Miller said. "Because I think that's where the lightning really is."

"Heart" was something that Famuyiwa said he wanted to bring to the movie. In his statement last week he said "I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart."

It'll be interesting to see what director Warner Bros. brings in next. He or she will be the third person to have the job in under a year if the hire comes before April 2017.

It´s an emotional comic, primarily about family (even the rogues count), so he is correct. The 3rd director will obviously inherit a lot of moving parts, but so did Mrs. Wonder Woman and her movie is looking good.
Aquaman and Flash could switch dates though, one is further along than the other.

It would also be nice to have a little more time for the newness of the Flash TV show to fade. I think people are very fascinated with this Aquaman right now, so the time is prime.

I think that Rick would have been a good director for this, hopefully they can find someone that can use Ezra to his full talents, I think Warner Bros. should have more faith in the directors they hire, we all saw what happened with BvS theatrical edition v BvS Ultimate edition.

i think bvs was mostly because the mpaa rating that made them remove violence from the movie which are ironically some of the most pivotal scenes and the run time also limited the release, same can't be said for suicide squad

Violence helped the film be better? It was the running time that helped Batman v Superman be better in the ultimate cut.

          MegasXLR

No, not that, the most important parts of the movie are the most violence, the shanking in the prison, the burning corpes, those are essential to flesh out the story more

I still don't think those were particularly graphic enough to warrant an R rating. I think when Superman gets stabbed by Doomsday in the UE it lingers on the shot of him being impaled through the chest. Although I'm not sure if it's longer than the TC (because why would I ever watch that version). If it is a longer shot though, then considering the Avengers almost got an R rating for Loki stabbing Agent Gregg in the chest, it wouldn't surprise me if that coupled with the "What the fuc* do you want?" pushed it into an R.

I personally didn't experience this revolutionary difference that everyone talks about. It was enjoyable padding, but it didn't overhaul the experience for me. It's the same (excellent) movie to me.

    3. MegasXLR Avatar

It was a 7 for me since I get to like superman more and the funeral has more pay off which are the only things I felt lacking in the theatrical cut, besides one more line between batman and Alfred also evelated my experience

      1. MegasXLR Avatar
        MegasXLR

I very much agree man, I leaned on a 7 more because of the technical stuff like how the scenes work with the cinematography, I think while Zack could do well, he doesn't have the best of interest when it comes to the audience

Hey did you watch the Doctor strange?, If I were to say on the scale, the movie is like 5.7 on your scale

          1. MegasXLR Avatar
            MegasXLRreplying to MegasXLR

It was only decent for me, while what you say is cool but I did not feel much, the characters do have chemistry but that chemistry doesn't add much layer to the characters and rather played out for the story. The visual while cool doesn't really matter much to movie in the end and only for cool action scenes. The character development of doctor strange is not transparent enough since his experience as a novice sorcerer does not affect him much despite it should have, the concepts of magic in the beginning was contradicted by the 2nd act and so on. The cast is well casted but they don't bring anything unique to the role to elevate the movie. The contemplating villain turn of mordor pauses for the final act makes it seems His character is adrifted. The humor in the movie doesn't land as much it needed. I do like Tilda Swinton but her character is also bizarre in her decision to make doctor strange a student, Wong is just there for comic relief-6.3/10

i always thought it was kind of funny that the DCEU version of the Flash costume was a bright shiny vibrant red whereas the TV costume is a dull subdued burgundy. You'd think it would be the other way around.

I always liked the sound of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, but maybe they're too busy. Anyway, as much as I love the tone of MoS and BvS, Flash does need to have a more lighthearted feel IMO.

I'm not too worried about this one yet, but I do hope they take their time and get it right.

Odd man out, but I can't stand Joss Whedon's style. Any director who still uses dutch angles needs to go away...except Danny Boyle he can stay.

    2. OGmacrazy Avatar
      OGmacrazy

Whedon has nothing to do with Agents of Shield. His brother does. He even said that for him, Coulson was dead, and that the show was nothing but a dream that Coulson was having before dying... Whedon directing a DC movie would be fucking awesome.

      1. rodo Avatar
        rodo

I imagine that that comment was some kind joke... but regardless of that, the Whedon's are involved in AOS. Joss is like a producer or an executive producer or shit like that, but he's involved too.

        1. OGmacrazy Avatar
          OGmacrazy

Sure, executive producer, but he does nothing there and has nothing to do with the creative process besides having directed the pilot episode. His brother is the one involved with it.

      1. Brennan Klensch Avatar
        Brennan Klensch

While I'd tend to agree and it's more wishful thinking than anything, they do interfere in terms of final cut of the most recent films, but with the executive shakeup, that's reportedly not as much the case anymore - not to mention they don't seem to be obsessed with making them all feel the same, just making sure they're still "fun," now. If that is indeed the case, I can see them realistically springing for a stylized director like Edgar (they aren't afraid of auteurs for sure); heck, Dope was very stylized (reminded me of Spike Lee's, "Do the Right Thing," in many ways) so I don't know that the differences were over "stylized," vs. "uniform." That being said, with Edgar's last experience with a comic book film studio not ending well, perhaps he'd be a bit gun-shy. At this point, if I were them, I'd spring for a "bigger name," like Edgar to boost morale a bit.
